SILVER SPRINGS · NOVEMBER · MARION COUNTY, FLORIDA
Silver Springs in November runs to a normal high of 77.3°F and a normal low of 57.1°F, with 1.76 inches of rain across the entire month. Those are air figures from NOAA’s 1991-2020 normals, and the spring pays them no attention: the water leaving the vent has no season. What November changes is everything above the surface.
The trade is light. On November 15 the sun is up for 10 hours 43 minutes, rising at 6:51 am and setting at 5:34 pm, so an afternoon that starts at three has about two hours in it. Put the park early in the day and keep the drive for the dark end. Where this month sits in the wider Florida year is a separate question.

Silver Springs weather in November: average highs, lows and rain days

The normals come from NOAA NCEI’s 1991-2020 series for station USW00012819, the thermometer at Leesburg Municipal Airport, about 27 miles (44 km) from the spring. That station gives November a 77.3°F average high and a 57.1°F average low. Every figure here is airport air measured in a standard shelter, not water and not the shaded bank at 7 am, and a reanalysis grid cell would read differently again.
Rainfall totals 1.76 inches for the month, and the shape of it matters more than the total. An average November records 2.5 days with at least 0.10 inch, so measurable rain lands roughly one day in twelve. A full inch or more falls on 0.3 day. Call it one November in three with a real soaking somewhere inside it, and the other two with nothing worse than a shower that passes while you finish lunch.
Between night and afternoon the thermometer moves 20.2 degrees, from 57.1°F to 77.3°F. Pack both ends of that: a fleece or light jacket for the first two hours after sunrise, a T-shirt for the middle of the day, sleeves again once the light starts going. Nothing in the month asks for a winter coat, and nothing in it forgives arriving in shorts at seven in the morning.
On November 15 the sun clears the horizon at 6:51 am and sets at 5:34 pm, standard time, for 10 hours 43 minutes of daylight. Photographers give up the long October evening and get a sunrise reachable without a 5 am alarm. If the day holds one outdoor stretch, take the two hours before noon and treat 4:30 pm as the end of usable light.
How warm is Silver Springs in November?
The month’s ceiling and floor sit 20.2 degrees apart, 77.3°F by day and 57.1°F at night. Measured against October’s 84.5°F average high, the afternoons give up 7.2 degrees. That single change is what makes noon at Silver Springs walkable rather than something to be survived under a hat.
In practice you leave the car in a long-sleeve layer and carry it by eleven. The first boardwalk hour is genuinely cool, the middle of the day sits in shorts territory, and the air starts dropping again around four. Families should count a second layer per person rather than one spare for the group, and our Florida with kids guide handles the rest of the packing argument.
Freezing mornings: we found no count of sub-32°F nights in the November normals we read, so we give no number for them. What the record does give is that 57.1°F average low, 25 degrees clear of freezing, with December’s low at 52.0°F for comparison. Nothing in those figures argues for gloves.
How busy is Silver Springs in November? Crowds, prices and the demand peak
November opens Florida’s dry season, November through April, and closes the Atlantic hurricane season on November 30. For a spring in Marion County that means competition: every trip that waited out the summer is now on the road at once. We found no occupancy series and no monthly room-rate series for the area, so we crown no month cheap and no month expensive.
What we can count is capacity. Florida’s 2024 facilities inventory gives Silver Springs State Park 1,686 parking spaces, and when the lot fills, the gate closes. That number, more than any schedule, decides a bright Saturday. The park also holds 10 cabins, a thin stock for a month containing a national holiday, so book those weeks rather than days ahead and treat the Thanksgiving weekend as the peak inside the peak.
On money we have to be plain. We could not verify the Marion County lodging-tax rate, so no percentage appears. We could not read the park’s entrance fee or its opening hours either: the Florida State Parks site answers our automated reads with a 403 error. Call the park the week you drive, and use our Florida cost guide for the tiers around the gate.
The one upgrade that changes the month is sleeping inside the gate. A cabin puts you on the boardwalk before the first cars arrive and before the air climbs toward 77.3°F. With 10 cabins against 1,686 parking spaces, the quiet hour goes to whoever slept closest. Meals, gear and the drive itself cost what they cost in any month, and where to sleep in Florida covers the highway alternatives.
Things to do in Silver Springs in November

