Walt Disney World with Kids: Which Park for Which Age

Walt Disney World holds four theme parks and two water parks, and a family arriving with a four-year-old and a twelve-year-old has to divide them somehow. Read on September 17, 2026, the resort’s own sitemap lists 41 attractions at Magic Kingdom, 38 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, 35 at EPCOT and 15 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Typhoon Lagoon lists 13, Blizzard Beach 14.

A sitemap tells you how many pages a park has, and nothing about how many people walk through it: no attendance figure is in our sources, so no park gets called busier than another. The counts do settle the shape of a day. A park with 41 listings asks for a full one, a park with 15 rarely fills the same span, and the Florida theme park overview sets the Orlando cluster in order.

Sort the six parks by the type of ride before you sort them by day: Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom carry the longest lists for small children, Hollywood Studios the shortest at 15, and the two water parks are half days.

Go for: a first Disney trip with children of different ages, where splitting the parks by ride type matters more than the order of the days.

Think twice before: booking six park days in a row with a toddler, or blocking out a full day for a water park that lists 13 attractions.

Most families reach the gates inside a longer Florida trip. The resort lists 256 hotel pages of its own, and a room inside the property is what makes a mid-day return to a pool realistic, which the where to stay in Florida guide weighs against cheaper beds further out. Dates count too: a stroller day in July behaves nothing like one in February, and the Orlando calendar goes month by month. Families combining Disney with a second resort will want Universal Orlando alongside.

Which Disney park suits which age

Sort by the type of ride first. Magic Kingdom’s 41 listings lean on slow dark rides, boats, a train and a carousel, the vocabulary a three-year-old already understands. Animal Kingdom’s 38 include walking trails and animal viewing, where a child sets the pace and nothing lurches. Hollywood Studios runs the other way: 15 attractions weighted toward thrill rides and motion simulators around Star Wars and Toy Story. EPCOT’s 35 sit in between, with the World Showcase pavilions carrying an afternoon for anyone old enough to be curious about other countries.

Magic Kingdom with young children: all 41 attractions

With 41 attractions arranged around one central hub, Magic Kingdom sends you back through the middle again and again, and a stroller does every one of those crossings with you. Work one wing at a time rather than chasing the ride list in order, and plan for a child who walks in at nine and is riding by mid-afternoon. The park lists 60 dining locations, more than every Disney park but EPCOT, so a table with a roof over it is rarely far from wherever the day comes apart.

Young children spend mornings well and late afternoons badly, and a plan that ignores that will fail no matter how good the ride list is. Disney does not post an opening time we can print with any confidence, so the night-before check in its app is the schedule. Fireworks are the other trap: they land well after a lot of bedtimes, and the walk back to a bus stop or a parking lot happens with a child who has nothing left to give.

When the day goes sideways, the useful move is a seat indoors. A theater show, the railroad, a boat ride: anything that lasts several minutes and demands nothing of a tired four-year-old buys the adults a reset without leaving the park. Failing that, go back to the room. Among the 256 hotel pages the resort lists, plenty sit close enough that a two-hour pool break costs less time than the same two hours spent negotiating in a queue.

EPCOT and Hollywood Studios with older children

Hollywood Studios lists 15 attractions, the shortest count of the four theme parks and barely a third of Magic Kingdom’s 41. Pair it with something rather than stretching it: a morning there and an afternoon back at the pool, or a park day that finishes early enough to eat elsewhere. Its 40 dining locations are also the shortest list of the four, which matters around one o’clock when three teenagers announce at the same moment that they are starving.

EPCOT lists 35 attractions and 107 dining locations, far and away the longest food list of the six. For a fourteen-year-old that ratio is the argument: the World Showcase pavilions are walking, eating and looking rather than queueing, and they hold up for kids who have run out of tolerance for rides. Older children also tend to last through an EPCOT evening better than a Magic Kingdom one, which makes it a sensible park to place late in the week rather than first.

Disney water parks with kids: Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach

Typhoon Lagoon lists 13 attractions, Blizzard Beach 14. Set against 41 and 38 at the theme parks a few minutes away, those are half-day lists, and treating one as a full day is how a family ends up sunburned and restless by three in the afternoon. Take the morning or take the afternoon, commit to one, and give the other half of the day to shade, a nap or a meal that nobody has to queue for.

Put that half day on day four. After two or three theme-park days, the children who sprinted on Monday are negotiating by Thursday, and a water park needs no map and no queue plan from the adults. Nothing gets crossed off, which is the point of it in a week built entirely around crossing things off.

Check the operator before driving over: nothing in our sources covers opening dates, seasonal closures, lockers or towels, and we would not assume either water park is running on a given date. Food is thinner here as well. Typhoon Lagoon lists 8 dining locations and Blizzard Beach 13, against 40 to 107 across the four theme parks, so a family of five should decide about lunch before they are wet and hungry.

Disney World ticket prices and ride height requirements

We have not printed a single ticket price, park-hopper rule, operating hour, wait time or height requirement. Disney publishes none of them as a stable, citable schedule, and that is the whole reason for the silence: a figure copied in September is a figure that misleads a family booking for March. The choice was made deliberately, and it costs this guide a few of the questions families arrive with.

Those numbers live on the operator’s own site and in its app, attraction by attraction, and that version is the one that counts on the morning a family taps through the gate. Look them up when you book, then again the week you travel. disneyworld.disney.go.com is the only source we would trust for a height requirement with a nervous seven-year-old standing next to the sign.

What the resort does publish in a form worth counting is its sitemap: a page per park, a page per attraction, a page per restaurant and 256 pages for its hotels. Read on September 17, 2026, that structure produced every count used above, from 41 down to 8. It is a slow-moving inventory rather than a schedule, which is exactly why it can be quoted with a date attached.

No sitemap can say how crowded a park gets, which of the 41 listings suits a three-year-old, or whether a slide is running on a Tuesday in February. A count of pages is not a count of visitors, and no attendance statistic is in our sources. The counts also move as pages are added and removed, so read 41 as the figure on one September morning rather than a permanent fact about Magic Kingdom.
