Navagio is the Shipwreck Beach of Zakynthos, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece and an island that lives mainly on tourism. The simplest way to plan your visit is a boat tour from Zakynthos Town harbour or from the north. When you book, ask your operator about current terms for the beach itself.

Which Shipwreck Beach is Navagio?
Plenty of beaches carry the name. Hawaii has at least two, one on Kauai and one on Lanai, and the Tomb Raider video game has one of its own. The one this guide covers is on Zakynthos.
When you search or book, type "Navagio" along with "Zakynthos" or "Zante." That keeps tours, maps and search results pointed at Greece instead of a beach in Kauai.
What is the coast of Zakynthos like?
Picture the island in two halves. Most of the beaches and towns sit on the south and east coasts, so that is where you'll likely stay and swim. The west and north coasts are extremely mountainous, with cliffs dropping many hundreds of feet into the sea.
How do you get to Navagio?
Book a boat tour. Many depart from Zakynthos Town harbour, which keeps planning simple for first-timers. Others leave from Agios Nikolaos and lean harder on the Blue Caves, and a smaller tour from there also means fewer crowds.
Before you pay, ask each operator three things: whether the itinerary includes Navagio, how long the boat stays there, and whether swimming time is built in. Both July and August bring crowds.
Your departure point decides how you reach the dock:
- Zakynthos Town harbour is a 15-minute walk from the main KTEL public bus station, which has buses to resorts like Laganas and Kalamaki.
- Agios Nikolaos has no public transportation to or from its port. It is roughly 19 miles (30 km) from the airport, and public buses don't serve the area, so plan on a car.
A rental car also helps for west-coast swims and northern coves. Some roads are in poor condition, so drive carefully and wear your seatbelt.
How do you get to Zakynthos?
Daily flights from Athens take 45 minutes. Dionysios Solomos Airport (ZTH) is about 2 miles (3 km) from Zakynthos Town, and you can get into town by bus, taxi or private car. A bus to town stops outside the terminal in the Arrivals area.
From the mainland, ferries leave from Kyllini (also spelled Kilini) in the Peloponnese, and no ferries run to Zakynthos from the Athens ports of Piraeus, Rafina or Lavrio. Schedules can change with passenger traffic, so check the timetable before you go. Greece uses the euro, and major credit cards are accepted for accommodation, restaurants and rentals.
When is the best time to visit?
The tourist season runs from May to the end of October, and each month has its own mood.
May is quiet, with hot days, fresh evenings and few tourists, which suits long, peaceful beach days. In June the heat arrives, the sea becomes ideal for swimming and the beaches start to fill. July is when tourism turns massive, with visitors from all over Europe. August is the peak: the island is full, especially of Italian travelers who pack the beaches by day and the clubs by night. Rain is rare from June to August, so a boat day is easy to schedule.
September is the sweet spot for many people. The beaches are less crowded, the weather is pleasant and midday is perfect for the beach. October cools, and rainy days become more common.
What can you pair with Navagio?
With a spare afternoon, head up to the Bochali viewpoint above Zakynthos Town, which is great for photos, especially late in the day. The Castle of Zakynthos is in Bochali too. Admission is €5 full and €3 reduced, and it is open Wednesday to Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in summer, closed Tuesday. For a calm last evening, go to Zakynthos Town harbour and watch the sunset from Bochali.
Two more sunset spots are worth the drive: the Kambi area in the west, known for dramatic sunset views, and the Keri lighthouse, a classic stop with a magnificent sunset.
On a hot day, the Zakynthos Museum offers a break indoors. It sits in the city center at Solomos Square, an easy walk, taxi or drive. General admission is €10 and reduced is €5. Summer hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., closed Monday and Tuesday. In winter it's open Wednesday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., closed Sunday through Tuesday. Entry is free on March 6, April 18, May 18, October 28 and the last weekend of September.
For a five-day trip, give Navagio your one boat day, then spend two days on beaches, one on viewpoints and sights, and one repeating whatever you loved most.
