WEKIWA SPRINGS · JUNE · CENTRAL FLORIDA
In June the spring does its best work as air conditioning. The nearest official thermometer averages a 90.8°F high for the month, and the spring pool was last measured at 75.6°F, a gap of more than fifteen degrees you cross in one step off the sand. You swim, you steam on the bank, you swim again.
It is also the month the rain comes back: 8.05 inches in an average June against 4.02 in May, spread over 11.5 days that record at least a tenth of an inch. Add 325 parking spaces and a gate that closes when they fill, and a June weekend turns into a question about what time you set the alarm.

THE MONTH AT A GLANCE · WEKIWA SPRINGS · JUNE
June hands you 75.6°F water under a 90.8°F sky, and charges for it in afternoon storms and a parking lot that shuts at 325 cars.
AVG HIGH 90.8°F · 8.05 INCHES OF RAIN · 11.5 WET DAYS · ARRIVE BEFORE MID-MORNING
Go for: the widest air-to-water contrast of the first half of the year, paddling under canopy on 15.9 miles of water trail, and light that holds until 8:26 p.m.
Think twice before: driving up at noon on a June Saturday. The state counts 325 spaces, and when the lot is full the gate closes until cars leave.

Two numbers run through the whole month: 90.8°F in the air and 75.6°F in the water. For the park outside June, our Wekiwa Springs guide takes the year as a whole, and the Florida calendar sets the wet season in its statewide context.
Wekiwa Springs weather in June: average highs, lows and rain days
| June, 1991-2020 normals | Figure |
|---|---|
| Average high | 90.8°F |
| Average low | 71.6°F |
| Total precipitation | 8.05 in |

| Days with 1.00 in or more | 2.5 |

Every air figure here comes from NOAA’s NCEI 1991-2020 monthly normals, and the thermometer is not at the spring: it stands at Orlando International Airport, station USW00012815, roughly 27 miles away. For June that station averages a 90.8°F high, a 71.6°F low and 8.05 inches of rain. Read it as the regional climate the park sits inside rather than a reading taken under the cypress, and remember that the normals describe the air only. The spring has no season.
Rain reaches the ground on 11.5 June days at a tenth of an inch or more, a little better than one day in three. Drizzle is not the local style. Those 8.05 inches arrive as afternoon columns that darken the western sky, soak the lot in twenty minutes and move east, and a swim already under way barely registers them. What stops a June day is thunder, not water.
Dawn near 71.6°F and mid-afternoon near 90.8°F leave 19.2 degrees of daily range, and most of that climb happens between nine and one. Pack for both ends of it: a dry shirt for the drive home, a towel that genuinely dries, a zip bag for the phone that will be rained on at some point, and shoes you can wear wet all day. Sun protection matters more than a jacket in June, and the only reliable shade is under the trees.
On June 15 the sun rises at 6:26 a.m. and sets at 8:26 p.m., about 14 hours and 1 minute of daylight, with the solstice a week later adding a touch more. Light that long reshapes a visit. A 5 p.m. arrival still leaves three usable hours in the water, the storm has usually passed by then, and the parking lot has loosened as the morning families drive home.
How warm is Wekiwa Springs in June, and can you swim in it?
June runs from an average low of 71.6°F to an average high of 90.8°F, and the water ignores both. The USGS gauge at the spring, station 02234600, read 75.6°F (24.2°C) on September 11, 2026. That is one instantaneous reading rather than a June average, and we could not obtain a monthly series for it. The gauge sits close to that value all year, so in June the pool runs roughly fifteen degrees below the afternoon air above it.
Before nine, with the air near 71.6°F and wet-season humidity already in place, a shirt is comfortable on the boardwalk and the first thirty seconds in the water make you gasp. By two, at 90.8°F, nothing stays dry anyway. Swimsuit on under the shorts before you leave the car, a hat for the open stretches, long trousers only if you are heading into the hiking trail, where mosquitoes get a vote on your afternoon.
Frost is not a June question in Central Florida, and we found no freeze-day count for this station’s June, so we give none. The coldest normal the month carries is that 71.6°F average low, which in practice means a night you can sleep outside in. We could not verify a heat-index normal either, so the normals above stay plain air temperature, and the humidity is something you will have to feel for yourself.
How busy is Wekiwa Springs in June? Crowds, parking and prices
We could not verify an entrance fee, an opening hour or any occupancy series for the park, so we crown no month cheapest and none busiest. What the state does publish is a count: 325 parking spaces. On a hot June Saturday that number, and not a price list, decides whether your day happens. When the lot fills, the gate closes until cars leave.
As far as our sources show, nothing here is a timed ticket you book weeks ahead, so the reservation you are really making is with your alarm clock. Those 325 spaces serve one designated swimming area, one launch and the trail network at once. Weekday mornings in June rarely strain them. Weekend late mornings do, and a car arriving at noon can be turned around at the entrance with the water two hundred yards away.
We could not verify the park’s own fee schedule or any local lodging-tax rate, so no gate price and no percentage appear here. Florida sets state-park entry per park, which means a figure copied from another spring does not transfer to this one. Check the park’s own listing the week you travel, and size the rest of the budget with our Florida cost guide.
The one spend that genuinely changes June is the bed. Sleeping near Apopka instead of across Orlando buys the early arrival that everything else depends on, and our where-to-stay guide sets out the regional trade-offs. Renting a canoe, kayak or tube at the launch is the other lever, though we could not verify those rates. A second car buys nothing at all: one lot, one cap, same gate.
Things to do at Wekiwa Springs in June: swimming, paddling and the hiking trails