What November allows that August does not is the middle of the day. At a 77.3°F normal high, the full length of the boardwalk is a comfortable walk at one in the afternoon, and at 1.76 inches for the month, the odds of losing that afternoon to rain are the lowest of the three months around it.
Silver Springs State Park is the whole show: 4,775 feet of boardwalk, 6.3 miles of paddling trail and 10 cabins, on a lot with 1,686 spaces. On September 11, 2026, the USGS gauge at station 02239500 measured 264 cubic feet per second leaving the vent. That volume is why the water is clear: it is replaced faster than it can cloud. One caution on boats, the state inventory we read lists three canoe, kayak and tube launches in one entry and none in another, so confirm the launch with the park before you strap anything to the roof.
At 264 cubic feet per second, the spring runs the same in November as in July. The air does not, and the gap between the two is the season: 7.2 degrees less warmth overhead than October, 4.9 degrees more than December. That gap decides whether contact with the water reads as relief or as a jolt. The same inventory lists no designated swimming area here, so the question stays largely theoretical. Our manatee guide covers the springs where getting in is the point.
On what is free this month, we could not read the park’s fee schedule at all, so we name no price and no free day. One thing costs nothing to know: Florida law carries a protected class called Outstanding Florida Springs, covering every historic first-magnitude spring as the Florida Geological Survey determines them, plus six springs named by hand in Florida Statutes 373.802(5).
Silver Springs in November: a two-day itinerary
Day one starts at 6:51 am if you slept nearby and at whatever the drive allows if you did not. Walk the boardwalk first, while the air is still near 57.1°F and the lot is still mostly empty. Give the middle of the day, the warm stretch at 77.3°F, to the 6.3 miles of paddling trail, and be off the water by four. Sunset is 5:34 pm and the light drops quickly after five.
Day two takes what the first missed: the far end of the boardwalk, a slower second pass at the vent when the sun is high enough to reach the bottom, then an unhurried lunch. If the sky turns, the numbers help. With 2.5 days at 0.10 inch or more, a passing shower is the likely version and it just moves the paddle to the afternoon. The 0.3 day at an inch or more is the version that becomes a driving day, and our getting-around guide covers the roads.
Silver Springs in November vs October and December
| Month | Average high | Average low | Precipitation | Days 0.10 in or more |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| October | 84.5°F | 66.1°F | 2.62 in | 4.0 |
| November | 77.3°F | 57.1°F | 1.76 in | 2.5 |
| December | 72.4°F | 52.0°F | 2.17 in | 3.6 |
Set the three together and November is the mild middle. Its 77.3°F average high sits 7.2 degrees under October and 4.9 degrees over December. Nights move faster: 57.1°F against October’s 66.1°F is a 9.0-degree drop in four weeks, still 5.1 degrees above December’s 52.0°F. Rain is where the month wins outright, 1.76 inches against 2.62 and 2.17, with 2.5 wet days against 4.0 and 3.6. The spring itself, at 264 cubic feet per second, is identical in all three.
Shift back four weeks to October and you buy 7.2 degrees of afternoon warmth, paid in 0.86 inch more rain, 1.5 more wet days and a busier gate. Shift forward to December and you keep cool air but lose the dryness, with mornings starting at 52.0°F. For a trip built on walking and paddling rather than on getting wet, November is the one to book.
Is November a good time to visit Silver Springs?
Yes, if the day is spent upright: walking, paddling, photographing, watching the water from the bank. No, if the plan was a swim, because the state inventory lists no designated swimming area at the park. And no again if you wanted the kind of heat that makes cold water feel like a reward, since 77.3°F is pleasant well before it is punishing.
If the answer came out no, October is the month to take: 84.5°F days and 66.1°F nights, at a cost of 2.62 inches of rain and 4.0 wet days, and our October guide runs those figures in full. December goes the other direction, 72.4°F by day and 52.0°F by night, with more rain than November and less warmth than October.
Among the three, only November pairs the lowest rainfall, 1.76 inches, with afternoons still in the high 70s and a lot that has not yet filled by ten on a weekday.
The last word
Decide this month by the light rather than by the temperature: with sunset at 5:34 pm on November 15 and 10 hours 43 minutes of daylight, a late start costs more than a cool morning ever will. Book one of the 10 cabins if you want the boardwalk before the cars, otherwise aim to be parked by nine, and save the final hour for one of the park’s five observation platforms. Confirm the gate hours and the entrance fee with the park before you drive, since we could not read either.
