Day 7 · Gardens, lazy river or nothing, then home. Ocho Rios sits 1h45 from MBJ: a morning activity fits comfortably before a daylight transfer to the evening flight.
One week in Jamaica from a single base
Repacking allergic? Base all seven nights in Negril and buy the north coast as one long guided day (Dunn’s River excursions run from the west, at the price of dawn departures and van hours), or base in Ocho Rios and day-trip the island’s center.
The single base trades the west-east contrast for zero logistics, and it’s the right call for families with small kids and anyone whose vacation religion is unpacking once. The honest cost: whichever coast you don’t sleep on, you’ll mostly meet through a van window.
What this Jamaica itinerary skips, and why
Port Antonio and the east: the island’s lushest corner sits a half-day’s travel from everything else in this plan, and doing it justice means giving it nights the week doesn’t have. Kingston and the Blue Mountains: the culture-and-coffee trip is real and deserves better than a drive-by; it pairs naturally with a Port Antonio return visit, likely flying into Kingston.
The south coast: Treasure Beach’s charms are recovering on their own timeline post-Melissa, and this week’s geography doesn’t reach them anyway. None of these are omissions to fix with earlier alarms. They’re the sequel, pre-written.
What to book for 7 days in Jamaica
In order of regret prevented: the C5 entry form the week before (ten minutes, official site only), the round-trip transfers and the day-5 driver (booked, not improvised), lodging in high season (the west’s best small places fill months out for winter), and nothing else.
Dunn’s River sells at the gate, boat days typically book from any beach bar a day ahead, and over-scheduling is this island’s only real itinerary mistake. Time the whole thing with the month-by-month verdict, and if the dates land June–November, read the hurricane-season fine print first.