In June the contrast does the work. The spring holds near 75.6°F whatever the calendar says, and June stacks the hottest normal air of the first half of the year on top of it, 90.8°F against 88.4°F in May. Evening is the other June-only advantage: with the sun up until 8:26 p.m., a swim that starts at six is still a full swim, and the morning crowd has already gone.
The Florida DEP facilities inventory counts what the park actually holds: one designated swimming area, one launch for canoes, kayaks and tubes, 15.9 miles of paddling trail, 13.7 miles of hiking trail and 1,435 feet of boardwalk. One swimming area for a statewide summer audience explains the parking cap better than any crowd study could. Paddlers spread out across those 15.9 miles within the first half hour; swimmers do not spread anywhere.
Water at 75.6°F does not move across the year. The air moves 2.4 degrees between May and June, and it arrives carrying the humidity of 8.05 inches of rain, so the same trail feels like a different trail. The paddling run stays bearable longer under the canopy. The 13.7 miles of hiking are a morning job in June, finished by eleven or postponed, and the boardwalk is the shaded compromise at noon.
Nothing in our sources prices the boardwalk or the trails separately from park entry, and we could not verify that entry price, so we will not tell you what is free and what is not. One thing does come at no cost: the reason this spring sits on a protected short list. Florida Statute 373.802(5) names Wekiwa outright as an Outstanding Florida Spring, alongside De Leon, Peacock, Poe, Rock Springs and Gemini.
Wekiwa Springs in June: a two-day itinerary
Day one starts at the gate before eight, when the lot has room and the air is still near its 71.6°F low. Swim first, while the swimming area is thin. Take the launch mid-morning and stay under the canopy as the air climbs toward 90.8°F. Eat in the shade at noon, walk the 1,435 feet of boardwalk while the sun is worst, and plan to be near the car by three, when the wet-season build usually shows itself in the west.
Day two belongs to the trail, early: five of the 13.7 miles are plenty once the thermometer passes 88°F. If the afternoon turns into a real soaking, the smart move is to be already wet, because rain changes nothing about 75.6°F water and the paddling run is sheltered. Lightning ends the day regardless of what the rest of the sky is doing, and our Florida briefing covers the rest of the wet-season etiquette.
Wekiwa Springs in June vs May and July
| May | June | July | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Average high | 88.4°F | 90.8°F | 92.0°F |
| Average low | 66.3°F | 71.6°F | 73.2°F |
| Precipitation | 4.02 in | 8.05 in | 7.46 in |
| Days with 0.10 in or more | 5.7 | 11.5 | 11.5 |
| Spring water | About 75.6°F | About 75.6°F | About 75.6°F |
| What that adds up to | Warm days, driest of the three | Hot, wettest of the three | Hottest, nights barely cool |
Against May, June adds 2.4 degrees to the afternoon and 5.3 to the night, and it doubles the rain: 8.05 inches against 4.02, over 11.5 wet days against 5.7. Against July, June is the cooler of the two by 1.2 degrees at the top and 1.6 at the bottom, yet the wetter by 0.59 inch on the same 11.5 rain days. All three months sit above the same water, about 75.6°F, from the same NOAA series and the same USGS gauge.
Shift four weeks back and you gain the driest month of the three plus nights at 66.3°F, and you give up some of the heat that makes cool water feel like a reward. Our May page works that month through in full. Shift four weeks forward and July hands you the same 11.5 rain days with slightly less total water, in exchange for 92.0°F afternoons and an average low of 73.2°F.
Is June a good time to visit Wekiwa Springs?
Yes, if you came for the water. Nothing in the first half of the year puts this much heat above a spring that refuses to warm up, and that is a good trade for an afternoon storm. No, if the plan is built around the 13.7 miles of trail, or if you travel with people who fade at 90.8°F, or if a closed gate on a Saturday would sink the whole day. Families, take a look at our Florida with kids guide first.
If that lands on no, May is the month to take instead: 88.4°F afternoons, nights down at 66.3°F, and 4.02 inches of rain over 5.7 wet days rather than 11.5. The swimming is identical, because the spring does not know what month it is. You simply spend less of the day negotiating with the sky, and the parking cap bites a little later in the morning.
One thing belongs to June alone: daylight until 8:26 p.m. over 75.6°F water, which means the last swim of the day can start after the crowd has already loaded the car.
The last word
Set the alarm, not the forecast. A car parked by eight takes one of the 325 spaces, gets the swimming area while it is still quiet, and has the boardwalk done before the heat settles in. Roll up at one and June makes the decision for you. And the rain reads worse than it behaves: only 2.5 days in an average June deliver an inch or more, so most of those 8.05 inches fall in short, loud afternoons you can sit out with a towel over your shoulders.
