De Leon Springs in July: Weather, Rain Days, Crowds and a Two-Day Plan

De Leon Springs in July means an average high of 91.9°F, nights that settle around 75.0°F and 8.07 inches of rain over the month. That combination shapes every plan: swim early, keep the afternoon loose, and treat the long evening light as a bonus hour outdoors.

July also falls inside Florida’s hurricane season, June 1 to November 30 according to NOAA’s National Hurricane Center (our Florida guide covers the season in full). For a July booking, that argues for flexible dates and a refundable room more than it argues for staying home.

Every figure here is an official NOAA NCEI station normal for 1991-2020, read from station USW00012841, the Orlando Executive gauge. NOAA uses the same gauge for Blue Spring, so treat it as the DeLand-country reading rather than a thermometer at the spring itself. It is a real instrument, not an ERA5 reanalysis grid cell, and it gives July an average high of 91.9°F, an average low of 75.0°F and 8.07 inches of precipitation.

An average July logs 11.9 days with at least 0.10 inch of rain, a bit more than one day in three. On a trip of four or five days, expect one or two wet spells. Florida’s wet season tends to deliver its storms in the afternoon (our best-time guide explains the pattern), so a morning swim plan survives most rain days intact.

From the 91.9°F afternoon to the 75.0°F night, the swing is 16.9°F. Nothing in that range calls for a jacket. Pack light, quick-drying clothes, two swimsuits so one can dry, a compact rain shell for the storms and water shoes for the spring’s edge.

On July 15 the sun rises at 6:35 a.m. and sets at 8:26 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, for 13 hours 51 minutes of daylight. Usable light runs well past dinner, so an outing after the heat breaks is realistic.

How warm is De Leon Springs in July?

At the NOAA gauge, an average July afternoon peaks at 91.9°F and an average night bottoms out at 75.0°F.

In practice, mornings already feel like summer: shorts and a T-shirt at 7 a.m., a hat and reef-safe sunscreen by 10. Save shaded or air-conditioned plans for the hours after lunch, when the air approaches that 91.9°F average.

We have no count of freezing nights for July, and with an average low of 75.0°F, frost has no place in a July packing list.

De Leon Springs crowds in July: how busy it gets and prices

We found no occupancy or hotel-rate series for the area, so we rank no month as cheap or expensive. What the calendar does say: July sits in the school summer break and in Florida’s wet season, a combination our Florida best-time guide lays out month by month.

We could not verify a typical booking lead time for July, so we give no number of weeks. With hurricane season running since June 1, book a refundable rate and read the cancellation terms before you pay. Our Florida safety guide covers storm planning.

We could not verify the local lodging-tax rate, so we give no percentage. Ask for the total with taxes included when you compare rooms.

If you spend extra anywhere in July, spend it on flexibility: a refundable room and a rental car you can rebook without penalty. A storm track in the forecast then costs you a phone call rather than the trip. Our getting-around guide covers rentals and tolls.

July pairs the warmest average afternoon of the summer at the NOAA gauge, 91.9°F, with evening light until 8:26 p.m. That makes it a month for cold-water swimming in the morning and a second outing once the heat eases.

De Leon Springs State Park holds the spring swim area. Blue Spring State Park shares the same NOAA gauge. Check Florida State Parks for July entry fees, opening hours, and water temperature before you drive. Our De Leon Springs in June guide covers the same ground a month earlier.

Spring water holds steady through the year while the air does not. July air at the gauge runs 1.2°F warmer by day than June’s, so the plunge from a 91.9°F afternoon into the spring feels sharper now than at any cooler time of year.

We could not verify any free-admission day at either park in July, so we list none. For more free and paid options across the state, see things to do in Florida.

De Leon Springs in July: a two-day itinerary

Day one. Sunrise comes at 6:35 a.m. Eat early and reach De Leon Springs State Park as the gates open (check the posted time). Swim through the late morning, while the air is still short of its 91.9°F peak. Take lunch and the early afternoon indoors, when a storm is most likely on one of July’s 11.9 wet days. Head back out around 5 p.m. for a second swim or a walk, and stay for the 8:26 p.m. sunset.

Day two. Repeat the early start at Blue Spring State Park. If the forecast shows a soaking day, move the swim to the next morning and spend the afternoon on a drive to St. Augustine, whose old town has plenty of covered stops. For a longer loop, the Florida 7-day itinerary fits these two days in.

De Leon Springs in July vs June and August

NOAA normal June July August
Average high 90.7°F 91.9°F 91.8°F
Average low 73.4°F 75.0°F 75.3°F
Precipitation 8.17 in 8.07 in 7.66 in
Days with 0.10 in or more 11.8 11.9 11.7

From the same NOAA gauge and the same 1991-2020 period, July’s 91.9°F high sits 1.2°F above June’s 90.7°F and 0.1°F above August’s 91.8°F. Nights warm all summer: 73.4°F in June, 75.0°F in July, 75.3°F in August. Rain falls from 8.17 inches in June to 8.07 in July and 7.66 in August, with wet days almost level at 11.8, 11.9 and 11.7.

Moving four weeks earlier gives you nights 1.6°F cooler and slightly milder afternoons, for 0.10 inch more rain. Moving four weeks later gives you 0.41 inch less rain and near-identical heat, but it brings you closer to the hurricane season’s September 10 peak noted in our Florida guide.

Is July a good time to visit De Leon Springs?

Yes, for swimmers and for families tied to the school summer break who will plan mornings outdoors and afternoons indoors. No, for travelers who want long midday hikes, or who cannot book refundable during hurricane season.

If July doesn’t suit you, pick June: its nights run 1.6°F cooler, its afternoons 1.2°F cooler, and it falls earlier in the storm season. For dry air, Florida’s November-to-April season is the other answer, set out in our best-time guide.

July brings the hottest average afternoon of the three summer months, 91.9°F, so a cold spring swim will never feel more welcome.

The last word

Book refundable, then build each day around the first swim of the morning. The rain rarely wrecks a July trip: an average July has only 2.4 days with an inch or more of rain, so most wet days mean a passing afternoon storm. Pack the second swimsuit and set the alarm for 6:35.
