On the same Tuesday in November, Luxor sits at a 90°F afternoon with a 0% chance of rain, and Reykjavík runs between 33°F and 46°F under sixteen hours of darkness that stretch to nineteen by the end of the month. That is the month at its full width: one place where the heat has finally dropped to something workable, another where the light is the thing being rationed. Every other trip below sits somewhere along that line.
Four dates are fixed before anyone books. Día de Muertos runs October 31 to November 2. Thanksgiving lands on Thursday November 26, with Black Friday on the 27th and the weekend closing on Sunday the 29th. Kyoto’s color is forecast to peak around November 27. And the Atlantic hurricane season stays open until November 30. Already behind us: the storm peak of September 10 and the bulk of the activity, mid-August to mid-October. October’s numbers set up two of November’s best trips: Luxor comes off a 97°F month, and Kyoto’s maples spend four weeks walking toward a forecast peak on the 27th.

The Japan Meteorological Corporation forecast puts Kyoto’s peak around November 27, 2026, with a viewing window running roughly November 20 to December 5. The window is a fortnight and change. The visual peak inside it, every maple red and nothing on the ground yet, is tighter: ten to fourteen days, and it slides with the autumn.
That tightness carries a price. Rooms for the peak sell out four to six months in advance, and rates run about three times normal, a market observation rather than a published statistic. Crowds are dodgeable at the margins even so: weekday mornings are markedly thinner than weekends, and temples before 9 a.m. thinner again.

Luxor averages a 90°F high and a 58°F low in November, with a 0% chance of rain on an average day. October runs 97°F. Seven degrees sounds like nothing until you are standing on the West Bank at noon with no shade written into the plan.
Take that figure for what it is: one city on the Nile, measured at one station, not a reading for the whole of Upper Egypt. Further south, it stops speaking for you. The 32-degree gap between the afternoon high and the night low is the part that decides what goes in the bag.
November hurricane season and low-season prices
The Atlantic hurricane season ends November 30, and its peak was September 10, with most of the activity falling between mid-August and mid-October.

Montego Bay holds 84°F afternoons and 75°F nights, and the sea sits at 85°F all month. Rain is where the island splits in two: Kingston counts 13 rain days in November, Port Antonio 21. Same weeks, same island, eight days of difference across a couple of hours of driving.
None of that makes the season over. Thirty days stand between a November 1 arrival and the official close on the 30th, which argues for refundable rates and for reading the storm record before booking rather than after. Dia de Muertos and Thanksgiving dates: November 1 and 2, and the 26th
Two crowd events sit three and a half weeks apart inside the same month, both set on the calendar years ahead: Día de Muertos, October 31 to November 2, and Thanksgiving, Thursday November 26.

The structure is precise rather than vague: November 1 honours deceased children, November 2 adults, with an evening parade on the 1st and vigils in the cemeteries on both nights. The monsoon is finished. The Thar runs roughly 59°F to 77°F, cool nights against warm sunny days, and rain is rare to non-existent. Eighteen degrees of swing inside a single day is the whole packing problem in one figure: shirt sleeves at the fort in the afternoon, a real layer on the dune at dusk.

Reykjavík runs between 33°F and 46°F, milder than the latitude leads people to expect. Light is the real variable. Daylight falls from about eight hours early in November to around five by its close, so darkness widens from roughly sixteen hours to nineteen inside four weeks. Anything that needs clear sky belongs early in the trip, so the weather gets several attempts at it.

November down there is late spring, with daytime highs around 61°F. Temperature is not the constraint. Wind is, and this ranks among the windiest months of the Patagonian year: it decides whether a ridge walk happens, how a tent behaves at 3 a.m., and what a lake crossing feels like from inside the boat.
What to avoid in November
The month’s two expensive mistakes have nothing to do with forecasts and everything to do with dates: a hurricane season that stays open to the 30th, and a color peak that was fully booked back in the spring.
The Caribbean before the 30th

September 10 is behind us, and so is the mid-August to mid-October stretch, which is usually where the reasoning stops. The calendar does not stop there. A booking for November 12 sits inside the season exactly as one for September 12 does, at lower odds. In practice that means refundable rates and insurance bought before a storm is named, not after.
Kyoto without a booking

Arriving inside the November 20 to December 5 window with nothing reserved is the other one. Four to six months is the lead time on peak rooms, and whatever survives runs roughly three times normal. If the dates are locked and the booking is not, aim at the edges of the window rather than the 27th, and put the temples before 9 a.m.

Budget tiers are relative November signals, estimated rather than quoted. One column behaves unlike the others: Reykjavík’s daylight is astronomy and will be exactly what it says on the day. Every temperature here is a thirty-year average that any given week is free to ignore, and Kyoto’s peak date is a forecast that moves with the autumn. Read the first as a fact and the other two as odds.
The last word
If your November is one free week and nothing on the calendar pins it, take the second half in Jamaica: rates stay low right up to the moment high season opens in mid-December, and the sea is at 85°F while airports back home are working through Thanksgiving. If family has already fixed the dates, spend the spare money on the Tuesday flight out and accept the crowd. The one trip that punishes improvisation is Kyoto, and it does so four to six months in advance.
