That is an inland reservoir near Tijuana, about 9 miles from the coast at 120 meters, and the nearest official thermometer. Rosarito’s own beachfront isn’t separately measured and likely runs milder, with more coastal fog. The station’s May: a 76.5°F average high and a 55.6°F average low.

At 62.5°F the Pacific suits wading and short dips. It stands 3.1 degrees above April’s 59.4°F, and June’s 64.5°F adds another 2.0 degrees. Because the figure averages daytime peaks, a swim at first light or after sunset meets water a touch colder.
Our sources carry no wind or swell data for Rosarito in May, so we say nothing about surf or breezes. A surf forecast on the morning you go answers that better than an average could.
How busy is Rosarito in May? Crowds and prices

Rosarito’s main beach runs along the town’s oceanfront and is the destination’s principal draw. The fishing village of Popotla is nearby. Baja Studios sits on the coast here: 20th Century Fox built it in 1997 as Fox Studios Baja for the filming of Titanic. We could not verify visiting hours or admission for any of the three, so we quote none. Confirm before driving out.
The sea barely moves between April and June, from 59.4°F to 62.5°F to 64.5°F. The air changes more, with a 55.6°F night in May and a beachfront that likely carries more coastal fog than the inland station records. Plan the shoreline for the afternoon and leave the first hours of the day flexible.

Rosarito itinerary for May
Day one, on the oceanfront. Sunrise is at 5:48 a.m., but a beachfront likely runs foggier early, so start with a late breakfast in town and a walk along the main beach around mid-morning. Wade in at midday, when the air is near its 76.5°F high and the sea near its 62.5°F average. Drive to Popotla in the afternoon. Be back on the sand before sunset at 7:40 p.m., with the sweater in the bag.
Day two, with a wet-weather switch. Put Baja Studios in the morning once you have confirmed its hours, and the beach after lunch. If rain arrives, which happens on 2.2 days in an average May, give the wet day to the studio or the drive along the Scenic Highway and move the sand time to the other day.

Is May a good time to visit Rosarito?
Yes, for mild-weather beach days, coastal drives and evenings that need a jacket. No, for anyone who wants warm ocean swimming. One more item to read before booking: the U.S. State Department’s Mexico advisory, reissued May 29, 2026, is Level 3 (Reconsider travel) for Baja California, citing terrorism, crime and kidnapping, with high homicide numbers in non-tourist areas of Tijuana. Its only travel restrictions in the state apply to Mexicali Valley.
Swimmers should look at June: a 64.5°F sea, 80.4°F afternoons and 0.5 rain days, with the price question left open because we found no rate data.
May trades April’s 4.3 rain days for 2.2 and keeps afternoons in the mid-70s, short of June’s 80.4°F. It is the middle of the three months on every measure we have.
