Early in the morning on the Placencia peninsula, the Caribbean is a pale line beyond the palms and the sand is still empty of footprints. A traveler scrolling through villa photos at that hour is usually asking one thing: what exactly does Itz’ana offer? It is a beachfront resort and residences property in Placencia, with beach villas, marina villas and penthouses, and a stay that comes with a few welcome extras.

What is Itz’ana Resort?
Itz’ana Belize Resort and Residences is a beachfront resort in Placencia, in the Stann Creek District, built around villas and penthouses rather than a single hotel block. Its setting is a white-sand beach on the Caribbean Sea, and its places to sleep are grouped into three kinds: Beach Villas, Marina Villas and Penthouses. Each one gives you a different view and a different rhythm to the day.
What sets the stay apart is how much is folded into it. On arrival, guests find a minibar, a cheese board and a bottle of wine waiting. During the stay, two complimentary massages are part of the package, and a fishing session on the lagoon is included as well. For a trip where you want a few treats arranged before you unpack, that is a pleasant start.
Beach Villas
The Beach Villas are beachfront, multi-bedroom villas with kitchens, decks and plunge pools, all looking out over the Caribbean Sea. The kitchen means you can put together a slow breakfast of tropical fruit and coffee without dressing for a dining room, and the deck is where that breakfast naturally ends up.
Multiple bedrooms make these a natural fit for two couples traveling together or a family that wants space of its own. The plunge pool gives you a private place to cool off between beach walks, with the sea always in view beyond the rail.
Marina Villas
The Marina Villas sit just steps from the marina and offer spacious accommodations for families or longer stays. Instead of the open sweep of the sea, the scene here is boats at their moorings, rigging clinking and the quiet traffic of a working waterfront in a small Belizean village.
Extra room is the point of this category. If you are planning to settle in for a while and unpack properly, this is the kind of villa built for it.
Penthouses
The Penthouses include terraces or beach decks with plunge pools and views of the sea and the Mayan jungle. That mix of water on one side and green forest on the other gives them a different feel from the villas at ground level, and the terrace becomes the room you spend the most time in.
Families will find the policy kind. Kids up to 14 years old stay free with breakfast included, which makes the multi-bedroom layouts easier to plan around.
Where is it?
Itz’ana is at Mile 20 Placencia Road in Placencia, in the Stann Creek District of Belize. Placencia itself is a small village, and the resort sits on its stretch of Caribbean coastline, facing a white-sand beach.
The setting is a peninsula, 18 miles long, with Riversdale Village, Maya Beach Village, Seine Bight and Placencia Village strung along it from north to south. Placencia is the southernmost of them and is served by Placencia Airport. The thin strip of land, with the sea on one side and a lagoon on the other, explains why a lagoon fishing session can sit alongside a beach stay.
The village of Placencia
Placencia is a tourist village of about 1600 people at the southern tip of the peninsula. Its center is The Sidewalk, a concrete pedestrian-only path that runs most of the length of the village and ends at the seashore. Businesses line it, so a stroll turns into a browse of small shops, restaurants and local art galleries.
Breakfast and lunch stops include Belgian Cafe on Main Street, Harbour Place, which serves both and offers free WiFi to patrons. For an evening drink, the Barefoot Beach Bar has a happy hour, and a band called Inner Vibrations plays there on Sunday evenings.
| Place | Hours |
|---|---|
| Belgian Cafe, Main Street, Harbour Place | 8AM to 2:30PM |
| Barefoot Beach Bar happy hour | 6 to 7PM |
Reef, sea and seasons nearby
From Placencia, the longest barrier reef in the northern hemisphere lies a 45-minute boat ride off the coast. Laughing Bird Caye, a National Park and World Heritage Site, is even closer. Kayaking, snorkeling, diving, saltwater fly fishing and light tackle fishing are all part of what the area is known for.
Whale shark watching happens around the full moons, with the season described as running from April to July. Another description puts the passing of the sharks at Gladden Spit between March and June, and visitors should arrange their spot upfront. Either way, it ties to the moon calendar, so it is worth planning your dates around it.
A little history and local events
Before European colonization, the Maya lived on the Placencia Peninsula, producing salt and trading it with other coastal settlements. That long link to the sea still shows in a village that lives from fishing and visitors.
The calendar includes the Placencia Lobster Fest, the Placencia Peninsula Arts Festival and Easter Week celebrations, all hosted in Placencia Village. If one of them lines up with your dates, it adds a local layer to a beach stay.
What is on site?
On site, Itz’ana offers a white-sand beach on the Caribbean Sea, a marina, villas with private plunge pools, and a set of included extras. The beach is the main stage, and the villas are arranged to look at it or, in the Marina Villas, at the boats.
Included with your stay
A minibar, a cheese board and a bottle of wine are there when you arrive, which means the first evening can begin on your deck before you have found a restaurant. Two complimentary massages are part of the stay, and a lagoon fishing session is included too.
Kids up to 14 years old stay free with breakfast included. For a family, that detail shapes the whole budget of the trip, and the multi-bedroom villas give the children somewhere to land.
Villas, decks and plunge pools
The villas lean on private outdoor space. Beach Villas combine kitchens, decks and plunge pools overlooking the sea, while Penthouses have terraces or beach decks with plunge pools and views of both the sea and the Mayan jungle. Marina Villas offer spacious accommodations a few steps from the marina.
Plan your days around what is close by: kayaking, snorkeling or diving trips, a reef outing, an evening on The Sidewalk. Then come back to a plunge pool and a deck that belongs only to you.
Good to know before you go
The U.S. State Department rates Belize Level 2, “Exercise increased caution”, because of crime, and says the south side of Belize City has historically had the highest concentration of violent crime.
In Placencia, you can drink the water, which is plumbed in from an artesian well on the mainland. Mosquitos are less common than on the mainland, but bring repellent and sunscreen, and consider eco-friendly versions if you plan to snorkel or dive near the reefs. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, and Hurricane Iris, in 2001, caused major damage in Placencia, so it is worth keeping those months in mind when choosing dates.
