SILVER GLEN SPRINGS · NOVEMBER · 1991-2020 NORMALS
November is the month the air finally comes down to meet the water. The normal high at Silver Glen Springs settles at 74.7°F and the normal low at 50.6°F, where October still runs its afternoons at 82.1°F. The spring pours on either way, at a volume that keeps it clear, so the swim never leaves the table. What changes in November is everything around the swim: the walk in, the paddle, the picnic, the drive home.
The month takes things back too. Daylight is down to 10 hours 43 minutes on November 15, the sun is gone by 5:32 p.m., and an average November puts one night at or below freezing. That makes this a two-day trip with a car and an early start, not a lazy beach week. For what the spring is like in any month, our Silver Glen Springs guide covers the year.

THE MONTH AT A GLANCE · SILVER GLEN SPRINGS · NOVEMBER
November gives you the driest air of the three fall months, 74.7°F afternoons over a spring that keeps its own temperature, and about ten and a half hours of light to fit a two-day trip into.

NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information give this stretch of north-central Florida a November average high of 74.7°F, an average low of 50.6°F and 1.79 inches of precipitation. That is a station normal from a real thermometer, not a grid-cell reanalysis: the instrument sits at Gainesville Regional Airport, roughly 48 miles (78 km) from the spring, and the period is 1991-2020. Every figure here describes the air. The water leaving the vent keeps its own temperature through the year, and we found no published reading for it, so we print no water number.
Three days in an average November record at least a tenth of an inch at that gauge. One day in ten, in other words, and twenty-seven that stay dry enough for a towel to dry on a picnic table. A real soaking, a full inch or more, shows up in the record as 0.5 day per November. Two days at the spring will usually miss the wet ones entirely, and a refundable second night is cheap insurance against the one that lands.
The gap between that 50.6°F low and that 74.7°F high is 24.1°F, and most of it closes between nine and one. A bag that works here holds two layers you can shed: a fleece or hoodie for the drive in, a long-sleeve for the shaded bank, a swimsuit already on under the clothes, and a second dry towel for the walk back to the car. Flip-flops alone will make the first hour unpleasant.
On November 15 the sun clears the pines at 6:49 a.m. Eastern and drops at 5:32 p.m., for 10 hours 43 minutes of light. Forest roads get dark fast under canopy, so the useful planning line is to be out of the water by half past four and back on paved road before six. Sunset also lands before most people want dinner, which puts your evening meal in a town, not at the water.
How warm is Silver Glen Springs in November?
For the air: 74.7°F by day, 50.6°F at night, 24.1°F apart. That spread is the single most useful number of the month. A November afternoon at Silver Glen is shirt weather with the sun on your back, and a November dawn is the coldest part of the trip you will actually be awake for. October never asks you to think about this, because its nights bottom out at 60.6°F.
In practice: a jacket for the 7 a.m. drive, sleeves off around eleven, swimming between one and four when the air is closest to its 74.7°F peak. Getting in is rarely the problem at a Florida spring. Getting out is, once the air has stopped doing you any favors, so keep dry clothes and a hooded towel within arm’s reach of the water rather than in the trunk.
Freezing nights are rare: on average, November has 1.0 night at or below 32°F. If you are sleeping in a tent or a van nearby, that is the number to pack against. If you are in a motel with a heater, it is trivia. We could not verify a water temperature for the spring itself, so treat the swim as a known constant and the air as the variable.
How busy is Silver Glen Springs in November? Crowds, prices and the demand peak
November opens Florida’s dry half of the year, and the Atlantic hurricane season closes on November 30, both of which our state calendar lays out. School is in session for most of the month, and the Thanksgiving stretch is the exception rather than the rule. We found no occupancy series and no monthly rate series for this corner of the Ocala National Forest, so we crown no month cheap and no month expensive.
Booking follows the weekend, not the month. Saturday is the night to lock first, and a Tuesday or Wednesday visit is the strongest lever you have on both the lot and the bill. Four to six weeks out is a sane lead time for a November Saturday bed in the towns around the forest (est.); a midweek night rarely needs that. Our where-to-stay guide covers the regional options.
We could not verify the county lodging-tax rate, so we give no percentage here. What we can say is that the tax sits on top of the room rate rather than inside it, as it does across Florida, so the quoted nightly figure is not the figure on your card. Our trip-cost page carries the statewide arithmetic.
The one place where paying more genuinely changes this month is proximity. A bed within half an hour of the forest buys you the first hour of a 10-hour-43-minute day at the water instead of on I-75. Flying into Gainesville Regional, the same airport that houses the thermometer above, shortens that approach considerably against an Orlando arrival, and our flights guide compares the gateways.
Things to do in Silver Glen Springs in November

