WEKIWA SPRINGS · JULY · THE MONTH IN FULL
July hands Wekiwa Springs the simplest arithmetic of its year. The air above Orlando averages a 92.0°F high, the spring holds near 75.6°F no matter what the calendar says, and Floridians drive out for exactly that difference. You walk a hot sand path, step off the edge, gasp once, and then nobody gets you out of the water before lunch.
The constraint in July is capacity rather than weather. Florida’s own facilities inventory counts 325 parking spaces at Wekiwa Springs State Park, and on a Saturday in July that number decides your day more than any forecast does. The normals below cover the heat, the 11.5 rain days, the light, and how the month sets against June and August.

THE MONTH AT A GLANCE · WEKIWA SPRINGS · JULY
July gives you 92.0°F air, a spring reading 75.6°F and 13 hours 50 minutes of daylight, so the only real question is whether you reach one of 325 parking spaces before the lot fills.
AVERAGE HIGH 92.0°F · SPRING 75.6°F · 7.46 INCHES OF RAIN · 325 PARKING SPACES
Go for: the widest air-to-water gap of the summer, 15.9 miles of paddling trail off a single launch, and evenings that stay light until 8:26 p.m.
Think twice before: arriving at midday on a weekend, when a full lot closes the gate, or booking a long hike for the middle of a 92.0°F afternoon.

Every air figure here comes from NOAA NCEI’s 1991-2020 monthly normals at Orlando International Airport, station USW00012815, a real thermometer roughly 27 miles from the spring rather than a grid-cell reanalysis. July averages a 92.0°F high, a 73.2°F low and 7.46 inches of rain there. The water is a separate story with a separate instrument: the USGS gauge at the spring itself read 75.6°F (24.2°C) on September 11, 2026, and it reads close to that all year.
An average July logs 11.5 days with at least 0.10 inch of rain, which is measurable rain roughly three days in eight, and 2.0 days with an inch or more. Most of that arrives as a build-and-burst afternoon rather than a gray morning, so the practical effect is a lost hour or two after lunch, not a lost day. Twice in a typical month, though, the sky empties hard enough to flood a picnic table and send the parking lot home early.
Nights bottom out around 73.2°F, warmer than most American summer nights ever get, so nothing in the bag needs to be warm. Pack for wet and for shade instead: two quick-dry shirts, water shoes for a limestone bottom, a light rain shell for those 2.0 inch-plus days, a hat, and more drinking water than feels reasonable. Our Florida basics covers the rest of the summer kit.
Light is the month’s quiet gift. On July 15 the sun rises at 6:36 a.m. and sets at 8:26 p.m. local time, about 13 hours 50 minutes of daylight. That buys a swim before the heat arrives and a second one after the storms clear, with a drive home still in daylight.
How warm is Wekiwa Springs in July?
Two numbers frame the month: a 92.0°F average high and a 73.2°F average low, an 18.8°F spread between the hottest and coolest hours of a normal day. That spread is narrow by American summer standards. Central Florida does not cool off at night in July, it just stops climbing.
In practice you dress once. A t-shirt at 7 a.m. is the same t-shirt at 3 p.m., with a swimsuit underneath from the moment you leave the car. The 75.6°F spring is what changes: against a mild morning it reads brisk, and against a 92.0°F afternoon it reads like air conditioning you can swim in. Families tend to discover this around 2 p.m. and refuse to get out.
On freezing nights, we have nothing to report and we are not going to pretend otherwise: the NOAA July normals we read carry no count of nights at or below 32°F for this station, and with an average low of 73.2°F the question belongs to another month entirely. Note too that the 75.6°F water figure is one instantaneous gauge reading, not a monthly average of daily maxima, so treat it as the level the spring sits at rather than a July value.
How busy is Wekiwa Springs in July? Crowds, prices and the demand peak
We found no occupancy series and no monthly room-rate data for the Wekiwa Springs area, so we crown no month expensive and quote no nightly figure. What Florida does publish is capacity, and capacity is the July story: 325 parking spaces. When the lot fills, the gate closes, and a school-holiday Saturday fills a 325-space lot in a way a Tuesday in February never will.
That turns booking into timing. We could not verify how far ahead campsites, pavilions or cabins open for reservation, so we name no number of weeks, but the lever you control is the clock: aim for the first hour the gate is open, go midweek if your trip allows it, and keep a second plan in your pocket for the drive back. Budgeting the rest of the trip is costed separately, and beds around Orlando are covered in where to stay.
On the lodging tax, we could not verify a rate for the county, so no percentage appears. Same discipline on the gate: the Florida state parks site returned a 403 to our automated reads, so we carry no entrance fee and no opening hour for the park, and we would rather say that than copy a price from a park down the road. Fees vary by park and by season, and one found elsewhere does not transfer here.
The one place where spending more genuinely changes a July day is the water. The park holds a single canoe, kayak and tube launch feeding 15.9 miles of paddling trail, and a rented boat moves you from a crowded swim area to a shaded river within twenty minutes. We could not verify the rental price, so bring a card and ask at the concession.
Things to do in Wekiwa Springs in July

