Can you swim at Wekiwa Springs?

The launch is singular too: 1 canoe, kayak and tube launch for the whole park, feeding 15.9 miles of paddling trail. That mileage is a day out, not a warm-up lap, and rented or trailered, everything goes in at the same ramp, so the crush there builds at the same hour the bowl fills.
On land the state counts 13.7 miles of hiking trail and 1,435 feet of boardwalk. The boardwalk is the part that lets you cross soft, wet ground without changing shoes, and the trails climb into dry sand and pine far enough from the spring that the noise drops away.

Roll up after lunch on a hot Saturday and the gate may already be shut when you arrive, with the drive back to Orlando as the only remaining plan. For anyone with a spare morning in Orlando, this is the shortest distance between a hotel pool and water that has never been chlorinated. You get one bowl of 75.6 °F spring water, a sand bottom you can see your feet on, and a park behind it that holds more mileage than most visitors use.
Florida law names this spring outright. The statute defines an Outstanding Florida Spring as every historic first-magnitude spring plus six named individually: De Leon, Peacock, Poe, Rock Springs, Wekiwa and Gemini. Being on that short list means the state extended protection without waiting for the spring to be big enough to qualify on volume.
What the statute does not do is rank it, and neither will we. Classifying a spring by magnitude belongs to the Florida Geological Survey and rests on sustained flow records, not on one afternoon’s gauge reading. A manatee count for Wekiwa is likewise missing here because the state page carrying those figures did not read on 11 September 2026.
