ICHETUCKNEE SPRINGS · JUNE · NORTH FLORIDA
June is the month the air catches up with the river. At the nearest official weather station, average highs reach 89.5°F and nights stop at 70.6°F. The spring run, fed from underground, has no season at all: it moves past the launches in June exactly as it did in February. That gap between a hot bank and cold water is why people drive here in summer rather than in spring.
A June Saturday is decided in the parking lot. The state counts 909 spaces at Ichetucknee Springs State Park, and when they fill, the gate closes. Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection puts peak-summer traffic at as many as 3,000 visitors a day. Set the alarm, then read the rain line: 9.1 days in an average June record at least a tenth of an inch of precipitation.

ICHETUCKNEE SPRINGS · JUNE
June gives you fourteen hours of daylight and near-90°F afternoons over water that never changes temperature, at the price of a 909-space lot that fills and rain on roughly one day in three.

June sits inside Florida’s wet season, and the state’s calendar shows it: the rain total more than doubles May’s, while the river runs on groundwater and holds steady underneath. Book the nights, set the arrival time, and read the normals below in that order.
Ichetucknee Springs weather in June: average highs, lows and rain days
| June measure | 1991-2020 normal |

| Average low | 70.6°F |
| Precipitation | 7.00 inches |

Every figure here comes from NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information, 1991-2020 monthly normals, station USW00012833 at Cross City AP, about 27 miles from the spring. That is a real thermometer rather than a model grid cell, and it measures air. June averages a high of 89.5°F, a low of 70.6°F and 7.00 inches of precipitation. The water in the run keeps its own temperature all year.
Measurable rain lands on roughly one day in three: 9.1 days at 0.10 inch or more, with 2.0 days bringing an inch or more. On the ground that usually means an afternoon build-up rather than a gray morning. You float, you eat at the take-out, and the sky goes dark about the time you were thinking of a second run. We could not verify the park’s lightning policy, so leave the water on your own judgment.
Dawn runs close to 70°F and mid-afternoon close to 90, so a June day asks for two kinds of clothing in the same small bag. Take a towel you can stand on, a long-sleeve sun layer for the float, and dry shoes for the walk back from the exit. Anything that must stay dry travels in a bag that actually closes, because a tube tips more easily than first-timers expect.
June 15 delivers 14 hours 07 minutes of daylight, sunrise at 6:28 a.m. and sunset at 8:35 p.m. local time. Light that long changes the shape of a weekend: drive in after work on Friday, sleep close by, and you are at the gate before the parking question arises. Trails stay walkable well past dinner, which is a rare thing in a state where most sightseeing ends at five.
How warm is Ichetucknee Springs in June?
The month’s normal high is 89.5°F and its normal low 70.6°F, a swing of 18.9 degrees between the coolest hour and the hottest. July adds only 0.6 degrees to the daytime figure. What really separates June from May is the night: 70.6°F against 62.7, nearly eight degrees warmer after dark, and that is the number that makes an early start comfortable instead of bracing.
Mornings call for a T-shirt you will not mind soaking and sleeves by ten. Afternoons at 89.5°F with wet-season humidity make anything heavier a mistake, and shade over the water is patchy rather than continuous. A hat that stays on in current, sunscreen, and drinking water for the walk out of the take-out cover most of what a June visitor forgets.
No freeze nights appear in the June normals we read, and with a mean low of 70.6°F the question does not come up. The figure readers ask for next is the water itself, and we could not verify a temperature reading for the spring, so we give none. The USGS gauge at the spring measured 23 cubic feet per second leaving the vent on September 11, 2026, one instantaneous reading rather than a June average.
How busy is Ichetucknee Springs in June? Crowds, prices and the demand peak
Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection ranks Ichetucknee among the state’s finest spring parks for canoeing, kayaking and tubing, and says peak summer months bring as many as 3,000 visitors a day. June sits inside that window rather than at its edge. We found no occupancy series and no monthly room rates, so we crown no month expensive and call no month a bargain.
The constraint we can name is the lot: 909 spaces, counted by the state in its 2024 facilities inventory, and a gate that closes once they are gone. We could not verify a reservation system, a launch cap or an opening hour, so we publish no booking window. Treat your arrival time as the reservation, pick a weekday if the calendar allows, and have a second plan ready for a Saturday in the middle of school vacation.
We could not verify an entrance fee for the park, and we could not verify the county lodging-tax rate, so no price and no percentage appears from us. Fees differ from park to park and from season to season, and a figure copied off another Florida spring does not transfer. Our Florida trip cost guide gives the statewide shape of a budget; the gate price is worth a phone call the week you travel.
The one line worth paying up for in June is the night before. A bed within an easy morning drive turns a 6:28 sunrise into an ordinary start rather than a highway run in the dark, and it is the difference between the lot and a locked gate. Where to stay in Florida sorts the regions, and our getting-around guide covers the car, which you will need for this one.
Things to do in Ichetucknee Springs in June

