WARM MINERAL SPRINGS · AUGUST · FLORIDA
August hands Warm Mineral Springs its hottest and wettest air of the year: an average afternoon high of 91.5°F, and 9.11 inches of rain over the month. The water underneath pays no attention. A USGS gauge at the spring read 84.6°F on September 11, 2026, and it reads close to that in January. The date you choose moves the air, the drive and the light. It never moves the swim.
So the useful question for August is not whether the spring works. It is what a 91.5°F afternoon and 11.7 wet days do to the hours you spend out of the water, and whether four weeks either side would treat you better. If you are still choosing between months rather than between weeks, our Florida calendar runs the whole year, and July sits next door with its own numbers.

THE MONTH AT A GLANCE · WARM MINERAL SPRINGS · AUGUST
August is the hottest, wettest air of the year over a spring that ignores the calendar: swim in the morning, hand the afternoon to the storms, and come back out for the last two hours of light.
AVG HIGH 91.5°F · 9.11 IN OF RAIN · 11.7 WET DAYS · SPRING GAUGE 84.6°F
Go for: warm-water swimming with no wetsuit logic, evenings with the sun up until 8:07 p.m., and water that holds 84.6°F whatever the forecast does.
Think twice before: booking a week of outdoor plans. An average August logs 11.7 days with measurable rain and 2.2 days with an inch or more.

One caveat before the numbers. Every air figure here comes from NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information, the 1991-2020 monthly normals, measured at station USW00012871 at Sarasota Bradenton Airport, roughly 27 miles from the spring. That is a real thermometer with a thirty-year record behind it rather than a modeled grid cell, and the trade is distance: we found no thirty-year station closer in, so read the figures as regional air, not as a reading taken at the vent.
Warm Mineral Springs weather in August: average highs, lows and rain days
| Measure | August (1991-2020 normals) |
|---|---|
| Average high | 91.5°F |
| Average low | 75.3°F |
| Day-night spread | 16.2°F |
| Precipitation | 9.11 in |
| Days with 0.10 in or more | 11.7 |
| Days with 1 in or more | 2.2 |
| Daylight, August 15 | 13 h 08 min |
| Spring water (USGS gauge, Sep 11, 2026) | 84.6°F (29.2°C) |
NOAA’s 1991-2020 normals put the August average high at 91.5°F, the average low at 75.3°F, and precipitation at 9.11 inches across the month. Those are the hottest afternoons and the deepest rain of the three months around it. All three figures are measured at the Sarasota Bradenton Airport station, which is the closest long-record thermometer we could find to the spring.
In an average August, 11.7 days record at least 0.10 inch of rain: measurable rain roughly three days out of eight. On 2.2 of those days an inch or more falls. That is the Florida wet-season pattern rather than gray drizzle, a bright morning, a build after noon, one loud hour, then a rinsed evening. Rain itself does not spoil a spring swim, since you are already wet. Lightning does, and it travels with those same afternoon cells.
The gap between the 91.5°F afternoon and the 75.3°F dawn is 16.2°F, and the cool end arrives around sunrise, so nothing in the suitcase needs to be warm. Pack for wet instead: two swimsuits so one is always dry, a rain shell rather than an umbrella, water shoes, and a dry shirt sealed in a bag for the drive home. A towel dries slowly in August humidity, so bring a second one.
August 15 gives 13 hours 08 minutes of daylight, sunrise at 6:59 a.m. and sunset at 8:07 p.m. local time. Plan the day in three pieces: two usable hours before eight in the morning, a long midday spent indoors or submerged, and a second window from about six until the light goes. Sunset at 8:07 p.m. also leaves room for dinner before dark.
How hot does Warm Mineral Springs get in August? Highs, lows and what to wear
The month runs between 91.5°F and 75.3°F on average, a spread of 16.2°F. Neither end is extreme and neither end is cool: the low is touched around dawn and holds for an hour or so before the climb starts again. Humidity does the rest of the work, and the number on its own understates the afternoon.
In practice that means a T-shirt at 7 a.m. and the same T-shirt at 3 p.m., one of them dry. Mornings are walkable. Afternoons are for shade, water or air conditioning. The spring at 84.6°F sits 6.9°F below the average afternoon air, so stepping in reads as relief rather than shock, and you can stay in for a long soak without the shivering that cooler springs impose.
Freezing nights are not an August question here. We have no count of nights at or below 32°F from the NOAA monthly set, and with the average low at 75.3°F the arithmetic answers it anyway. If cold nights matter to your planning, that belongs to a winter month, and the same station holds those normals.
How busy is Warm Mineral Springs in August? Crowds, booking and lodging costs
Where August sits in the year’s price cycle is something we can only half answer. We found no occupancy series and no monthly room-rate series for this stretch of the Gulf coast, so we crown no month cheap and no month expensive. What we can put a number on is the calendar behind the pricing: August is the wettest of the three months here at 9.11 inches, and it is also the tail of the summer school break, two forces that usually pull in opposite directions.
That missing data changes the booking advice rather than canceling it. With 11.7 wet days in an average August, the rate worth paying for is a refundable one rather than an early one: the value is in being able to move a swim morning by a day. Two nights is the usual shape, since the spring is a morning and the coast is an afternoon. Our where-to-stay guide covers the regional bases.
We could not verify the county lodging tax rate that applies here, so we give no percentage. Expect a state sales tax and a county tourist development tax to be added on top of the nightly rate you are quoted, and read the property’s own tax line before comparing two prices. Our Florida cost guide handles the rest of the budget.
The one place where paying more changes an August day is distance. A bed close to the spring buys the early arrival: in the water not long after opening, out before the air reaches its 91.5°F ceiling, and back under a roof when the afternoon cells build. A bigger room buys nothing the month will notice. A car is assumed, and our getting-around guide has the rental and toll detail.
Things to do in Warm Mineral Springs in August

