Weeki Wachee Springs in November: Weather, Crowds and Whether You Can Swim

In November the air over Weeki Wachee averages a 77.9°F afternoon and a 52.3°F dawn, while the spring water underneath runs the same temperature it ran in July. That is the whole calculation for this month. You are not choosing a warmer or colder spring, you are choosing how it feels to climb out of it and stand on a boardwalk in a wet swimsuit.

Treat it as a weekend rather than a drive-and-go morning if the budget allows. The state counts 255 parking spaces at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, and when the lot fills the gate closes, so a bed within easy reach buys you the first hours of the day. For where this month sits in the wider Florida year, our season guide takes the whole state at once.

November gives you comfortable air, 1.59 inches of rain and about three wet days, in exchange for mornings near 52°F and daylight that quits at 5:37 p.m.

Go for: afternoons warm enough to swim and dry off, the driest month of the three around it, and a paddle launch you can use without August heat.

Think twice before: planning a 9 a.m. swim. The average November morning starts at 52.3°F and one night in the month drops to 32°F or below.

One note before the numbers. Weeki Wachee has no season of its own underground, so everything below describes the air, the light and the lot. If you want the park itself rather than the date, start with the October page or the state-level things to do guide.

Every figure here comes from NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information, the 1991-2020 monthly normals for station USW00012818, Brooksville Hernando County Airport. That is a real thermometer, not a reanalysis grid cell, and it sits about 27 miles (44 km) from the spring. Read 77.9°F, 52.3°F and 1.59 inches as the normals for this corner of the Nature Coast, not as a reading taken at the vent.

Three days in an average November collect at least a tenth of an inch of rain. That works out to roughly one wet day in ten, and the month’s whole total is under an inch and a half. In practice a November shower is a twenty-minute interruption rather than a lost afternoon, and the boardwalk planks dry fast once the sun comes back. You do not need a rain plan for the trip, only for one slot of it.

The gap between that 77.9°F high and that 52.3°F low is 25.6°F, and it lands entirely inside one day. Pack for two climates: a fleece or hoodie and long pants for the first two hours, shorts for the middle of the day. Add a second towel and a dry shirt specifically for after the swim, because the thing November cools is not the water, it is you, standing in the shade afterward.

On November 15 the sun rises at 6:52 a.m. and sets at 5:37 p.m. local time, giving 10 hours 46 minutes of daylight with the clocks already back on Eastern Standard Time. The practical effect is an early curtain: the light goes flat well before dinner, and anything you wanted to paddle needs to start by mid-afternoon. Plan the day backward from 5:37 p.m. rather than forward from breakfast.

How warm is Weeki Wachee Springs in November?

The month runs between 77.9°F and 52.3°F on average, a spread of 25.6°F. October’s spread is 22.8°F, so November is not simply cooler, it swings harder inside a single day. A 2 p.m. arrival and an 8 a.m. arrival are two different trips in the same week, and nothing on the ground tells you that until you are standing there.

So dress in two acts. Morning wants long sleeves and closed shoes for the boardwalk and the parking lot, plus something warm enough to wait in while the sun clears the treeline. By early afternoon the same person is in a swimsuit with the fleece knotted around the waist. Families running this with kids will want that spare dry layer in the bag rather than in the car, and our Florida with kids guide has the rest of the packing logic.

One night in an average November falls to 32°F or below at the Brooksville station. That is rare enough to ignore when you book and real enough to check the forecast for the week you travel. As for the water itself, we could not verify a temperature reading for the Weeki Wachee vent, so we give no figure for it. What we can say is that a first-magnitude Florida spring does not run on a seasonal curve the way the air does.

How busy is Weeki Wachee Springs in November?

November opens Florida’s dry season, the stretch from November through April that the state calendar treats as the good half of the year. That means competition from every other outdoor plan in the region rather than from swimmers specifically. We found no monthly occupancy series and no room-rate series for Hernando County, so we crown no month cheap and no month expensive here.

What does move is the lot. Those 255 spaces are the real reservation system at this park: the state’s own inventory notes that when they fill, the gate closes. A weekday in November behaves nothing like a Saturday, and a Saturday behaves nothing like a Saturday you arrive to at 11 a.m. If your dates are flexible, take the weeknight. Where to stay in Florida covers the wider bed map.

We could not verify Hernando County’s tourist development tax rate, so no percentage appears in our cost math for this trip. We also could not verify the park’s entrance fee or its gate hours: the Florida State Parks site returned an error to our automated reads on September 11, 2026, and we will not carry over a price from another park. Budget the rest of the drive with our Florida trip cost guide and confirm the gate directly.

