NEGRIL · NOVEMBER · 18.27° N
November is the month Negril’s rain gauge calms down. Rainfall drops to 2.02 inches for the month, from 4.39 inches in October, and the count of days recording measurable rain falls from 11.9 to 4.4. Daytime highs hold at 83.3°F, the sea off the West End still reads 86.3°F, and the Atlantic hurricane season closes on the 30th. The trade is light: 11 hours 18 minutes of daylight on the 15th, with the sun gone by 5:37 p.m.
Those four weeks sit between two different Negrils, an October still emptying clouds over the cliffs and a December that dries out further and fills up for winter. The normals below carry their source in the text, including the caveat that matters most: they are reanalysis values for a grid cell, not readings from a thermometer on the ground at an airport.

THE MONTH AT A GLANCE · NEGRIL · NOVEMBER
November hands you near-summer water at 86.3°F with roughly a third of October’s rain, in exchange for a 5:37 p.m. sunset and a hurricane season that runs to the 30th.
HIGH 83.3°F · 4.4 WET DAYS · SEA 86.3°F · SUNSET 5:37 P.M.
Go for: swimming and snorkeling in 86.3°F water, full outdoor days after October’s 11.9 wet ones, and long afternoons on Seven Mile Beach before an early sunset.
Think twice before: booking non-refundable, since November still sits inside the season NOAA dates June 1 to November 30.

Negril weather in November: average highs, lows and rain days

| Days with 0.10 in or more | 4.4 |
| Days with 1.00 in or more | 0.2 |
| Sea surface (mean of daily maxima) | 86.3°F |

Negril’s November normals here come from Open-Meteo’s ECMWF ERA5 reanalysis, 1991-2020, computed for the grid cell at 18.2683° N, 78.3475° W. That distinction is worth keeping in mind: it is a model’s reconstruction of one square of coast, not a station log kept by a thermometer at an airport. The values it returns are an average high of 83.3°F, an average low of 76.6°F, and 2.02 inches of rain spread across the month.
Measurable rain falls on 4.4 days in an average November, close to one day in seven. That reads on the ground as a shower that crosses Negril and leaves the sand steaming, rather than a day lost indoors. October records 11.9 such days, so the same trip taken four weeks earlier hands you wet weather on most of its afternoons.
Day and night sit 6.7 degrees apart, 83.3°F against 76.6°F, which is too narrow for anything warm to justify space in a bag. A thin long-sleeve layer covers air-conditioned dining rooms and a boat ride home after dark, quick-dry fabric handles the humidity, and a dry bag covers the shower that arrives on one afternoon in seven. Our packing list has the full kit.
On November 15 the sun rises at 6:18 a.m. and sets at 5:37 p.m. Jamaica time, for 11 hours 18 minutes of daylight (the island stays on UTC-5 all year and never moves its clocks). Anything you want to do in daylight has to be finished by 5:37, including the drive back along the unlit stretches of the West End road.
Can you swim in Negril in November? Sea temperature and what it feels like
Sea surface off Negril averages 86.3°F in November in the Open-Meteo Marine record, taken over 2015-2024. One nuance travels with that figure: it is the mean of daily maxima, so it runs a shade warmer than a true 24-hour average. Read it as what the top of the water reaches on a normal afternoon, not as what greets you at seven in the morning.
Nobody stands knee-deep working up to 86.3°F. The water runs about 3 degrees warmer than the average November day, so the only chill comes on climbing out into the breeze, and an hour with a mask costs you nothing in body heat. Children stay in until somebody calls them out, and an afternoon float lasts as long as the light does.
We could not verify a wind or wave series for Negril, so we give no figures for swell or for the afternoon breeze on the cliffs. The storm calendar is dated: NOAA runs the Atlantic hurricane season from June 1 to November 30, with the peak on September 10 and most activity between mid-August and mid-October, which places November in the tail of the window rather than its heart. Our monthly risk page carries the record, and the Melissa update covers the aftermath.
How busy is Negril in November? Crowds, booking and the storm window
We verified no occupancy series and no monthly room rates for Negril, so we crown no month cheapest and quote no nightly figure. What we can date is the calendar. NOAA’s hurricane season ends on November 30, and by then Negril’s rainfall has already fallen to 2.02 inches for the month against 4.39 in October. Both of those land inside the same four weeks.
Book refundable while the month still sits inside the storm window, and read the cancellation clause more carefully than the deposit. Lead time is another thing our sources could not give us: no booking-window data for Jamaica came back, so we name no number of weeks. If one particular room on the cliffs is the reason for the trip, hold it early and keep it cancellable.
We could not verify Jamaica’s lodging-tax rate or any tourism levy amount, so no percentage and no per-night charge appears above. Our trip-cost page holds what we have been able to price, and the know-before-you-go guide covers the paperwork side.
One line is worth paying up on in November, and it is roof. A room with a covered terrace, or a restaurant table under solid shelter, turns those 4.4 wet days into 4.4 forgettable ones instead of four retreats to a bed. Everything else in the budget behaves the same in November as it does in March.
Things to do in Negril in November

