On Cable Beach, the evening begins with the casino lights coming on and the first dinner tables filling along the resort’s promenades. A traveler standing in the lobby of the Grand Hyatt is already inside the biggest resort complex in Nassau. The Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is one of its three hotels, a large, family-minded base with its own pools, beach and a water park next door.

What is the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar?
The Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is a large beachfront hotel on Cable Beach in Nassau, on the island of New Providence, and one of the three hotels that make up the Baha Mar resort. It is designed for families, friends or a romantic getaway, which explains why it feels less like a single building than like a small town with its own pools, restaurants and entertainment.
Cable Beach is described as the most popular beachfront destination on New Providence Island, and the Grand Hyatt sits right in the middle of that stretch of coast.
The rooms
The hotel counts 1,800 guest rooms, and 230 of them are suites, many with spacious balconies. That balcony detail matters on a beach vacation, because a morning coffee outdoors is half the pleasure of a stay by the sea.
Inside, rooms come with Hyatt Grand Beds, a flat screen television, a minibar, coffee service and bath amenities. Wi-Fi is complimentary. It is a practical, comfortable list that suits travelers who plan to spend most of the day outside and want a quiet place to come back to.
The Reserve for a more pampered stay
Within the hotel sits The Reserve at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, the top tier of accommodation. It offers upgraded amenities along with dedicated concierge and butler services, so someone else handles the small errands of the day.
This level suits couples marking an occasion, or anyone who likes to have a restaurant table, a spa visit or a cabana arranged by a person rather than an app. For a family on a simpler plan, a standard room and the shared resort pools cover the essentials.
Who it suits
Families are the natural audience, since the resort has a children’s club and a water park among its offerings. Groups of friends find plenty to share, from golf to the casino to long dinners across several restaurants.
Couples are also welcome. The spa, the pool cabanas and the evening bars make it easy to pass a few days without leaving the property. Travelers who want a small, remote island feeling will find a very different kind of place elsewhere in the Bahamas, because this is a resort town in the heart of Nassau’s beach strip.
Meetings and groups
The hotel also serves business and group travel. Its indoor and outdoor convention facility covers 200,000 square feet, which is why weddings, conferences and corporate gatherings often share the lobby with vacationers.
For a leisure traveler this simply means a lively atmosphere on some days, with name badges next to swimsuits. The resort’s size lets both kinds of guest coexist without much overlap.
What is on site?
On site you find pools, a long beach, a water park, golf, tennis, a spa, a casino and dozens of places to eat and drink, most of them shared across the whole Baha Mar resort. Guests of the Grand Hyatt have access to the resort’s amenities, so a day can be built around almost any combination of them.
Pools and beach
The hotel offers six tropical pools, exclusive to resort guests, and each is surrounded by private cabanas that can be reserved online. A cabana gives a family a shaded home base for the day, with a spot for towels, books and the inevitable snacks.
Beyond the pools lies 3,000 feet of beach on Cable Beach. Mornings with the sun low over the sand, palm shadows and the first walkers along the waterline are the quiet side of resort life. Later, the beach turns livelier as the pools fill and the music starts.
Baha Bay water park
Guests of the Grand Hyatt have unlimited access to Baha Bay, a luxe water park set on 15 beachfront acres right next to the resort. For children and teenagers, it is usually the highlight of the stay, a place of slides, rides and lazy-river style relaxation that gives a week in Nassau a playful second act.
Because the access is unlimited for resort guests, there is no need to plan one big day. Many families drop in for an hour after breakfast, return to the pool for lunch and come back to the park later.
Golf, tennis, mini golf and the spa
Golfers have an 18-hole, 72-par Jack Nicklaus Signature course, and for anyone who prefers a gentler game there is the Mini Blue miniature golf course. The Racquet Club adds pickleball, and its tennis courts come with clay, hard tru or grass surfaces, a mix that tennis players rarely find in one place.
For rest after all that activity there is ESPA Baha Mar, a full-service spa described as sumptuous. Spa afternoons are a classic answer to a day when the sun is strong or the sky turns gray. The Sanctuary is another amenity open to guests, and the Kid’s Explorers Club keeps younger travelers busy while parents take a break.
Casino, dining and nights out
The Baha Mar Casino fills 100,000 square feet of gaming space, and it also offers live sports betting by William Hill. Even travelers who never touch a card table tend to pass through, since the casino floor sits at the center of the resort’s evening energy.
Dining is the other great pastime. Guests have access to over 45 restaurants, bars and lounges across Baha Mar, enough to eat somewhere new each night. A Bahamian meal built around fresh conch, cracked or in a salad with lime and peppers, is a good way to taste the islands even inside a resort.
How does it fit within Baha Mar?
The Grand Hyatt is one of three hotels in Baha Mar, a 1,000-acre resort complex on New Providence, alongside SLS Baha Mar and the Rosewood. Together the hotels hold 2,200 rooms, and the complex also includes 284 private residences, so the Grand Hyatt shares its surroundings with neighbors of very different styles.
Three hotels, one resort
What ties the hotels together is the shared list of amenities. A Grand Hyatt guest can use the resort’s golf course, spa, casino, restaurants and children’s club, so the choice of hotel mostly decides where you sleep and which pools are yours.
The Grand Hyatt is the family-oriented option of the group, while SLS and the Rosewood each bring their own brand character. Because the resort is owned by Hong Kong-based Chow Tai Fook Enterprises, it runs as one large property rather than three separate hotels sharing a street.
How the resort came to be
The story starts with Cable Beach itself. On March 30, 2010, a local investor and the government announced an agreement to redevelop the area, with the aim of reviving the beachfront. Groundbreaking followed on February 21, 2011.
The opening, first expected on March 27, 2015, finally came in April 2017, and the project eventually cost around $4 billion. That scale shows in the lobbies, the grounds and the sheer number of restaurants, and it explains why Baha Mar feels like a destination within the city.
Events at Baha Mar this season
Because the resort is so big, its calendar is full of gatherings that change the mood of a stay. A food and arts weekend, a poker series, a tennis event and a New Year’s Eve party all bring different crowds to the same lobbies and lawns.
| Event | Dates |
|---|---|
| The Bahamas Culinary & Arts Festival | October 21 to 25 |
| WSOP Paradise | December 2 to 17, 2026 |
| Baha Mar Cup (tennis) | December 10 to 13 |
The New Year’s Eve 2026 celebration at Baha Mar features a live performance by Ludacris. Early access Weekend Pass pricing has been offered for the culinary festival, which suits travelers who plan a weekend around tastings and performances. Poker players and tennis fans have their own December reasons to choose this part of Nassau.
Good to know before you go
The U.S. State Department rates the Bahamas Level 2, “Exercise increased caution”, and says most crime occurs in Nassau on New Providence and in Freeport on Grand Bahama.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, so the late-October festival falls inside it, and travelers in those months should keep an eye on the forecast. Cable Beach is part of Nassau, where most of the country’s reported crime occurs, a reason to use the same everyday habits you would in any busy city.
The resort’s phone number is (242) 788-1234 for questions about rooms and cabanas. From the United States, the toll-free line is (800) 233-1234.