What August gives that the neighboring months do not is contrast. Of the three months we hold normals for, August opens the widest gap between the air and the water: 91.5°F above, 84.6°F below, a 6.9°F drop at the step. July’s gap is 6.5°F and September’s is 5.6°F. Small on paper, obvious at noon, when the water is the coolest thing within reach.
The spring itself is the reason for the drive, and its numbers come from a gauge rather than a brochure: 84.6°F at the water, 8 cubic feet per second leaving the vent. That flow is why the water stays clear, being replaced faster than it can cloud. Florida law also defines a protected class called Outstanding Florida Springs, at Statute 373.802(5): every historic first-magnitude spring as determined by the Florida Geological Survey, plus six named by hand in the text. Whether this spring falls inside that list, we could not confirm.
Nothing the month does reaches the water. The air above it is another matter: in August the parking lot, the walk from the car and the hour after the swim all happen at 91.5°F, and shade is worth more than a lounger. When the sky closes in, the coast is the alternative within reach, and Siesta Key is the obvious name. Manatees are a winter story rather than an August one, and our manatee guide explains the season.
On admission we have nothing to give you. The state park site returned a 403 to our automated reads on September 11, 2026, so we publish no entrance fee and no opening hour, and a price copied from another Florida spring would not transfer. What is free in August is the light: 13 hours 08 minutes of it on the 15th, and the sun still up at 8 p.m.
Warm Mineral Springs in August: a two-day itinerary
Day one runs early. Sunrise is 6:59 a.m. in mid-August, so breakfast happens at the dark end of it and you reach the gate whenever it opens, a time we could not verify. Swim from opening until about eleven, while the air climbs toward 91.5°F and the first towers go up. Lunch and the early afternoon belong indoors. Come back out around six and use the last two hours, with sunset at 8:07 p.m.
Day two flips the order: the coast in the morning, the spring in the final two hours of light. If the sky turns, rain does not end a spring swim, only lightning does, and the water holds 84.6°F through a downpour. An electrical afternoon sends you to an indoor hour in Sarasota instead. Our Florida things-to-do guide has the wet-weather options, and 2.2 days in an average August deliver an inch or more.
Warm Mineral Springs in August vs July and September

| Average low | 75.2°F | 75.3°F | 74.1°F |

| Spring water (USGS gauge) | Same year-round | 84.6°F read Sep 11, 2026 | Same year-round |
Across the three months the air barely moves: 91.1°F in July, 91.5°F in August, 90.2°F in September, with lows of 75.2, 75.3 and 74.1. Rain does the separating. August takes 9.11 inches against July’s 7.39 and September’s 6.00, and logs 11.7 days at a tenth of an inch or more against 10.7 and 8.3. The spring ignores all of it and reads the same 84.6°F in each of the three.
Shift four weeks forward and you trade 3.11 inches of rain and 3.4 wet days for 1.3°F less heat, which is the strongest swap available in this part of the calendar. Shift four weeks back into July and the afternoon feels the same while the rain total drops by 1.72 inches. Either way the swim is identical, so the decision is about the hours you spend dry.
Is August a good time to visit Warm Mineral Springs?
For a swimmer, yes. The water is the point, it holds 84.6°F, and August heat makes that temperature read better than it does in a cool month. For anyone whose plan involves long hours outdoors, a rented bike or a full day on foot, no: 91.5°F afternoons and 11.7 wet days leave a short usable morning and not much else.
If that second description fits, September is the month to move to. Same spring, 90.2°F afternoons, 6.00 inches of rain instead of 9.11, and 8.3 wet days instead of 11.7. It is a one-page correction on the calendar, and it costs nothing at the water.
What August alone holds is the widest gap of the summer between the air you walk through and the water you step into: 6.9°F, against 6.5 in July and 5.6 in September.
The last word
Pick the morning, not the week. USGS station 02299260 posts the temperature at the vent in near real time, so you can check the reading from the hotel the night before and know exactly what you are driving to. Then set the alarm for the 6:59 a.m. sunrise, be in the water early, and let the 91.5°F afternoon happen indoors.
