Troy Spring in June: Water Temperature, Rain Days and Parking

An average June afternoon at Troy Spring runs 89.5°F. The spring underneath was reading 71.4°F when the USGS gauge last reported, and it reads close to that every day of the year, cold enough that most people gasp on the first step. Eighteen degrees of separation between air and water is what a June trip buys here, and no cooler month can sell you the same thing.

The bill arrives in rain and in parking. June normals carry 7.00 inches of precipitation across 9.1 days that log at least a tenth of an inch, and the state counts 25 parking spaces at the park. When the lot fills, the gate closes, so a bright Saturday can end before you have parked. Anything that does not move with the calendar, the drive in, the rules, the rest of the region, sits on our Troy Spring page.

For the twelve-month shape of a Florida vacation, our best-time guide does that job. June’s own figures start below.

Every air figure here comes from NOAA NCEI’s 1991-2020 monthly normals for station USW00012833, the airport at Cross City, about 27 miles (44 km) from the spring. That is a working thermometer rather than a modeled grid cell, and the distance is worth knowing: readings taken over an open airfield are not readings taken at the water’s edge. June’s normals give an 89.5°F average high, a 70.6°F average low and 7.00 inches of rain.

9.1 days in an average June record a tenth of an inch or more, close to one day in three, and 2.0 of them record a full inch. Florida’s wet season does this on a schedule rather than in a northern drizzle: the morning usually holds, the sky stacks up after lunch, and one hour of the afternoon gets soaked. Put the water first in the day and treat the afternoon as the part you can afford to lose.

The spread between that 89.5°F afternoon and the 70.6°F before dawn is 18.9 degrees, and none of it is cool enough to need a layer for warmth. What goes in the bag is for wet and for sun: two towels, because the one you swim in will not dry in that humidity, a rain shell rather than an umbrella, water shoes for limestone, sunscreen and a hat for a lot with no guaranteed shade.

On June 15 the sun rises at 6:29 a.m. local time and sets at 8:36 p.m., 14 hours and 7 minutes apart. Light shapes a trip here more than heat does. A swim that starts at 6 p.m. still has more than two and a half hours of daylight behind it, and a car leaving the park at eight does its first stretch in dusk rather than in the dark.

How warm is Troy Spring in June?

June’s averages run from a 70.6°F low to an 89.5°F high, 18.9 degrees apart. The spring sits outside that range entirely: 71.4°F (21.9°C) on the USGS gauge at station 02320250, read on September 11, 2026. That is a single instantaneous reading rather than a month of daily maxima averaged together, and it is the right sort of number for a spring, because a spring has no season. The air above it does.

At seven in the morning the air and the water sit within a degree of each other, and sliding in barely registers. The same 71.4°F at three in the afternoon, with the air at 89.5°F, is a different event altogether. Shorts and a shirt cover the entire day, morning included. The one thing worth keeping in the car is a dry shirt for the drive back, since wet clothes plus a running fan is the closest June gets to cold.

Nights at or below freezing: we could not verify a freeze-day count for station USW00012833, and June does not raise the question in any case. A normal low of 70.6°F means nothing in your bag is for cold air. The only cold at Troy Spring this month is in the water, and it waits at seven in the morning exactly as it waits at four in the afternoon.

How busy is Troy Spring in June? Crowds, prices and the demand peak

We found no occupancy series and no monthly room rates for this corner of north Florida, so we crown no month expensive and quote no nightly figure. What the calendar fixes is the season: June 1 opens Florida’s wet season and the Atlantic hurricane season alike, and our Florida calendar sets out the year. School holidays fall in the same weeks, and that is the plain reason a June Saturday here looks nothing like a June Tuesday.

Booking is not really a room question at Troy Spring, it is a parking question. The state counts 25 spaces and they go in the order cars arrive, so the only lever you hold is where you sleep the night before and how early you can leave it. Reserve the bed as far ahead as your dates allow, close enough to reach the gate in the first hour. We could not verify the park’s opening hour, so confirm it with the park itself the week you travel.

We could not verify a lodging-tax rate for this county, so we give no percentage and would rather you read the figure off your own booking confirmation than off us. What a week in the state costs at three tiers is handled in our Florida trip cost guide, and the beds within reach of the springs belt sit in where to stay.

One budget line genuinely changes June, and it is proximity. A bed that puts you at the gate early converts the whole day, because the constraint is 25 spaces rather than a ticket counter. Rental gear would be the other candidate, and no rental rate at or near the park reached our sources, so we will not invent one. Bring your own boat if you own one: there is exactly one canoe, kayak and tube launch, with 0.4 miles of marked paddling water off it.

