That count comes from the operator’s sitemap, read on September 17, 2026, and it is the count that shapes a lodging decision, because six gates spread across one property means every day begins with a transfer.

In practice the choice is binary: a bed inside Disney property, or a bed in Orlando, Kissimmee or one of the towns along the approach. Both reach the same six gates. What changes is the number of transfers you make per day and whether a rental car sits in the plan at all.

The water parks belong to the same arithmetic: Typhoon Lagoon lists 13 attractions and 8 dining locations, Blizzard Beach 14 and 13, and both are reached the same way as the four theme parks. On property or off property at Disney World: park access and transport

No single address sits at the door of all six gates. Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom each have their own entrance, and so do the two water parks, so a park day always opens with a transfer, whether the room is inside Disney property or on a highway service road in Kissimmee. An on-property bed shortens that transfer and can hand it to the resort’s own transport. An off-property bed keeps you in your own car and adds the approach road twice a day. Everything else follows from that difference, plus the rate you are quoted for your dates.

Staying on Disney property: which resort hotels to pick

The operator lists 256 hotel pages on its own site, counted from the sitemap on September 17, 2026. A page count is not a building count: the same file mixes resort hotels with villa listings, vacation-club properties and campground pages, and a single property can carry several entries. So 256 marks the size of the catalog you will scroll through when you shop, and it moves whenever Disney republishes the file.

Proximity buys one thing dependably: the round trip back to the room in the middle of the day. Families who take it get a nap, a pool hour and dry clothes before the evening, then re-enter a park they already know their way around. EPCOT is the park that suits that pattern best on paper, listing 107 dining locations against 35 attractions, so a split day there leans toward eating and walking rather than queuing twice for the same rides.

An on-property room does not thin the crowd at the gate or shorten the walk once you are inside. Disney’s Hollywood Studios lists 15 attractions, the shortest of the four lists, and it stays 15 whether your bed is inside the property or at a hotel in Orlando. Park hours, wait times and the current rules for moving between parks on one ticket are not published by the operator as fixed, citable figures, so we do not repeat them as facts.

Staying off property: Orlando, Kissimmee and the drive in

A room in Orlando or Kissimmee turns each park day into two drives and two parking transactions, one in the morning and one at closing. Those two drives cost time and attention more than mileage, because the second one happens in the dark after a day on foot. Theme-park parking is charged daily and the rate is not published as a stable schedule, so leave a parking line in the budget without a figure attached and confirm it at the booth. Off property suits trips that are not only Disney. A week that also takes in Universal Orlando, SeaWorld or a Gulf beach needs a rental car anyway, and a base outside the gates puts a supermarket, a laundry and a kitchen within reach. It also suits groups needing more beds than a hotel room holds, and anyone arriving late on a flight. Weigh it against what a Florida week costs and the Orlando calendar before the dates are locked.

Driving between the Disney World parks

Four theme parks, four separate entrances. Magic Kingdom lists 41 attractions and 60 dining locations, Animal Kingdom 38 and 45, EPCOT 35 and 107, Hollywood Studios 15 and 40, and each of those lists sits behind its own gate and its own parking area. Choosing a different park at breakfast means a different road, a different lot and a different security line from yesterday’s, which is why the park order tends to get decided the night before rather than over coffee.

Moving between two parks mid-day is a full exit followed by a full arrival: out of the first gate, onto transport or back to the car, then the second entrance from scratch. Add the water parks and it becomes a third transfer on a day that already had two. We cannot tell you what any of it takes in minutes, because the operator publishes no transfer times, and a number invented here would be a guess dressed as data.

A stay without a car leans entirely on the resort’s own transport between hotels and gates. Routes, vehicles and frequencies are set by Disney and revised without notice, and none of it appears as a fixed published timetable we could quote, so confirm what serves your specific hotel before you cancel the rental. The fallback is a rideshare at both ends of the day, and traveling with small children adds car seats to that calculation.