There is one place where spending more genuinely changes November, and it is the bed. A night close enough to reach the entrance at opening converts a 52.3°F morning from a problem into the quiet hour of the day, with the warm part still ahead of you. A day trip driven in from Tampa or Orlando arrives exactly when everyone else does, and the driving guide explains why Florida distances flatter nobody.

Things to do in Weeki Wachee Springs in November

November is the month that lets you swim and then walk around comfortably afterward. October’s 84.5°F average high makes the swim easy and the midday boardwalk sticky. December’s 73.0°F makes the walk lovely and the exit from the water an act of will. At 77.9°F November sits between them, with fewer wet days than October’s four and less than half its rainfall.

What is actually on site, counted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in its 2024 Recreational Facilities Inventory: Weeki Wachee Springs State Park holds 1 designated swimming area, 1 canoe, kayak and tube launch, and those 255 parking spaces. Florida law puts the spring in a protected class called Outstanding Florida Springs, which under Statute 373.802(5) covers every historic first-magnitude spring plus six more named by hand in the text.

The single swim area and the single launch mean November changes the sequence, not the menu. Go in the water in the warm middle of the day and paddle around it, rather than paddling at 9 a.m. and swimming at 4 p.m. with the light already going. The water will feel identical to an August swimmer. The air at 52.3°F will not, and that 25.6°F daily swing is what decides the order of your day.

We promise nothing free for this month, because we could not verify the park’s fee structure, and we promise no manatees either: the state wildlife agency’s manatee pages render client-side and gave us no count we could stand behind. If winter manatees are the reason for the trip rather than a bonus, read our manatee guide first and pick your spring accordingly.

Weeki Wachee Springs in November: a two-day itinerary

Day one, built around the light. Be at the entrance early enough to take a space out of the 255 rather than negotiate for one, and spend the cold first hour walking rather than swimming. Late morning, use the canoe, kayak and tube launch while the air climbs toward its 77.9°F average. Swim in the designated area at the warmest stretch of the afternoon, then dry off and be done by 5:37 p.m., when the sun sets on November 15.

Day two repeats the good part with less clock anxiety: one long swim, one slow loop, lunch off site, back for the last warm hour. If rain lands on you, remember it lands on three days a month on average, and it rarely holds all day. Flip the order, take the walk while it passes, and keep the swim for the clear window. Two nights is the right length here, and a third only pays if you add a second spring to the drive.

Weeki Wachee Springs in November vs October and December

Measure October November December

Average low 61.7°F 52.3°F 47.6°F
Precipitation 2.79 in 1.59 in 2.56 in
Days with 0.10 in or more 4.0 3.0 3.4
Day-night spread 22.8°F 25.6°F 25.4°F
Spring water no seasonal change no seasonal change no seasonal change

All three columns come from the same NOAA station and the same 1991-2020 period, so they compare cleanly. November is 6.6°F cooler by day than October and 4.9°F warmer than December, and its mornings sit 9.4°F below October’s. It is also the driest of the three by a wide margin: 1.59 inches against 2.79 in October and 2.56 in December, and three wet days against four and 3.4. The water column is the same in all three.

Shift four weeks earlier and you buy a 61.7°F morning that makes an 8 a.m. swim pleasant, at the cost of an extra wet day and more than an inch of additional rain. Shift four weeks later and you get quieter roads and 73.0°F afternoons, which is warm enough to walk in and marginal for getting out of spring water with any dignity. November is the compromise that keeps the swim and drops the rain.

Is November a good time to visit Weeki Wachee Springs?

Yes for anyone who wants the water and the walk in the same day, and yes for anyone traveling midweek who would rather not gamble on 255 spaces. It is a weaker month for early risers with fixed schedules, for very young swimmers who chill fast, and for anyone whose only free morning starts at 8 a.m. with the thermometer reading 52°F.

If that describes your trip, move it forward rather than back. October’s 61.7°F lows make the morning swim work, and you pay for it with 2.79 inches of rain and a fourth wet day. December takes the crowds down further but its 47.6°F lows and 73.0°F highs push the swim into a narrow midday window. October is the better trade for a swim-first trip, and the October page runs the numbers.

No other month in this stretch gives you an afternoon near 78°F and only 1.59 inches of rain across the whole four weeks.

The last word

Book the weeknight, arrive before the lot decides for you, and put the swim in the middle of the day instead of the start. The one number worth keeping in your head after that: only 0.4 days in an average November record an inch of rain or more, which is roughly two Novembers in five with a single real soaking. Everything else the month throws at you dries before you reach the car.
