One entry condition applies to every month. The U.S. Department of State’s Mexico advisory, reissued May 29, 2026, lists Baja California Sur at Level 2 (exercise increased caution) due to terrorism and crime, with no specific restrictions on travel for U.S. government employees in the state.

Every air figure here comes from Mexico’s national weather service, the Servicio Meteorologico Nacional (SMN, part of CONAGUA). They are 1991-2020 normals from its own La Paz station, number 03074 (DGE), in town. That is a real thermometer, and it represents the malecon and the bay. It does not measure the outer coast or a boat deck, so those spots can feel different. The July normals: an average high of 100.8°F, a low of 74.8°F and 0.46 inches of precipitation.
The SMN counts 3.4 days of measurable rain in an average July, out of a month that totals only 0.46 inches. The SMN sheet does not publish its cutoff for a rain day, so we do not set that count beside a U.S. station’s tally. Read it as a month with a few wet days among many dry ones. Check the forecast the morning of any boat trip.
Between the 100.8°F afternoon and the 74.8°F night there are 26.0 degrees. Nights stay warm enough that you will not need a jacket on land. Pack a long-sleeved sun shirt, a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen and a refillable water bottle, plus one light layer for air-conditioned rooms and boat cabins.
Daylight lasts 13 hours 31 minutes on July 15. Our source, sunrise-sunset.org, gives sun times in UTC, and we converted them to Mazatlan time, the clock La Paz keeps. Sea surface off La Paz averages 83.5°F in July, according to the Open-Meteo Marine API’s 2015-2024 average. That figure is a mean of daily maxima, the warmest reading of each day, so it runs a shade warmer than a 24-hour mean. Other sea-temperature tables can read a touch lower, and we do not pick between them. It comes from the marine API, not from the SMN station.
At 83.5°F you can get in without a wetsuit and stay in for a long swim or a full snorkel. Because the number is a daytime peak, expect an early-morning entry to feel a little cooler than that. A rash guard is worth packing for the sun on your back more than for the water.
Our sources carry no wind or wave figures for July, so we give none and make no claim about chop. Operators can tell you the sea state on the morning you sail, and that is the day to ask.
How busy is La Paz in July? Crowds and prices
We found no occupancy series and no monthly room-rate series for La Paz, so we rank July against no other month on price or crowds. Ask for a quote on the same room for June, July and August. Three quotes will tell you more than any ranking we could offer.

The one line where spending more changes July itself is the room. With nights that stay at 74.8°F and afternoons that reach 100.8°F, air-conditioning you can rely on matters more than a view. Ask about it by name before you pay a deposit.
Things to do in La Paz in July
July gives you warm water and mostly dry days together: a sea at 83.5°F and 3.4 days of measurable rain. It does not give you whale sharks. Swimming with them in the Bahia de La Paz refuge is regulated by a federal plan covering three seasons between 2026 and 2029. The 2026-2027 season runs from October 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027, so July falls outside it, and we did not read the dates of the later seasons.
Isla Espiritu Santo, in the Bay of La Paz, has been a national park since 2007 and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Islands and Protected Areas of the Gulf of California” since 2005. Day trips by boat from La Paz are the standard way to reach it, and many are built around snorkeling with sea lions. We could not verify the park’s entry fee or current boat fares, so no price appears. Confirm both with the operator.
On the water, July comes down to the gap between deck and sea. The air averages 100.8°F in the afternoon and the sea 83.5°F, so the water sits 17.3 degrees below the air and becomes the cool place. The earliest departure of the day gets you the most time in it before the peak heat arrives.
We have no verified list of free entries for July. The malecon along the bay is a public waterfront promenade, and walking it in the first and last hours of light costs nothing.

Day one, on foot. Walk the malecon at first light, when the air is closest to the 74.8°F night low. Have breakfast, then be indoors by mid-morning, because the afternoon high averages 100.8°F. Day two, on the water. Take the earliest boat you can find to Isla Espiritu Santo, the national park in the bay, and confirm the departure the evening before. Swim and snorkel through the morning, then head back before the afternoon heat. If the weather turns, swap the two days. The boat waits for a dry morning, and the waterfront walk takes the day you freed.

The average high barely moves across the three months: 99.3°F, 100.8°F, 100.0°F. The low does the moving. It climbs from 67.8°F to 74.8°F to 77.4°F, so July’s nights run 7.0 degrees warmer than June’s. Rain days step up from 0.8 to 3.4 to 6.3 by the SMN’s count.
Moving four weeks earlier to June buys the driest weather in the comparison, 0.02 inches, and cooler nights, but the sea drops to 81.4°F. Moving four weeks later to August buys 86.1°F water, 2.6 degrees warmer than July’s, and costs you 1.79 inches of rain over 6.3 days. Neither shift brings back a cool afternoon, since highs stay near 100°F, and neither one falls inside the whale shark season.
Is July a good time to visit La Paz?
Yes for swimmers, snorkelers and anyone happy to spend the hottest hours in air-conditioning: July offers 83.5°F water and only 3.4 rain days. No for anyone who wants to walk, bike or sightsee through the middle of the day against a 100.8°F average high, and no for anyone coming mainly for whale sharks.