This is the month you can do the dry things and the wet thing on the same day. At October’s 82.1°F, a midday walk in the forest is a chore you schedule around; at 74.7°F it is simply a walk. The month also runs drier than either neighbor at 1.79 inches, and the hurricane window shuts at the end of it, which takes the storm question off a fall booking.
The vent is the attraction, and it has a number attached. The USGS gauge at the spring, station 02236160, measured 87 cubic feet per second leaving the vent in an instantaneous reading on September 11, 2026. That volume is why the water is clear: it is replaced faster than it can cloud. Florida law, meanwhile, protects a class it calls Outstanding Florida Springs under Statute 373.802(5), covering every historic first-magnitude spring as the Florida Geological Survey determines them plus six named by hand. We did not verify Silver Glen’s place on that list.
November changes the visit without changing the spring. The water does not follow the calendar; the air does. In October you get in to escape the heat, and in November you get in for the swim and step out into a 74.7°F afternoon or a 50.6°F morning. Plan the order accordingly: forest and paddle first, swim in the warmest three hours, and keep the drive home on the dry side of five o’clock.
On money and access we have to be straight: we could not read an entrance fee, an opening hour or a manatee count for Silver Glen Springs. The state park site returned 403 to our automated reads on September 11, 2026, and the wildlife agency’s manatee page renders client-side. Call or check the managing agency the week you drive, and do not build a day around an animal sighting we cannot promise. Our manatee guide has the rules if one does show up.
Silver Glen Springs in November: a two-day itinerary
Day one, built on the light. Sunrise is at 6:49 a.m., so leave your base by seven and be parked by eight while the air is still in the fifties. Walk or paddle first, when 50.6°F mornings make effort comfortable. Eat around noon. Swim from one to four, the block closest to the 74.7°F peak. Change into dry clothes at four thirty, and you are on paved road with light to spare before the 5:32 p.m. sunset.
Day two runs slower: a second swim, a longer lunch, an earlier departure so the drive is not in the dark. If one of the month’s three wet days lands on you, flip the order and use it as your driving day instead. St. Augustine’s old town works entirely under a roof when it needs to, and our guide there lists the indoor hours. Travelers with kids will find the wet-weather fallbacks in Florida with kids.
Silver Glen Springs in November vs October and December
| 1991-2020 normal | October | November | December |
|---|---|---|---|
| Average high | 82.1°F | 74.7°F | 69.3°F |
| Average low | 60.6°F | 50.6°F | 45.2°F |
| Precipitation | 2.68 in | 1.79 in | 2.88 in |
| Days with 0.10 in or more | 4.0 | 3.0 | 4.5 |
November sits 7.4°F below October by day and 5.4°F above December, with nights a full 10.0°F colder than October’s. It is also the driest of the three by a clear margin: 0.89 inch less than October and 1.09 inches less than December, with three wet days against four and four and a half. The spring’s own output is the constant in all three columns, which is why the air numbers decide the trip.
Shift four weeks back and you buy warm nights, 60.6°F instead of 50.6°F, and no frost to plan against, at the cost of 82.1°F afternoons and an extra wet day. Shift four weeks forward and December hands you the coldest exits of the fall, 45.2°F nights and 69.3°F days, plus the wettest of the three months. Our October page makes the warmer case in full.
Is November a good time to visit Silver Glen Springs?
Yes for swimmers who dislike heat, for paddlers, and for anyone pairing the water with a forest walk: 74.7°F and 1.79 inches is as cooperative as Florida fall gets. No for two kinds of traveler. If your picture of the day is lying in the sun for six hours between swims, the afternoon here is pleasant rather than hot. And if you are camping and hate a cold night, that one freezing night in the average record is real.
If that is you, take October. Its 82.1°F days and 60.6°F nights turn the same spring into a heat-escape trip, and you pay for it with 2.68 inches of rain over four wet days plus a hurricane season still officially open. December is the wrong direction: wetter than October and colder than November, at 45.2°F lows.
What November alone offers is the combination: the driest air of the three months over a spring that never changes, with afternoons still warm enough to make the swim a pleasure instead of a dare.
The last word
Book two nights midweek, aim to be parked by eight, and put the swim in the one-to-four block. One statistic to hold onto while you do it: the record shows 0.5 day per November with an inch of rain or more, which works out to one such day every other year and none in between, so a single refundable night covers the whole risk. Before you drive, check the managing agency for the fee and the gate hour, because we could not read either.
