Mykonos in June: Weather, Crowds and What to Do

June is one of the best months for a Mykonos trip. Days are warm, sunny and dry, the beach clubs are open, and the island is lively without the crush of July and August. The sea is warmer than in May and the party scene fuller. July is hotter and pricier, and June rooms are easier to book.

What is the weather like in Mykonos in June?

Mykonos weather from May to July (long-term averages)
Month Average high Average low Sea Rainy days Daylight (15th)
May 72°F (22°C) 62°F (16°C) 66°F (19°C) 2 14 h 10
June 80°F (27°C) 69°F (20°C) 73°F (23°C) under 1 14 h 44
July 83°F (28°C) 73°F (23°C) 77°F (25°C) under 1 14 h 30

Expect sunshine and very little rain. Hotter days become more common as the month goes on. The sea can feel brisk in early June and warms steadily, so swimming gets better the later you come.

Evenings are usually comfortable, but wind changes that. A waterfront table or an open terrace can turn chilly on a breezy night. Locals call Mykonos the Island of the Winds, and the Meltemi can already start up in June, even if it blows harder and more steadily in July and August.

On windy days, choose your beach accordingly. Ornos, Psarou and Platis Gialos are more sheltered. The north-coast beaches of Ftelia and Panormos take the full force of the wind. Check the forecast before you commit to a north-coast beach or a boat tour.

How does June compare with May and July?

May is quieter and cheaper, with mild days and little rain. The sea is still on the cool side in May, and a few seasonal businesses are just getting ready to open. June is the better month for swimming, beach clubs and nightlife.

July brings much the same summer weather, with hotter days and a warmer sea. It is also busier and more expensive, and reservations are harder to get. June gives you most of the summer for less money and less hassle.

Is June a good time to visit Mykonos?

For most travelers, yes. Check individual venues for opening dates and special events.

The month splits in two. Early June gives you a gentler side of Mykonos, with softer prices, lighter crowds and tables and rooms that are easier to book. Late June is firmly high season. It is hotter and pricier, the beach clubs are busier, and the nightlife is stronger. Mykonos Town fills up in the evenings, especially on weekends. Pick early June for value and late June if partying is the priority.

Hotel rates are high all month, though below July and August, and they climb as June goes on. Book several months ahead, particularly in Mykonos Town, at beach hotels, and for rooms with private pools or sea views.

Where should you stay in Mykonos in June?

Your base shapes the trip:

  • Mykonos Town: best for first-timers, dining, nightlife, shopping, and not depending on taxis after dinner.
  • Ornos: a sheltered beach, good restaurants and an easy trip into town. It suits couples and families.
  • Platis Gialos: hotels near the sand, water-taxi access and a good bus link to town.
  • Psarou: the luxury choice, close to Nammos.
  • Elia: a roomier, resort-style beach stay, where a rental car or arranged transfers help.
  • Agios Ioannis suits travelers after a calmer stay, with good places to eat and hotels facing west for sunset views.

How do you get to and around Mykonos in June?

In summer, regular ferries link Mykonos with Athens, from both Piraeus and Rafina, and with Santorini, Paros, Naxos and other Cycladic islands. Service is reliable in June. Strong winds can still mean rough crossings, delays or the occasional cancellation. Book high-speed ferries and any crossing your itinerary depends on early, and check timetables before you lock in hotels. If you're flying home from Athens, spend the night before in the city. Don't count on a ferry arriving just in time for your flight.

Taxis are scarce, especially when many arrivals land at once. Have your hotel set up an airport or port transfer, or reserve a private one before you travel.

Service increases for summer, but buses get crowded, especially later in June. The town's two main bus stations, Fabrika and the Old Port, serve different routes.

Rent one if you're at a remote villa or want to reach out-of-the-way beaches, and reserve it ahead. Many visitors find a car more practical than an ATV for exploring the island. Greek law requires a valid U.S. driver's license, and insurance companies may require an international driver’s permit. Thieves are known to break into rental cars, so it's wise to take passports, valuables and luggage with you.

What is there to do in Mykonos in June?

Beach clubs set the tone. Nammos at Psarou is the luxury pick. Scorpios at Paraga is known for sunset music and dining. Reserve daybeds, premium seating and dinner tables ahead, especially sunset slots at Scorpios. Mykonos is also a gay-friendly island with a lively gay nightlife scene.

The water taxi makes it easy to see several beaches in one day.

In Mykonos Town, wander the lanes early while they're calm. Then stay for sunset drinks in Little Venice, dinner, and the late-night bars. Book popular restaurants in town and in the main beach areas, especially for dinner.

June is a good month for Delos, before the worst of the summer heat. Take an early boat and pack a hat and water, since the archaeological site offers very little shade. Rhenia swimming trips and south-coast cruises are also good picks. Private charters and popular small-group cruises are best reserved in advance. It's wise not to plan your one boat trip for the last day, since strong winds can affect departures.

What should you pack for Mykonos in June?

Pack light, breathable clothes for the days and a sweater or light jacket for windy evenings. Bring a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses, since you'll spend long hours in strong sun. Add comfortable walking shoes, a reusable water bottle, and at least two swimsuits for all the time you'll spend in the water.

Do Americans need a visa for Greece?

No. U.S. citizens can visit Greece without a visa for up to 90 days for tourism or business. Your passport should have at least three months of validity beyond your planned departure date. A passport that has been reported lost or stolen will not be accepted for entry. Be ready to show proof of sufficient funds and a return ticket or other evidence of departure if asked.

Is Mykonos safe to visit?

Greece is a generally safe destination, though petty crime is common in popular tourist spots. Forest fires are common in the dry summer months and occasionally close roads. Strikes and demonstrations happen often and can disrupt seaports, airports, taxis and public transportation. Carry your passport or another photo ID at all times.
