The first half of December is the calendar’s best-kept arithmetic: the dry season’s weather has arrived (rain days drop to 12, humidity eases, evenings turn silk), the hurricane file is closed, the sea still holds 83°F from summer’s savings account, and the pricing hasn’t noticed yet, because American demand waits for the school bell.
Rooms that will command holiday premiums by the 20th run at November-adjacent prices, beaches carry off-season space, and resorts are in full holiday dress rehearsal. If your dates are flexible and your budget attentive, this window and November before it are the smartest two fortnights on the Jamaican calendar.
Christmas and New Year in Jamaica: rates, minimum stays and booking windows
From roughly the 20th, the island runs its Super Bowl: the diaspora flies home, American families arrive by the planeload, and the peak fortnight prices like a different country, with the year’s highest rates, minimum-stay requirements at the marquee resorts, and Christmas-dinner supplements in the fine print. What the premium buys is real: the island in full celebratory mode, Boxing Day and New Year’s parties from resort galas to beach sound-systems, and weather at its dependable best.
The rules of engagement: book by early fall, read the holiday-supplement line before confirming, and land before the 22nd, because the transfer corridor and MBJ’s arrival hall both hit their annual maximum in the final pre-Christmas days.
Jamaica weather in December: the numbers

And the island’s own Christmas — Grand Market on Christmas Eve, when towns stay up shopping and celebrating all night — is worth building an evening around if you’re near any town center: it’s the holiday as Jamaica actually keeps it, and visitors are welcome spectators.
