FLORIDA · JUNE · BISCAYNE NATIONAL PARK
Biscayne National Park is almost all water: a bay, a string of keys and a reef line south of Miami, with one mainland foothold at Convoy Point. June brings that water up to 85.4°F at its daily peak. It also brings long light, with the sun up at 6:27 am and down at 8:14 pm on June 15.
June is also wet. NOAA’s Miami normals put 10.51 inches of rain in an average June, more than May or July. Hurricane season opened on June 1 (our Florida overview carries the NOAA dates). Snorkelers and boaters who plan their mornings and book refundable still get a warm, bright trip. For the flight in, our Florida flights guide sorts the airports.

JUNE AT A GLANCE · BISCAYNE NATIONAL PARK
June gives Biscayne warm water and evenings that stay light past 8 pm, at the price of the wettest month of the three and an open hurricane season.
WET SEASON · HURRICANE SEASON OPEN · SEA AT 85.4°F DAILY PEAK
Go for: snorkeling and boat days in bathwater-warm sea, early starts at a 6:27 am sunrise, and long evening light on the bay.
Think twice before: booking a fixed-date, non-refundable boat trip, since measurable rain falls on about four June days in ten.

Biscayne National Park weather in June: average highs, lows and rain days
| June normal | Value |
|---|---|
| Average high | 89.3°F |
| Average low | 76.3°F |
| Precipitation | 10.51 in |
| Days with 0.10 in or more | 12.6 |
| Days with 1 in or more | 3.6 |
| Daylight on June 15 | 13 h 47 min |
| Sunrise / sunset, June 15 | 6:27 am / 8:14 pm EDT |
An average June here runs to 89.3°F in the afternoon and 76.3°F at night. Those are official 1991-2020 normals from NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information, read at station USW00012839 in Miami, north of the park. That makes them a real thermometer, not a reanalysis grid cell. The park is almost all open water, though, and open water swings less than a city in both directions. Treat every figure here as Miami’s, with the bay likely a touch milder on both ends.
Rain of at least a tenth of an inch falls on 12.6 days in an average June, about four days in ten. A downpour of an inch or more comes on 3.6 days, roughly one day in eight. In Florida’s wet season the pattern leans toward afternoon thunderstorms (our Florida overview covers the seasons). Put boat departures and snorkel stops in the morning and plan to be back at the dock by early afternoon.
Day and night sit just 13.0°F apart. Nothing in the bag has to handle cold. Pack for sun and rain instead: a lightweight long-sleeved shirt and a brimmed hat for the boat, a packable rain shell, and quick-dry clothes that survive a soaking. A sweater stays home when the average June night bottoms out at 76.3°F.
June 15 gets about 13 hours 47 minutes of daylight. Converted from sunrise-sunset.org’s UTC times to Eastern Daylight Time, the sun rises at 6:27 am and sets at 8:14 pm. You can be on the water by 7 am, run a full morning trip, sit out the midday heat, and still catch evening light over the bay after 7 pm.
Can you swim in Biscayne National Park in June? Sea temperature and what it feels like
Yes, and in warm water. The Open-Meteo Marine API puts the sea surface off the park at an average 85.4°F in June over 2015-2024. That figure is a mean of daily maxima, the warmest reading of each day, so it runs a shade warmer than a 24-hour average. We could not read a 24-hour series from our sources, so we give no second number. Expect early-morning water slightly below the headline.
Water in the mid-80s feels close to body-comfortable on entry, and most swimmers will need no wetsuit. A rash guard earns its place against the sun rather than the cold. In Biscayne most swimming happens off a boat, over the reefs and patches of the outer bay, so the water temperature matters most to people who book a snorkel trip or bring their own vessel.
We found no June wind or wave series in our sources, so we make no call on chop or swell. Hurricane season has been open since June 1, and our Florida safety guide covers storm planning. Before any boat day, check the National Weather Service marine forecast for Biscayne Bay the evening before and again at dawn.
How busy is Biscayne National Park in June? Crowds and prices
June falls in Florida’s wet season, outside the November-to-April dry run that built the state’s winter trade and after the spring-break peak. That calendar position is a fact. A price ranking would need data we don’t have: we found no monthly occupancy series or park visitation count, so we crown no month cheap or expensive. For typical costs by tier, see our Florida trip-cost guide.
We have no lead-time data for June boat seats or rooms, so we give no number of weeks. Book the boat trip as soon as your dates firm up, and book everything on refundable terms. An open hurricane season and a four-in-ten chance of a wet day are good reasons to keep your options loose. A two-night trip leaves room to move a boat day if the first morning turns.
We could not verify the current Miami-Dade lodging-tax rate, so we give no percentage. Check the final nightly total, taxes included, before you confirm. For bases near the park, our Florida where-to-stay guide covers the Miami side.
The boat is the one line where spending more changes the trip. Without a vessel, whether your own, rented or a guided tour, a June visit means the mainland shoreline at Convoy Point. With one, it opens the keys, the reef and warm water at 85.4°F. We could not verify current tour prices or June schedules. Check the operator listed on the NPS site before you budget.
Things to do in Biscayne National Park in June