July gives you the long evening, and that is the thing no cooler month hands over. With sunset at 8:26 p.m. you can paddle at six, swim at seven and still dry off in daylight, which turns a half day into a full one. The heat also does something useful: at 92.0°F, a spring nobody would call warm becomes the best idea in Orange County.
The state counts what the park holds, and the counts are modest on purpose. There is 1 designated swimming area, 1 canoe, kayak and tube launch, 15.9 miles of paddling trail, 13.7 miles of hiking trail and 1,435 feet of boardwalk. One swim area for a peak-season Saturday explains the queue at the steps better than any crowd index could.
July changes the air around all of it, never the water in it. Those 13.7 miles of trail are a pleasant winter walk and a serious undertaking at 92.0°F with afternoon storms building, so hike them before 10 a.m. and save the boardwalk for the shaded hours. The swim area, meanwhile, performs identically in July and January. Only the line of people waiting to use it moves.
We cannot tell you what is free in July, because we could not read the park’s fee schedule at all. Once you are through the gate, nothing we counted carries a separate charge beyond a rental: the trails, the boardwalk and the swim area come with the visit. Bring your own tube and the water costs nothing more than the drive.
Wekiwa Springs in July: a two-day itinerary
Day one. Be on the road by 6:36 a.m., when the sun comes up, and at the gate as it opens: the spring sits about 27 miles from Orlando International Airport, and the 325 spaces are the thing you are racing. Swim first, while the air is still in the seventies and the steps are empty. Take a boat out mid-morning from the single launch. Eat in shade by noon, walk the 1,435 feet of boardwalk at one, and plan to be out of the water when the afternoon builds. Swim again at five, then let the light run to 8:26 p.m.
Day two. Hike early, taking a short loop off the 13.7-mile network before 10 a.m., then spend the rest of the morning in the spring. If the sky turns, remember that July delivers 2.0 days with an inch or more, and those are the ones that reshape a plan: thunder ends swimming for everybody. Trade the afternoon for indoor Orlando from our things-to-do list, and come back for the evening swim once it clears.
Wekiwa Springs in July vs June and August
| Measure | June | July | August |
|---|---|---|---|
| Average high | 90.8°F | 92.0°F | 91.6°F |
| Average low | 71.6°F | 73.2°F | 73.7°F |
| Precipitation | 8.05 in | 7.46 in | 7.69 in |
| Days with 0.10 in or more | 11.5 | 11.5 | 11.5 |
| Spring water | Unchanged | 75.6°F (single USGS reading) | Unchanged |
All three months come from the same NOAA station and the same 1991-2020 period, and they are closer than the calendar suggests. July is the hottest by day at 92.0°F, 1.2°F above June and 0.4°F above August. August owns the warmest nights at 73.7°F. July is the driest of the three at 7.46 inches, 0.59 under June and 0.23 under August, and all three record rain on 11.5 days. The spring itself does not participate in any of this.
Shift back four weeks and June buys you slightly milder days and 1.6°F cooler nights, paid for with more than half an inch of extra rain. Shift forward and August holds nearly July’s heat while nudging the nights up, with the Atlantic hurricane season deepening behind it. Neither swap changes the swim, which is the argument for simply taking the week you already have.
Is July a good time to visit Wekiwa Springs?
Yes, if you come for water and you set an alarm. Swimmers, paddlers and families with small children get the best version of this place in July, because the thing they came for is immune to the heat. No, if your plan is long midday miles on foot, or if you can only travel on a Saturday and cannot arrive early: 92.0°F on the trail and 325 spaces at the gate are two different ways to lose the day.
If that is a no, the fix is not June or August, which run within 1.2°F of July on the high and within half an inch on the rain. Move the trip out of summer altogether and the trails become the reason to go, while the spring stays exactly where it was. Our Florida calendar makes the case for the dry season, and the Orlando day trip works better then too.
What July alone offers is the gap: 16.4°F between a 92.0°F afternoon and 75.6°F water, the widest of the three summer months, felt in a single step off the bank.
The last word
Set the alarm and the July trip works, because the spring reads 75.6°F at seven in the morning and 75.6°F at three in the afternoon, and the only variable is the lot. One thing worth knowing while the coffee brews: Florida law names this spring by hand. Statute 373.802(5) lists Wekiwa alongside De Leon, Peacock, Poe, Rock Springs and Gemini as an Outstanding Florida Spring. The state protected it without waiting for it to be big enough to qualify on volume.
