The Servicio Meteorologico Nacional (SMN), Mexico’s national weather service, publishes the 1991-2020 normals for station 31097, Merida (Conagua), inside the city. Readings come from a ground thermometer, and they describe Merida itself. Progreso, 20 miles north on the Gulf coast, runs a few degrees cooler with the sea breeze. Every figure here comes from that one station.
SMN counts 12.2 days of measurable rain in an average October, close to two days in five. Its station sheet does not publish the threshold for a rain day, so a counted day can be a ten-minute shower or an afternoon-long downpour. Plan one covered stop per day and the shower stops being a problem.

The Gran Museo del Mundo Maya is open Wednesday to Monday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and closed on Tuesdays. The Cathedral of San Ildefonso dates to 1598 and was the first cathedral built in continental North America. Paseo de Montejo, the signature avenue, is lined with early-20th-century mansions and original sculpture, among them Las Casas Gemelas (the Twin Houses), completed in 1911.
The buildings keep the same dates all year. The air changes with the month: the average high reaches 90.7°F, so the avenue works best in the first hours after a sunrise near 5:52 a.m. The museum’s 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. hours cover the afternoon heat and any rain that arrives with it.
