Seven days in Jamaica buys the north coast and the west. Ten buys the other island: Portland’s coves and rafting rivers in the east, the coffee ridges above Kingston, and the fishing beaches of the south around Treasure Beach and the Black River. The three extra days are not padding stitched onto the week. They pay for the drive past Annotto Bay and the climb over the mountains, the half of the map most trips hand back unopened. Bases, not daily hops: four unpackings in ten days, three of them for more than one night.

Jamaica in 10 days: the route, day one to day ten

Day 1 · Land at MBJ, run east to Ocho Rios. A pre-booked transfer or a hired driver takes the north coast road while the light holds. Nothing else belongs in this day, and an evening on the water in Ocho Rios is enough.

Days 2 and 3 · Ocho Rios, waterfalls first. Climb Dunn’s River early, before the ship crowd arrives, and save the Blue Hole’s rope swings for the afternoon. Day 3 stays deliberately slack. Keep it for a beach, the gardens, or a run west to the Luminous Lagoon after dark.

Day 4 · The coast road east to Port Antonio. Ocho Rios to Portland goes through Annotto Bay and Buff Bay, and it takes half the day once you stop for a patty and a viewpoint. The road narrows and slows past Annotto Bay, well beyond what the map suggests. Settle who holds the wheel with the driving verdict first.

Days 5 and 6 · Port Antonio. Blue Lagoon and Frenchman’s Cove in one direction, Boston Bay’s jerk pits and Reach Falls in the other, bamboo rafting on the Rio Grande on whichever morning the river is calm. Portland distances look tiny and drive long, so two nights here is the minimum that stops the coves turning into a schedule.

Day 7 · Over the Blue Mountains. The climb inland from the coast into coffee country is the finest half-day of driving on the island and the least forgiving: switchbacks, no shoulder, mist arriving without notice. Sleep on a ridge in the mountains or carry on down into Kingston.

Day 8 · Kingston, or the spare day. Bob Marley Museum, Trench Town, Devon House, and the country’s deepest restaurant scene. Should rain or a storm have eaten a day earlier in the trip, take it back here. A wet morning costs the capital very little and costs Portland’s coves everything.

Days 9 and 10 · The south coast, then out. Cross to Treasure Beach in the morning, book a Black River safari or the boat out to Floyd’s Pelican Bar, and leave day 10 for one swim and the long run north to MBJ. Flying home from KIN instead deletes that final drive and buys back a morning.

Where to stay for 10 days in Jamaica: Port Antonio or Treasure Beach

Four bases suit travelers who enjoy the moving part. The calmer ten days keeps two: the north coast, then either Portland or the south, with the freed nights spent where you already sleep. The east gives rivers, coves and greenery bought with afternoon rain. The south gives flat roads, fishing villages and the Black River, plus the country’s slowest post-storm rebuilding schedule.

Order matters more than the count. North coast first because MBJ is where you land, and the second base last because the return drive is the one that threatens the flight. Travelers who want coffee slopes without the capital can sleep in the hills and skip Kingston entirely. 10 days in Jamaica: what the route leaves out

Going east means the west stays unvisited. Seven Mile Beach, the cliff bars and the sunset ritual belong to the shorter trip, and adding them here would put you back in a van for a second full day. Blue Mountain Peak also stays out. The sunrise hike wants a night high on the mountain and a start in the dark, and it does not slot between Kingston and the south coast. What to book for 10 days in Jamaica

In order of regret prevented: the C5 immigration form the week before you fly, drivers for the two long legs on days 4 and 9, and south coast lodging, where the good small places are few and fill early. Everything else can wait until you are on the island.

Timing decides how much of the spare day you actually need, so set the dates with the month-by-month verdict and read the hurricane file if the trip lands between June and November. Mountain nights run cooler than the coast, so pack a layer per the short list. The last word

The stretch that justifies the three extra days is the descent out of the Blue Mountains: coffee bushes on the slope, mist burning off the ridge behind you, Kingston’s harbour flattening into view, and the north coast you slept on two nights earlier already a different country. Nothing in a seven-day loop puts you on that road.

Ten days also means a rained-out morning costs you nothing structural. You still eat jerk at Boston Bay, still take the boat out to Pelican Bar, still make the flight.
