Corfu Airport, officially "Ioannis Kapodistrias," sits about 2 miles (3 kilometers) south of Corfu Town, so you can be in the old center about ten minutes after you clear the terminal. It's a small, single terminal with a handful of shops and places to eat. A city bus stops out front, taxis wait at arrivals, and the rental desks are in the arrivals hall.

Where is Corfu Airport, and what's the approach like?
The airport is the island's main gateway. It sits in the Garitsa area, half a mile north of the islet of Pontikonisi. The terminal is on Route 25, which runs straight into Corfu Town, also called Kerkyra, along a short, well-signposted road.
The landing is the part people remember. The runway stretches almost to the sea, and planes seem to skim the turquoise water before touching down. The runway runs almost to the water, so a window seat can give you a look at the Chalikiopoulos lagoon and the Kanoni peninsula as you land or take off. It's one of the most photographed approaches in the Mediterranean.
Who flies to Corfu, and how long does it take?
Aegean Airlines and Olympic Air run scheduled routes all year, and Sky Express also serves the island. Summer is the busiest season, when charter and scheduled flights link Corfu with many European cities. Nonstop flights from Italy, France, Spain, the UK, Germany and Scandinavia are frequent then. Carriers on the airport's list include British Airways, easyJet, Jet2.com, Ryanair, Lufthansa, ITA Airways, Iberia, Air France, SAS, Norwegian, Condor, Edelweiss Air and flydubai. Some airlines may not fly all year, so it's worth checking your carrier's timetable for the month you plan to travel.
From Athens the flight takes 1 hour 15 minutes, and from Thessaloniki it takes 55 minutes. All times on the airport's flight boards are Greek local time. The airport has passport control, so have your passport within reach when you travel.
Is Corfu Airport closing in January 2027?
Yes. From 20 January to 28 January 2027, the runway will be rebuilt and all commercial and private flights to and from the airport will stop. If your dates fall in that window, contact your airline or travel agent about schedule changes.
What is Corfu Airport like inside?
It's small and simple, and in summer it's known for crowds and long lines, so leave plenty of time for departures. The terminal has a few cafés and snack bars, including Pret A Manger in departures, plus a duty-free shop and a Press Gate shop for newspapers, books, snacks and travel essentials. Hours are tied to the flight schedule and can shift outside peak summer, so it's worth checking before a late flight. Drinking fountains can be hard to find in the terminal, so it's a good idea to bring an empty bottle or buy water once inside.
Free WiFi covers the terminal. You'll find ATMs landside and airside, a currency exchange desk, baggage carts, an information desk and basic medical help. You'll find charging hubs around the terminal, before and after security, with USB-C, Micro-USB and Lightning ports. Travelers report that they charge slowly when several devices share them, and regular outlets can be tricky to spot. A pay-at-the-door lounge sits in the non-Schengen departures area and closes in winter.
Travelers with disabilities or reduced mobility can ask for assistance at the airport, and it's wise to request it well ahead of your flight. The airport has no left-luggage service, so plan your last day around your bags. It also has no rest areas or cots, and for an early flight you're better off at one of the hotels within half a mile of the terminal, such as Hotel Bretagne or Dalia.
How do you get from Corfu Airport to Corfu Town?
You have four easy options, and the right one depends on your luggage, your group and the time you land.
Bus
The blue city bus, line 15, links the airport with the center of Corfu Town and the port. The stop is in front of the terminal building, and you buy your ticket from the driver. The ride to the San Rocco Square station in the old town takes about 10 minutes in normal traffic, on buses that are generally modern and air-conditioned. Buses run about every 20 minutes in high season and every 30 to 40 minutes in quieter months. Service ends in the late evening, so if you land late, plan on a taxi or a private transfer.
Taxi
Official taxis, painted blue, wait outside the arrivals terminal around the clock. The ride to Corfu Town takes about 10 minutes. In peak season, lines form when several flights land at once.
Private transfer
You can book a driver in advance to meet you at arrivals and take you to your hotel or any other address. It skips the taxi line and suits groups, families and anyone with a lot of luggage or a late arrival.
Rental car
Desks in the arrivals hall include Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt, alongside local companies. A car is the best way to reach the hidden beaches and mountain villages that buses serve poorly, and Corfu is more spread out than most visitors expect. Rental prices soar in July and August, so reserve well ahead for summer. The drive into town is short, but parking in the center can be harder and pricier in high season. Head for one of the pay lots on the edge of the old town.
Where can you park at Corfu Airport?
The main lot sits right next to the terminal, with 271 spaces for short and long-term parking. It's fenced, watched by security cameras around the clock and fully accessible, with dedicated spaces for drivers with disabilities. A free lot is also on your left as you approach the airport entrance.
How far is Corfu Airport from the ferry port and the beach resorts?
The ferry port is about 1 mile (1.5 kilometers) from the old town, and a taxi or transfer from the airport usually gets there in under 10 minutes. Line 15 also runs between the airport, San Rocco Square and the port, so one bus covers all three. If you're catching a ferry to Italy or Albania, ask to be dropped at the international terminal, further down the road in the port area.
Resorts farther out take more planning. Dassia is about 7 miles (12 kilometers) from Corfu Town, and Acharavi, on the north coast, is roughly 25 miles (40 kilometers) from the airport. Taxi fares to places like Dassia, Ipsos, Paleokastritsa or Kavos rise with distance, and a rental car or a pre-booked transfer can make the trip simpler. On a budget, the island's green KTEL buses and the blue city buses reach many villages from Corfu Town. Several green routes, including Roda and Acharavi, Paleokastritsa and Glyfada, sell tickets online, and next departures from the KTEL Central Bus Station can be tracked in real time, so check before you head to the stop.
