November is a good month for travelers who want the caldera views without the crowds and can live with cooler days and some closed doors. It suits walkers, photographers, wine lovers and anyone who hates being shoulder to shoulder in a lane. The island slows down, the villages feel lived in, and a little flexibility pays off every day.

What is the weather like in Santorini in November?
| Month | Average high | Average low | Sea | Rainy days | Daylight (15th) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| October | 74°F (23°C) | 64°F (18°C) | 74°F (24°C) | 4 | 11 h 11 |
| November | 67°F (19°C) | 57°F (14°C) | 70°F (21°C) | 6 | 10 h 10 |
| December | 60°F (16°C) | 52°F (11°C) | 66°F (19°C) | 9 | 9 h 41 |
Expect mild days, cool evenings and some wind. Most days stay dry. Rain becomes more likely later in the month, and the weather can swing between sunny stretches and gray, blustery ones. Plan each day loosely and keep an indoor option in your back pocket.
The sea is still warm enough for a dip early in the month, especially in sheltered spots. The darker beaches have warmer water because the lava soaks up heat. Most visitors end up enjoying the water from the shore.
Evenings call for layers. The sun sets around 5 p.m., so a hike or a long drive needs an early start.
How does November compare with October and December?
October is the easy month. The air and the sea are warmer, boat tours still run, and far more hotels and restaurants are open. For a first visit, October is the more comfortable choice.
November gives up some of that in exchange for quiet and lower prices. The gap in what is open is significant, so decide which matters more to you: warm weather and the full range of hotels, restaurants and tours, or empty lanes and better rates.
December is cooler, wetter and darker than November, with more rainy days.
Is November a good time to visit Santorini?
For the right traveler, yes. Without the summer crowds, the villages feel quieter and more local, and the viewpoints in Oia feel calmer and less hurried. Sunsets there are calmer, with people lingering instead of jostling for a spot.
Closures are the catch. Many seasonal restaurants, shops and caldera hotels shut in late October or early November, and some tours stop running. Santorini does not close down completely in November, though it helps to check that a restaurant is open before you plan an evening around it. Finding an open kitchen is the bigger task.
Prices follow the crowds. Hotel rates are low, and the hotels and restaurants that stay open often offer better deals than they did even a month earlier.
Where should you stay in Santorini in November?
Fira is the smartest base. It has a wide choice of open hotels, restaurants and shops, it is home to the main bus station, and it stays lively without the peak-season buzz. Oia works for a quieter stay with caldera views, though fewer places stay open there, especially late in the month. Imerovigli also has fewer options. The beach towns of Kamari, Perissa and Perivolos are quieter in November, and many of their restaurants close by the middle of the month.
Book early for a caldera-view room. Many caldera hotels close for the winter, so the choice among those still open is small.
How do you get to and around Santorini in November?
Many international flights wind down for the season by November, so flying into Athens and connecting onward to the island is usually the simplest way to arrive. Ferries still link Santorini with Athens and some other islands, with fewer departures than in summer. In rough weather, a conventional ferry is a steadier choice than a small high-speed boat. Check the current timetable before you commit.
The KTEL buses run all year on a much thinner schedule, which makes a rental car the handiest way to get around. Rental rates are low, traffic is light and parking is easy. Greek law requires visitors who drive to carry a valid U.S. driver's license, and insurance companies may require an international driver’s permit.
What is there to do in Santorini in November?
Walk. The cliff path from Fira to Oia is quiet and comfortable in cool weather. Pick a dry, calm day and set out early, so you are done well before the sun goes down. The hike up Skaros Rock above Imerovigli, crowned by the ruins of a medieval castle, gives wide views of the caldera and plenty of room to stop for photos. Clouds and shifting light bring scenes you rarely see in summer.
Drive south. Akrotiri, the ancient Minoan city, is the best bad-weather outing on the island because most of the site sits under a roof. Winter hours are shorter, so check the schedule before you go. Pyrgos and Megalochori are easy to explore without crowds, and the drive pairs well with a winery stop.
Wineries suit a damp afternoon. Confirm hours directly before setting out. Look for Assyrtiko, Aidini and Athiri among the whites, and Mandilaria and Mavrotragano among the reds. The Koutsoyannopoulos Wine Museum, a couple of miles outside Fira, is housed in a cave and gives a fine overview of the island's winemaking.
Food is a highlight. Order tomatokeftedes, the island's tomato fritters, and the local spelt pie, then settle into a long dinner. Evenings stay calm, with cozy cocktails, quiet wine pairings and low music, and Fira is where the night energy gathers.
A few catamaran cruises still sail in early November, with smaller groups than in summer.
Local feast days fill the calendar: St. Several feast days fall in early November, including St. Anargyros in Messaria and Michaelmas, which brings church parades and feasting, as well as St. Minas in Fira and St. Ioannis in Imerovigli, both celebrated in the first half of the month.
What should you pack for Santorini in November?
Pack long pants, a few sweaters, a warm jacket and a waterproof layer. Santorini is windy, so a waterproof jacket beats an umbrella. Good walking shoes matter for the hikes and for the village stairways. Bring a swimsuit if you hope to swim early in the month. Most outdoor hotel pools are unheated in November, and many hotels with pools are closed too, so check before you book.
What do Americans need to enter Greece?
U.S. citizens may enter Greece without a visa for stays of up to 90 days for tourism or business. Your passport should have at least three months of validity beyond your planned departure date, and a passport reported lost or stolen will not be accepted for entry. Be ready to show proof of sufficient funds and a return ticket or other evidence of departure if asked. Strikes and demonstrations can disrupt flights, ferries and taxis with little notice, so build some slack into your connections through Athens.
