Rosarito sits on the Tijuana-Ensenada toll highway, known as the Scenic Highway, the main paved route linking the town to both cities. We did not verify the current toll, so check it before you drive. Planning basics that don’t change from month to month live in Travel 101.

Rosarito weather in July

Mexico’s national weather service (SMN, part of CONAGUA) publishes the 1991-2020 normals behind these numbers: an average high of 84.9°F, an average low of 63.1°F and 0.06 inches of precipitation. They were measured at station 02038, Presa Rodriguez, an inland reservoir near Tijuana about 9 miles from the coast and the nearest official record. Rosarito’s own beachfront has no separate normals and likely runs milder, with more coastal fog.

SMN counts 1.0 days of measurable rain in an average July. Rain shows up once in the whole month, and the month’s total of 0.06 inches is a film on the pavement. SMN’s sheet does not publish its threshold, so we cannot say how small a shower counts.

From afternoon to night the air drops 21.8 degrees, from 84.9°F to 63.1°F. Pack shorts and sunscreen for the day and a sweatshirt for the evening, especially along the oceanfront where coastal fog is likely.

The Open-Meteo Marine API puts the sea surface off Rosarito at 68.4°F in July, averaged over 2015-2024. That figure is a mean of daily maxima, so it runs a shade warmer than a 24-hour average would.

At 68.4°F the water sits 16.5 degrees below the afternoon air. Expect a brisk swim rather than bathwater, best taken in the afternoon once the air has reached its 84.9°F average high.

Our sources carry no wave, swell or wind data for July, so we cannot say how rough the surf runs on a given day. The coast faces the open Pacific, and your hotel’s front desk can tell you what the water looks like that morning.

How busy is Rosarito in July? Crowds and prices

We found no occupancy series and no monthly room-rate data for Rosarito, so we place July in no price ranking and crown no month expensive. The useful test is your own: ask for a quote on the same room in June, July and August and compare.

July suits a beach-first plan. The month brings one measurable rain day, an average high of 84.9°F and a sea at 68.4°F, so a day on the sand rarely needs a backup. The main beach runs along the town’s oceanfront, which keeps the logistics short.

Three names anchor a July visit. The main beach is the destination’s principal draw, and the fishing village of Popotla sits close by. Baja Studios, built in 1997 by 20th Century Fox as Fox Studios Baja for the filming of Titanic, stands on the coast at Rosarito. The production was announced in 1996 and is estimated to have cost around 20 million dollars to build. We could not verify current hours, admission or tour availability at the studios, so we give none.

In July the water and the air pull apart. The 68.4°F sea sits 16.5 degrees under the 84.9°F afternoon high, which makes the sand the warm part of the day and the swim the brisk one. Coastal fog is likely along the shore, so mornings there can run grayer than the inland station’s numbers suggest.

We could not verify entry fees, parking rates or hours at the main beach, Popotla or Baja Studios, so we name nothing as free. Confirm at each place before you plan a budget around it.

Rosarito itinerary for July

The first day belongs to the beach. Breakfast in town while the air is still near the 63.1°F overnight low, then the main beach from mid-morning as the air climbs toward the 84.9°F average high. Take a long lunch through the peak heat and return to the sand as the light softens. Stay for the sunset at 7:57 p.m. and eat dinner after it.

The second day goes to Popotla in the morning and Baja Studios afterward, once you have checked the studios’ hours. If the day turns gray, fog is far likelier than rain, since the month averages 1.0 days of measurable rain. Swap the order and take the beach later in the day if the fog hangs on.

Rosarito in July vs June and August

Highs climb 4.5 degrees from June to July, from 80.4°F to 84.9°F, and another 1.5 degrees into August at 86.4°F. Lows rise 4.3 degrees to July and 1.5 degrees more in August. Rain stays trivial in all three months, at 0.02, 0.06 and 0.04 inches. The sea comes from the Open-Meteo Marine API rather than the station, and it goes from 64.5°F in June to 68.4°F in July and 68.3°F in August.

Moving four weeks later, to August, costs nothing in the water (68.3°F against July’s 68.4°F, a gap of 0.1 degrees) and adds 1.5 degrees of air. Is July a good time to visit Rosarito?

For a beach-first trip, yes: one measurable rain day, 84.9°F afternoons and light until 7:57 p.m. make for long, dry days on the sand. For anyone who wants bathwater, no month in our three-month data delivers it, since the sea tops out at 68.4°F.

Choose August if warmer air is the priority. Highs of 86.4°F sit 1.5 degrees above July’s, the sea holds at 68.3°F and measurable rain drops to 0.4 days. We have no room-rate series, so we cannot say whether August costs more or less.

July’s sea is already level with August’s, 68.4°F against 68.3°F, while the air is 1.5 degrees cooler than in August and the water 3.9 degrees warmer than in June.

The last word

Before you book anything, read the U.S. State Department’s Mexico advisory, reissued May 29, 2026. It lists Baja California at Level 3, reconsider travel, citing terrorism, crime and kidnapping. It notes high homicide numbers in the non-tourist areas of Tijuana and says the only travel restrictions in the state are in the Mexicali Valley, with none elsewhere. After that, pack a sweatshirt and a towel and head for the oceanfront, where a 68.4°F Pacific and a 7:57 p.m. sunset are waiting.