June pairs sea at 85.4°F with a sunset at 8:14 pm. That gives long, warm days on the water: a snorkel in the morning, time ashore at midday, and a late boat ride home in evening light. May’s water sits 2.4°F cooler.
The Dante Fascell Visitor Center at Convoy Point, near Homestead, is the part of the park you can reach by car. Boca Chita Key has a small harbor and an ornamental lighthouse. Elliott Key, the largest island, has a campground and a trail through hardwood hammock. Off Key Biscayne stand the stilt houses of Stiltsville, and the Maritime Heritage Trail links shipwreck sites for snorkelers and divers. We could not verify current hours, docking fees or June boat schedules for these sites. The NPS Biscayne site lists them.
June narrows the gap between water and air. Water at 85.4°F sits just 3.9°F below the 89.3°F average high, so time in the sea is time out of the heat. On the keys, the wet season brings out mosquitoes in the hammocks. Pack repellent for Elliott Key and plan your trail walk for the breezier morning hours.
We could not verify the park’s June fee schedule, so we list nothing as free. The shoreline at Convoy Point is reachable by road, and the NPS fees page is where to check any charge before you drive. For other free and paid options across the state, see our Florida things-to-do guide.
Biscayne National Park in June: a two-day itinerary
Day one. Be at Convoy Point soon after the 6:27 am sunrise, while the air is still near its 76.3°F low. Board the morning boat for the keys or the reef, snorkel before noon, and aim to be back at the dock by early afternoon, when wet-season storms tend to build and the air climbs toward 89.3°F. Spend the hottest hours indoors at the visitor center exhibits or over lunch in Homestead. Come back to the bayfront around 7 pm for the last light before the 8:14 pm sunset.
Day two. Keep this day as the backup boat slot. If day one’s trip ran, spend the morning paddling the mangrove shoreline or book a second snorkel stop. If rain is forecast (an inch or more falls on 3.6 June days), move indoors and drive north to Miami, or take the road west to the Everglades once the storm cell clears. For a longer trip, our seven-day Florida itinerary fits Biscayne into a week.
Biscayne National Park in June vs May and July
| Normal | May | June | July |
|---|---|---|---|
| Average high | 86.7°F | 89.3°F | 90.6°F |
| Average low | 73.4°F | 76.3°F | 77.5°F |
| Precipitation | 6.32 in | 10.51 in | 7.36 in |
| Days with 0.10 in or more | 6.9 | 12.6 | 11.1 |
| Sea surface (daily maxima, Open-Meteo 2015-2024) | 83.0°F | 85.4°F | 88.2°F |
The air warms 2.6°F at the daily high from May to June, then just 1.3°F more into July, and the lows follow the same curve: 73.4°F, 76.3°F, 77.5°F. Rain does not follow it. June’s 10.51 inches is 4.19 more than May and 3.15 more than July, and its 12.6 wet days beat May by 5.7 and July by 1.5. The sea rises through all three months, from 83.0°F to 85.4°F to 88.2°F in the Open-Meteo Marine figures. Those sea readings come from a different source and period than NOAA’s air normals.
Moving four weeks earlier to May gets you fewer than half of June’s wet days and a trip before hurricane season opens on June 1. The cost is water 2.4°F cooler. Moving four weeks later to July gets you water 2.8°F warmer, 3.15 fewer inches of rain and 1.5 fewer wet days. The cost there is a 90.6°F average high and a trip deeper into the storm season.
Is June a good time to visit Biscayne National Park?
Yes, for snorkelers and boaters who want water in the mid-80s, can start at dawn, and can shift a boat day at short notice. No, for anyone with one fixed date, a non-refundable tour and no backup plan. Measurable rain on about four days in ten and an open hurricane season make a single-shot June trip a gamble.
If June is a no, pick May. It averages 6.32 inches of rain over 6.9 wet days, its sea still reaches 83.0°F at the daily peak, and it ends before hurricane season begins. Our Biscayne in May guide has the full month.
Against May, June adds 2.4°F of sea warmth, and against July it keeps the average high 1.3°F lower, placing it in the middle of the curve for a swimmer who wants warm water without July’s 90.6°F afternoons.
The last word
In June, the boat seat matters more than the room. Book it refundable, take the earliest departure, and keep a second morning free. The reward is in the numbers: even when the air bottoms out near 76.3°F before dawn, the bay’s daily peak runs 9.1°F warmer. That makes the last swim before the 8:14 pm sunset one of the most comfortable hours of the trip.
