April is the month Jamaica’s calendar changes hands. The high season that opened in mid-December closes in the middle of April, and the two halves of the month behave like separate trips: the first still prices and fills like February, the second starts letting go (est.). Nothing about the weather forces the switch. It is rate seasonality and the American school year doing the work.

The conditions are firmly in your favor. The Atlantic hurricane season does not open until June 1, so every April date sits outside it, and the sea has warmed back to 83°F. A room booked for April 6 sits inside the same high season as one booked for January 20, while the same room three weeks later has crossed into the shoulder, where asking rates ease and minimum-stay rules relax (est.). April weather in Jamaica: temperatures and rain days, coast by coast

1991–2020 normals (ERA5) for the three reference cities. A rain day means the reanalysis records at least 1 mm on the grid cell, not a local gauge and not a washed-out day: Montego Bay’s 17 days share only 90 mm between them, which is a run of short afternoon showers rather than sustained rain. Kingston, in the lee of the Blue Mountains, keeps its dry-season profile through the whole month.

Water back to 83°F. The sea has spent the winter at its low point and is climbing again, which is the difference between a snorkel stop that ends early and one that runs as long as the reef holds your attention. Calm swimming favors the west and south shores when a late front pushes swell onto the north coast, and the two obvious bases divide neatly: see how Montego Bay and Negril compare before you pick a beach town.

Long, even evenings. By April the Kingston sunset has slid to between about 6:21pm and 6:28pm, so a morning drive, an afternoon on the sand and a dinner in daylight all fit into one day without rushing. After the mid-April line the same beaches carry fewer people, and restaurants that wanted a booking in February will seat you (est.). It is a good month to run the 7-day route without reserving every meal in advance.