June is the month the swim pays for itself. At 89.5°F the air makes the plunge worth the shock, while in the cool months the same 71.4°F is simply cold. June also carries the longest days of the year, 14 hours and 7 minutes of them on the 15th, so a full day of paddling, swimming and walking does not have to start at first light to fit inside the daylight.

Troy Spring State Park is small and thoroughly counted. The state’s 2024 facilities inventory lists 1 designated swimming area, 1 canoe, kayak and tube launch, 0.4 miles of paddling trail, 0.3 miles of hiking trail, 50 feet of boardwalk and those 25 parking spaces. That is the whole inventory. No entrance fee reached our sources, because the park’s own site returns an error to automated reads, so we publish no price.

The water does not shift from month to month, the air around it does, and that gap is the entire seasonal story. May averages 86.7°F and July 90.1°F against June’s 89.5°F, so the swim improves through spring and then levels off. The land side moves the other way: 9.1 wet days in June against 4.7 in May leaves the 0.3-mile path and the 50 feet of boardwalk wet for more of the month, with 2.0 days delivering an inch or more.

Whether anything at the park is free in June we cannot tell you: floridastateparks.org returns a 403 to automated reads, so no fee schedule reached us and no manatee count either. What costs nothing regardless is the evening. Sunset at 8:36 p.m. on June 15 hands you a long, warm hour after most day-trippers have driven off, and the paddling trail costs whatever your own boat cost and not a dollar more.

Troy Spring in June: a two-day itinerary

Day one runs early. Sunrise is at 6:29, so leave the hotel by seven and aim to be parked before the morning claims those 25 spaces. Swim first, while air and water sit within a few degrees and the single swim area is quiet, then eat around eleven. Give the early afternoon to shade or to the car, since June’s storms build after lunch. Return around six for a second swim with two and a half hours of light in hand.

Day two belongs to the water trail: the launch first thing, 0.4 miles of paddling, then the 0.3-mile walk and the 50 feet of boardwalk before the heat peaks near 89.5°F. If the sky turns, and on 2.0 June days an inch or more falls, flip the plan and drive. Our Florida road trip guide has the routes out of the springs belt, and things to do in Florida covers what stays open in rain.

Troy Spring in June vs May and July

May June July
Average high 86.7°F 89.5°F 90.1°F
Average low 62.7°F 70.6°F 72.5°F
Precipitation 2.74 in 7.00 in 7.77 in
Days with 0.10 in or more 4.7 9.1 11.6
Spring water near 71.4°F near 71.4°F near 71.4°F

On heat June sits between its neighbors, and on rain it sits with July. The average high climbs 2.8 degrees from May’s 86.7°F, then adds only 0.6 more to reach July’s 90.1°F. Nights make the bigger jump: 70.6°F in June against 62.7°F in May, nearly eight degrees. Rain does the rest of the sorting, 7.00 inches over 9.1 wet days against May’s 2.74 inches over 4.7. The water reads near 71.4°F in all three columns.

Shift four weeks back and you gain half the wet days and give up almost eight degrees of night warmth, a real trade for anyone camping or swimming at dawn. Our Troy Spring in May runs those numbers in full. Shift four weeks forward and July charges 2.5 extra wet days for 0.6°F more heat, the poorest exchange of the three, with the same water waiting at the bottom of it.

Is June a good time to visit Troy Spring?

Yes for swimmers, paddlers and anyone who can be at the gate early. June opens roughly eighteen degrees between the 89.5°F afternoon and 71.4°F water, and gives 14 hours and 7 minutes of daylight to spend inside that gap. No for anyone who needs a dependable afternoon, and no for a family that cannot leave a hotel before mid-morning, because 25 spaces disappear fast on a clear weekend in school-holiday season.

If that lands on no, take May instead. 2.74 inches of rain over 4.7 wet days against June’s 7.00 inches over 9.1, under an 86.7°F average high, buys afternoons you can plan around and the identical 71.4°F water. The cost shows up at night, 62.7°F rather than 70.6°F, and it matters if you are sleeping outdoors. Our May page has the whole month.

What no other month matches is the pairing: the year’s longest days, 14 hours 07 minutes of them on June 15, laid over water that holds near 71.4°F whatever the calendar says.

The last word

Set the alarm. That is the decision, and 25 cars is the entire capacity of the place, so the gate ends more June trips here than the weather does. One more fact to carry into the weekend: Florida law reserves a protected class it calls Outstanding Florida Springs for every historic first-magnitude spring, as the Florida Geological Survey determines them, plus six more named by hand in statute 373.802(5). We could not verify which side of that line Troy Spring falls on. Ask at the gate, then get in the water before nine.
