The air at 91.1°F and the sea at 88.3°F sit close together, so both beaches feel warm all day and the water gives little relief at midday. By October the sea falls 4.6 degrees, and the beach starts to feel like a different month.
We found no entry-fee data for either beach, so we label nothing free. One thing to know before you book a boat outing: the town sits at the edge of the Alto Golfo de California y Delta del Rio Colorado Biosphere Reserve, a federal protected area decreed on June 10, 1993. Swim while the water is calm, then head indoors by late morning. Spend the hot afternoon at lunch and a long rest, and return to the shore for the last hour of light before the 6:40 p.m. sunset. Dinner comes after dark.
Day two. Repeat the rhythm at Cholla Bay: an early swim, shade through the afternoon, the water again toward evening. If a shower arrives (0.8 days on average, 0.30 inches for the month), move the swim to the next morning.
