WARM MINERAL SPRINGS · FLORIDA · APRIL
April puts the air within a couple of degrees of the water. The USGS gauge at the spring read 84.6°F (29.2°C) on September 11, 2026, and it reads close to that every day of the year. The average April afternoon at the nearest official station reaches 82.5°F, the average night falls to 62.7°F. You climb out of the water into air that barely registers as a change.
Rain is the other half of the case: 2.46 inches across the month and three days of measurable falls, against 2.85 inches in March and 2.58 in May. Where to sleep and what a Florida week costs sit in our lodging guide and the cost breakdown. April’s question is a date question: what these four weeks give you, what they take, and whether a month on either side would serve you better.

THE MONTH AT A GLANCE · WARM MINERAL SPRINGS · APRIL

LAST MONTH OF THE DRY SEASON · 3 RAIN DAYS · 12 H 52 MIN OF DAYLIGHT ON APRIL 15
Go for: a warm swim with a cool morning behind it, the lowest rain total of March through May, and daylight that runs to almost 13 hours.
Think twice before: planning around a price or an opening hour. Call the park to confirm the entrance fee and closing day, and the property for the county lodging-tax rate, before you commit.

One thing to know before the figures: the air normals below are measured at Sarasota Bradenton airport, about 27 miles (44 km) from the spring, because that is where the nearest long-record official thermometer sits. They describe the air only. The water has no season, and that is precisely why people drive here in February and in August alike.

NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information publish the 1991-2020 normals for station USW00012871: an average April high of 82.5°F, an average low of 62.7°F, and 2.46 inches of precipitation over the month. These are station normals from a real thermometer with a thirty-year record, not a gridded reanalysis of a model cell. The two are not interchangeable, and they disagree most on overnight lows, so it is worth knowing which one you are reading.
Three days in an average April record at least a tenth of an inch, and 0.6 day records an inch or more. Translated into a week of plans, measurable rain lands roughly one day in ten, and a genuine soaking turns up in about three Aprils out of five. Dry-season rain in southwest Florida usually comes as a front passing rather than the afternoon storm machine of July, so a wet hour rarely costs the whole day. Rain changes nothing at all at the vent, where the gauge holds near 84.6°F regardless.
Day to night, the spread runs just under 20 degrees, 82.5°F down to 62.7°F. Treat that as a packing instruction. A swimsuit and a towel cover the middle of the day, mornings before eight and anything after sunset want long sleeves, and a fleece is the right call if you plan to sit outside with wet hair. Nobody needs a coat at this latitude in April. Nobody regrets a windbreaker on a front day either.
April 15 brings 12 hours 52 minutes of daylight, with sunrise at 7:02 a.m. and sunset at 7:54 p.m. local time. A 6 p.m. swim is still a daytime swim, and the drive back afterward happens in light. Put the first swim in the two hours after opening and the second in the last two before dusk, and you skip the hottest stretch of the afternoon entirely.
How warm is Warm Mineral Springs in April, in the air and in the water?
The month averages 82.5°F by day and 62.7°F at night, a gap of 19.8 degrees. The spring sits above both: 84.6°F (29.2°C) when USGS station 02299260 was read on September 11, 2026. That is a single instantaneous reading rather than a monthly average, and it is one of the few numbers in Florida that barely moves across the calendar. In April the water runs about two degrees warmer than the average afternoon and close to 22 degrees warmer than the average night.
Morning arrivals want one layer for the walk from the car and nothing else once they are in. By 1 p.m. the air has usually climbed into the low 80s and that layer goes back in the bag. Sun matters more than temperature by then: the day runs nearly thirteen hours and shade around a spring basin is limited. Hat, a shirt for the drive back, and more drinking water than you expect, since a long warm soak dehydrates without announcing itself.
Freezing nights are not something we can count here. The average April low from the Sarasota Bradenton record is 62.7°F. What the same record does support: even at the coldest hour of an average April night, the water is roughly 22 degrees warmer than the air above it.
How busy is Warm Mineral Springs in April? Crowds, prices and booking
April closes Florida’s dry season, the November-to-April run laid out in our best-time guide, and it is the last month before the heat and the daily storms take over the state calendar. That placement is a fact of the calendar, not of the invoice. We found no occupancy series and no monthly room-rate series for North Port or the surrounding county, so we crown no month cheap and no month expensive.
Spring break peaks in March across the Florida beach towns, and April arrives behind it, with state-level pressure easing as the month goes on. Since no rate series backs that up, hold the plan loosely rather than tightly: reserve the room the same afternoon you book the flight into Tampa or Fort Myers, take the refundable rate when the gap between the two prices is small, and let our flights guide settle which airport works better on your dates.
We could not verify the county lodging-tax rate, so we give no percentage. Ask any property for the all-in nightly total, taxes included, before you compare two quotes, because the folio and the headline rate are rarely the same number. The rest of the daily arithmetic for a Florida week, meals and gas included, sits in the trip-cost guide.
One line item genuinely changes the month, and it is the car. Florida is a car state outside a few resort and beach bubbles, and North Port is not one of them, so the rental is what buys you the early swim, a Gulf afternoon and a drive home inside the 7:54 p.m. light. Pay for the class you will be comfortable in for three hours a day, and read our getting-around guide on tolls. Many Florida toll roads take electronic payment only.
Things to do in Warm Mineral Springs in April