A whole day built outdoors survives contact with November. Four point four wet days against October’s 11.9 is the difference between planning a boat trip and hoping for one. The sea, meanwhile, has barely stepped down: 86.3°F sits 2.1 degrees below October’s 88.4 and 2.0 degrees above December’s 84.3, so the swimming season is still the warm one.
The two halves of town are the beach and the cliffs. Seven Mile Beach runs north from the roundabout along Long Bay and Bloody Bay, flat and swimmable end to end. South of the roundabout the West End road follows the limestone out to the Negril Lighthouse. We could not verify current admission prices or opening hours for any cliff-side spot or reserve in Negril, so we quote none. The island-wide list covers what sits further afield.
Water temperature barely notices the month. Air does. With the sea at 86.3°F and the average day topping out at 83.3°F, the cliffs are warmer to jump into than to stand on, and a wet swimsuit in the breeze is the one cold thing in Negril. The 5:37 p.m. sunset also moves the last cliff swim into mid-afternoon rather than evening.
Free in November comes down to the shoreline and the light: the walk up Seven Mile Beach, and the sunset watched from the public stretch of the West End road, which needs nothing booked. We could not verify entry fees at Negril’s beach access points, so we name no free entrance by name.
Negril in November: a two-day itinerary
Day one runs on the beach. Sunrise lands at 6:18 a.m., so a 7 o’clock walk on Seven Mile Beach costs you nothing in heat. Swim from 9 to 11 while the 86.3°F water is at its calmest, eat under a roof through the hottest hours, then take the second swim at 4 p.m. Move to the West End by 5 for the 5:37 sunset, and eat afterward.
Day two belongs to the cliffs and whatever boat you booked, with the same 5:37 cutoff on the water. If the shower turns up, and it does on 4.4 days in an average November, it tends to pass rather than settle: move the boat to the morning, put lunch in the middle of it, and keep the drive back to the beach side inside daylight.
Negril in November vs October and December
| Measure | October | November | December |
|---|---|---|---|
| Average high | 84.2°F | 83.3°F | 82.6°F |
| Average low | 77.8°F | 76.6°F | 75.2°F |
| Precipitation | 4.39 in | 2.02 in | 0.90 in |
| Days with 0.10 in or more | 11.9 | 4.4 | 1.7 |
| Sea surface (daily maxima) | 88.4°F | 86.3°F | 84.3°F |
October buys 0.9 degrees of extra warmth by day and 2.1 degrees in the water, and charges 11.9 wet days and 4.39 inches for them. December dries the month out to 0.90 inches and 1.7 wet days, with the high down to 82.6°F and the sea at 84.3. November sits between the two on every line, closer to December on rain and closer to October on water.
Shifting four weeks forward buys dryness and a closed storm season, and costs 2.0 degrees of sea plus a walk into winter demand. Shifting four weeks back returns the warmest water of the three, at the price of nearly triple the wet days. Neither neighbor beats November on both counts, and no month here beats it on the combination.
Is November a good time to visit Negril?
For swimmers, snorkelers and anyone who wants outdoor days that hold up, yes. At 86.3°F the water asks nothing of you, and 4.4 wet days leave most of the trip dry. The answer turns to no for travelers locked into non-refundable dates, because the season NOAA closes on November 30 still covers the whole month.
If that risk is the deciding factor, take December: 0.90 inches of rain, 1.7 wet days, the storm season finished, and a sea still holding 84.3°F. You pay for it in company and in 2.0 degrees of water, and the case for the whole year is laid out in our 12-month verdict.
Among these three months, November is the only one that keeps the sea above 86°F while holding the month’s rain to just over 2 inches.
The last word
The decision that matters in Negril in November is refundability, not the forecast. One figure supports that more than any other: an average November records 0.2 of a day with an inch or more of rain, which works out to roughly one genuinely soaking day every five Novembers. Hold a cancellable rate through the 30th, take the second swim at four, and be off the West End road by 5:37 p.m.
