Every figure here comes from Punta Banda, a weather station about 11 miles south of downtown on the same bay, because Ensenada’s own town-center station publishes no normals. Ensenada weather in October: average highs, lows and rain days

The numbers are the 1991-2020 normals of Mexico’s national weather service, the Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN, part of CONAGUA), from station 02108 at Punta Banda. It is the nearest official thermometer to Ensenada, and it is a station reading, not a model of the grid cell. October averages a high of 72.7°F and a low of 53.6°F, with 0.41 inches of precipitation over the whole month.

SMN counts 0.7 days of measurable rain in an average October. On a simple average, a seven-day stay would catch about a sixth of a rainy day. SMN doesn’t publish its rain threshold, so don’t set that count against a US day-with-0.10-inch figure. In practice you can book the outdoor table, skip the umbrella, and treat a wet morning as a reason to move a tasting to the afternoon.

The gap between afternoon and night runs 19.1°F, from 72.7°F down to 53.6°F. Pack short sleeves for midday and a jacket or sweater for the evening. That low is an average, so some nights dip below it.

That figure is a mean of daily maxima, the warmest reading of each day, so a 24-hour average would come out a shade lower. It also comes from a different source and period than the air normals above.

Yes, you can swim, and a quick dip or some wading is easy to manage. The water sits 7.4°F below the 72.7°F afternoon air, so most people will want a wetsuit for anything longer than a dip (our judgment, not a measured threshold).

We could not read a wind or swell series for the bay in October, so we give none. Check a local surf report the morning you go.

How busy is Ensenada in October? Crowds and prices

We found no occupancy series and no monthly hotel-rate series for Ensenada, so we place October in no price ranking. What we can source is the port. Ship calls rose 24% in 2025 over 2024 and brought more than 1.3 million cruise passengers to the municipality that year, according to the city government’s April 4, 2026 release. Things to do in Ensenada in October

With 0.41 inches of rain and 0.7 wet days on average, October rarely forces a backup plan on a day trip. Full days on the coast and inland fit easily, and 11 hours of daylight leave room for a return drive before dark.

La Bufadora is a marine geyser on the Punta Banda peninsula, about 20 miles southwest of Ensenada, where a blowhole sends seawater up to 30 meters (about 100 feet). Valle de Guadalupe, a wine valley inland, is promoted by the state as the Ruta del Vino. Sierra San Pedro Mártir National Park is a CONANP-protected range that hosts Mexico’s National Astronomical Observatory, and Ensenada is the usual overland gateway.

The Punta Banda station carries the peninsula’s name, so 72.7°F afternoons and 53.6°F nights are the closest numbers we have for the blowhole. Highs slip 1.6°F from September and lows 4.7°F, so bring a layer for the spray and the drive home. Our normals are coastal, so don’t read them as mountain weather for San Pedro Mártir. Ensenada itinerary for October

Day 1, the bay. Sunrise is around 6:49 a.m. and lows average 53.6°F, so start with coffee and a jacket. By midday the 72.7°F average high suits a long waterfront walk in short sleeves. Keep 5:00 to 6:14 p.m. for the bay at sunset, and carry the jacket back out.

Day 2, the peninsula. Drive out to La Bufadora, about 20 miles southwest, and leave early enough to be back before the sun goes down around 6:14 p.m. If the weather turns, which averages only 0.7 days in October, switch to Valle de Guadalupe, where a tasting room gives you a roof. Confirm opening hours first, since we could not verify them.

Ensenada in October vs September and November

From September to November the average high slides from 74.3°F to 72.7°F to 70.3°F, but the lows fall faster: 58.3°F, 53.6°F, 47.3°F, an 11°F drop against 4°F for the highs. SMN’s Punta Banda normals give rain days of 0.3, 0.7 and 1.8, so November has more than double October’s count. The sea, from the marine API’s 2015-2024 mean of daily maxima, reads 67.0°F, 65.3°F and 61.8°F.

Moving four weeks earlier to September gains 1.6°F on highs, 4.7°F on lows and 1.7°F of sea temperature, and rain stays at 0.10 inches. Moving four weeks later to November costs 2.4°F on highs, 6.3°F on lows and 3.5°F of sea, and adds about 1.1 rain days. We found no price data to say November pays you back for that.

Is October a good time to visit Ensenada?

Yes for anyone who wants mild, dry days and will carry a sweater for the evening. Afternoons average 72.7°F, rain averages 0.7 days, and the sea sits at 65.3°F. No for a traveler who came for warm-water swimming: the ocean is brisk and the nights are cool.