April is the month when the air and the water sit within a couple of degrees of each other. It is also the driest of the three spring months at the station, 2.46 inches over three days of measurable rain, with afternoons at 82.5°F rather than May’s 87.5°F and nearly thirteen hours of daylight to spread a day across. A full outdoor day works in April in a way it stops working in May, when the heat pushes the middle hours into air conditioning.
The spring is the reason to be in North Port at all, and the numbers describing it come from the gauge on site: 84.6°F (29.2°C) at the vent on the September 2026 reading, steady enough that the season overhead makes no difference to the swim itself. Florida law keeps a protected class called Outstanding Florida Springs, defined in statute 373.802(5) as the historic first-magnitude springs plus six named by hand. We could not confirm whether Warm Mineral Springs is on that list, so we make no claim. For the region’s other water, see our things-to-do guide.
Run one water temperature against three months of air and the season shows up plainly. March averages 78.2°F by day, 6.4 degrees below the water, so the air is what you brace against on the climb out. April narrows that to 2.1 degrees. By May the air has overtaken the water by 2.9 degrees, and the soak becomes the cool part of the day instead of the warm one.
What is free in April, we cannot tell you, and we would rather say so than invent it. The state parks site answers automated reads with a 403, so we retrieved no entrance fee, no opening hour and no closing day. The wildlife commission’s manatee page renders client-side, so no count came back either. Call before you drive, and budget for a paid entry.
Warm Mineral Springs in April: a two-day itinerary
Day one runs on the light. Sunrise is 7:02 a.m. in mid-April, so leave the room by seven and be in the lot when the gate opens, whatever hour the park confirms on the phone. Swim while the air is still nearer 62.7°F than 82.5°F, because 84.6°F water reads warmest against a cool morning. Out by eleven, lunch and shade through the hottest stretch, then a Gulf beach for the afternoon: Siesta Key is the one we have written up in full. Back on the road for the last light at 7:54 p.m.
Day two can invert the order: a slow morning, an early-afternoon soak, and the drive out before dark. If one of the month’s three rain days lands on you, keep the swim and move the beach. Water temperature does not care about weather, and a dry-season front usually passes in an hour or two rather than settling in for the day. If it settles in anyway, our seven-day itinerary shows how a spring day slots into a longer Florida week without wasting the drive.
Warm Mineral Springs in April vs March and May
| Measure | March | April | May |
|---|---|---|---|
| Average high | 78.2°F | 82.5°F | 87.5°F |
| Average low | 58.1°F | 62.7°F | 68.2°F |
| Precipitation | 2.85 in | 2.46 in | 2.58 in |
| Days with 0.10 in or more | 3.6 | 3.0 | 3.8 |
| Spring water | near 84.6°F | near 84.6°F | near 84.6°F |
Side by side, April sits between two very different months. March runs 78.2°F by day and 58.1°F at night, with 2.85 inches of rain across 3.6 days of measurable falls. April warms to 82.5°F and 62.7°F and dries to 2.46 inches over 3.0 days. May climbs again, to 87.5°F and 68.2°F, with 2.58 inches over 3.8 days. The gauge at the vent shows none of this movement and stays near 84.6°F throughout.
Shift four weeks earlier and you gain cooler afternoons for anything done on land, plus a 58.1°F night that makes the 7 a.m. contrast with the water sharper. You pay 0.39 inch more rain and 0.6 more rain day, and you land inside the spring-break weeks. Shift four weeks later and you gain the warmest evenings of the three. You lose the dry advantage, with 3.8 days of measurable rain and 87.5°F afternoons that take the middle of the day off the plan.
Is April a good time to visit Warm Mineral Springs?
Yes, clearly, for anyone building the trip around the water. April gives the swim at 84.6°F, the walk back to the car at 82.5°F and the smallest rain total of the spring. It is a weaker month for two groups: people who want cool weather for long hours of hiking, since 82.5°F afternoons with April sun are not hiking weather here, and people traveling on school-holiday dates who expect quiet, because we have no crowd data that would let us promise it.
If the heat is what puts you off, take March instead: 78.2°F afternoons and 58.1°F nights over exactly the same 84.6°F water, at a cost of 0.39 inch more rain and 0.6 more rain day. Our March page runs those numbers in full. If you want long warm evenings and do not mind sweating for them, May’s 87.5°F is only four weeks away and its rain total, 2.58 inches, is barely above April’s.
What April alone gives, among these three months, is the two-degree afternoon: you step out of 84.6°F water into air that is neither noticeably colder nor noticeably warmer than what you just left.
The last word
Decide on the water and everything else falls in behind it. If the swim is the trip, April asks the least of you of any month in the spring: one layer at 7 a.m., none at 1 p.m., and three rain days in thirty to plan around. The same gauge that reads the temperature measured 8 cubic feet per second leaving the vent, and that volume is why the water is clear, replaced faster than it can cloud. Set the alarm for 6:30, since sunrise on April 15 is at 7:02 and the coolest air of the day is the best thing that can happen to an 84.6°F soak.