June is the month cold water reads as a reward: 89.5°F on the bank, and enough daylight that a late-afternoon float still ends in full light. The state describes more than seven miles of swiftly flowing river here, which is a long morning rather than a quick dip. In January the same water is a dare, and the same drive buys a very different day.
All of it sits inside Ichetucknee Springs State Park. The state’s 2024 facilities inventory counts 4 canoe, kayak and tube launches, 4.2 miles of hiking trail, 1,472 feet of boardwalk, 2 designated swimming areas and 909 parking spaces. Florida DEP’s own Visit a Spring page describes three separate canoe and tube launches rather than four, and we give both counts rather than pick a winner between two state publications.
The water is the constant and the air is the variable, and that is the whole seasonal story at a spring. A June afternoon at 89.5°F sitting over a run that never warms up is a contrast no other Florida swim gives you cheaply. Volume keeps the water clear as well: the flow at the vent replaces it faster than it can cloud, which is why photographs of this river look retouched and are not.
Florida law lists Ichetucknee among Outstanding Florida Springs under Statute 373.802(5), a protection covering every historic first-magnitude spring plus six named by hand in the text. That status does not come with a free entry day, and we found none published, so we promise none. What we can say is that the trails and the boardwalk sit inside the same gate as the river, so a rained-out hour costs nothing extra.
Ichetucknee Springs in June: a two-day itinerary
Day one runs on the light. Sunrise at 6:28 a.m., gate soon after, first float on the water by mid-morning while the lot still has room. Eat at the take-out, take the second run in the early afternoon, and watch the western sky: an average June day builds heat all morning and delivers its rain later. Dry off on the boardwalk around five, then walk a trail loop until the 8:35 p.m. sunset.
Day two swaps the order: trails first while the air is nearer 70.6°F, a swim in one of the two designated areas at midday, and the drive out before dinner. If the sky turns, remember that 2.0 days in an average June bring an inch or more, and that is the day for canopy trail, the boardwalk, and an indoor stop borrowed from our Florida list. Nothing about the river changes in rain except your comfort on the bank.
Ichetucknee Springs in June vs May and July
| Normal (1991-2020) | May | June | July |
|---|---|---|---|
| Average high | 86.7°F | 89.5°F | 90.1°F |
| Average low | 62.7°F | 70.6°F | 72.5°F |
| Precipitation | 2.74 in | 7.00 in | 7.77 in |
| Days with 0.10 in or more | 4.7 | 9.1 | 11.6 |
| Spring water | No monthly figure verified | No monthly figure verified | No monthly figure verified |
May runs 86.7°F by day and 62.7°F at night, with 2.74 inches of rain across 4.7 wet days. June adds 2.8 degrees to the day and 7.9 to the night, more than doubles the rain total at 7.00 inches, and nearly doubles the wet-day count at 9.1. July pushes further in the same direction: 90.1°F, 72.5°F, 7.77 inches, 11.6 wet days. The spring is the flat line under all three, and no source we read assigns it a monthly value.
Shift four weeks back to May and you buy dry weather, 4.7 wet days against 9.1, plus a bank that runs 2.8 degrees cooler. Those 62.7°F nights are a poor trade if your plan is warm air over cold water at nine in the morning. Shift forward to July and you pay 2.5 extra wet days for 0.6 degrees of warmth. June is the compromise the calendar actually offers.
Is June a good time to visit Ichetucknee Springs?
Yes, for anyone whose trip is built around the water. The bank is warm enough that a cold float feels like a treat, the day is long enough that a Friday-evening arrival still works, and the river runs the full length the state advertises. No, if your vacation depends on a guaranteed dry afternoon, or if finding the gate shut at eleven on a Saturday would sour the whole weekend for the family.
If that describes you, take May instead: 4.7 wet days against June’s 9.1, 2.74 inches of rain against 7.00, the same water underneath and a much emptier lot. You pay for it with 62.7°F nights and an 86.7°F afternoon, which is a cooler start to a cold swim. For the full twelve-month view of the state, our best-time guide makes the dry-season case.
What June alone gives you: near-90°F air, 14 hours 07 minutes of daylight on the 15th, and a river running exactly as it did in February.
The last word
Decide one thing before you leave the house, and it is not the packing list: what time you will be at the gate. Everything else in a June visit bends around 909 spaces. Then keep a paddle plan in reserve, because the park also holds 2.8 miles of marked paddling trail, and a canoe from one launch is a different day out from a tube at another. Call for the gate price the week you go, since we could not verify it.
