SILVER SPRINGS · JUNE · 1991-2020 NORMALS
Silver Springs in June reads hot and wet on paper. NOAA’s 1991-2020 normals put the average afternoon at 90.7°F and the month’s rainfall at 6.98 inches, spread across 10.7 days that record at least a tenth of an inch. None of that touches the water. The vent was pushing 264 cubic feet per second when the USGS gauge last read it, and that volume arrives in June the way it arrives in January.
So the June question is the air around the spring, and the hour you show up. The state counts 1,686 parking spaces at Silver Springs State Park, and when they fill the gate closes. A June trip here, the paddling, the boardwalk, the evening light that runs past eight, gets built around those two facts.

THE MONTH AT A GLANCE · SILVER SPRINGS · JUNE
Come for the long evenings and the water, plan the day around a 90.7°F afternoon and rain on roughly one day in three, and arrive early on weekends before the 1,686 parking spaces run out.
HIGH 90.7°F · LOW 73.1°F · 6.98 IN OF RAIN · 14H 03M OF DAYLIGHT ON JUNE 15
Go for: 14 hours of daylight, 6.3 miles of paddling trail, 4,775 feet of boardwalk and water that ignores the calendar.
Think twice before: booking a swimming day. The state’s 2024 facilities inventory lists no designated swimming area at Silver Springs State Park.

Which months suit a wider Florida trip belongs to our state-wide calendar, and what a week costs sits in the trip-cost guide. What June’s air does to a day at the spring, how the month measures against May and July, and when to book a cabin: those are the dated questions, and the normals below start the answer.
Silver Springs weather in June: average highs, lows and rain days
| June normal | Value |
|---|---|
| Average high | 90.7°F |
| Average low | 73.1°F |
| Precipitation | 6.98 in |
| Days with 0.10 in or more | 10.7 |
| Days with 1.00 in or more | 2.4 |
| Daylight on June 15 | 14 h 03 m |
Every figure here comes from NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information, 1991-2020 monthly normals, station USW00012819. The thermometer is not at the spring: it stands at Leesburg Muni AP, about 44 km away, roughly 27 miles, which is the nearest official record we could read. It gives June an average high of 90.7°F, an average low of 73.1°F and 6.98 inches of rain. Those are air figures. The spring has no season, and we could not verify a water temperature at the vent, so we give none.
In an average June, 10.7 days record at least a tenth of an inch, so measurable rain lands on roughly one day in three. Of those, 2.4 days deliver an inch or more, the kind of hour that empties a boardwalk. June sits inside Florida’s wet season, when storms build through the afternoon and move on, and a monthly total of 6.98 inches says nothing about whether your Tuesday is ruined.
Between that 90.7°F afternoon and that 73.1°F night sit 17.6°F, a gap small enough that nothing in your bag is for warmth. Pack for water instead: a rain shell you can ball up, a dry bag for the phone, a spare shirt left in the car, and shoes you can wear soaked at four and dry by dinner.
On June 15 the sun rises at 6:27 a.m. and sets at 8:30 p.m. local time, 14 hours and 3 minutes of daylight. That shapes a visit more than the heat does. A boardwalk walk at seven in the morning is a different park from the same walk at two in the afternoon, and there is still usable light on the water after six in the evening.
How hot does Silver Springs get in June? Highs of 90.7°F, lows of 73.1°F
The 90.7°F figure is the average of the month’s afternoons rather than its ceiling, and 73.1°F is the average of its nights. Seventeen and a half degrees separate the two, and the low end shows up around dawn and stays for maybe an hour. Within the same NOAA series, May averages 88.1°F and July 91.1°F, so June lands within half a degree of the hottest month on the record.
Before nine the air is still in the seventies, and a long-sleeve sun shirt is comfortable rather than heroic. By two it is neither. The sensible kit for that stretch is a brimmed hat, the thinnest fabric you own and more water than you plan to drink. Parts of the boardwalk run under canopy. The parking lot runs under nothing.
Freezing nights play no part in a June visit. We hold no frost-day count for the station, and the coldest figure the June record carries is that 73.1°F average low, some 41 degrees above freezing. Heat and water are what a June plan protects against.
How busy is Silver Springs in June? Crowds, prices and the demand peak
June is school-holiday summer in Florida, and demand at a spring climbs with the air temperature. Where the month ranks on price, we cannot tell you: we found no occupancy series and no monthly room-rate series for the area, so we crown no month expensive and none cheap. For a state-wide sense of what a week runs, our cost guide does that arithmetic.
The number that settles a June Saturday is 1,686, the parking spaces the state counts here. When the lot fills, the gate closes, and nothing reopens it before cars leave. Arrive well before mid-morning on a weekend, or make it a weekday visit. Whether the plan is a day trip or two nights on site, you will be driving in, and our getting-around guide covers the toll and rental layer.
We could not verify a lodging-tax rate for the area, so no percentage comes from us. Our sources also carry no entrance fee and no opening hour for Silver Springs, and park fees move with the season, so a price you read for another Florida spring does not transfer. Check the state’s own booking system before you set the day’s budget.
One upgrade genuinely changes June: sleeping inside the park rather than driving in for it. The inventory counts ten cabins, the entire on-site sleeping stock, and ten is a small number in a summer month, so book as early as your dates allow. A bigger rental car or a closer hotel adds comfort without adding morning hours, and the lodging guide handles the rest.
Things to do in Silver Springs in June: the boardwalk, the paddling trail and the cabins

June sits on the solstice, so the evening runs as long as Florida evenings get: light on the water past eight, and a 6:27 a.m. sunrise for anyone who can face it. That gives the month two working windows instead of one. A paddle that starts at six in the evening is still a daylight paddle, and by then the air has come down off its 90.7°F peak.
Silver Springs State Park is the whole show, and Florida’s 2024 facilities inventory counts what sits in it: 4,775 feet of boardwalk, five observation platforms, 6.3 miles of paddling trail, ten cabins and 1,686 parking spaces. On launches our two readings of that same inventory disagree, one listing three canoe, kayak and tube launches and the other listing none, so confirm before you haul a boat. On one point the inventory is flat: no designated swimming area is listed.
The water holds still while the calendar moves. The USGS gauge at station 02239500 read 264 cubic feet per second leaving the vent, replaced faster than it can cloud, and that is as true in June as in February. What changes is the air above it: 88.1°F in May, 90.7°F in June. A wider gap between your skin and the spring is the whole seasonal difference at a place like this.
What any of it costs, we cannot say. Our sources carry no entrance fee, no opening hour and no manatee count for Silver Springs: the state parks site answers automated reads with an error, and the wildlife agency’s manatee pages build in the browser rather than in a file we can quote (our manatee guide handles the winter side of that story). What we can give you is legal: Florida law protects this water under the heading Outstanding Florida Springs, a class covering every historic first-magnitude spring as the Florida Geological Survey determines them.
Silver Springs in June: a two-day itinerary
Day one starts at the gate around seven, half an hour after that 6:27 a.m. sunrise, with the lot empty and 4,775 feet of boardwalk walkable before the air has done anything. Paddle from nine until noon while the trail is quiet. Take lunch somewhere air-conditioned from one to three, the two hours the day gives least. Come back out at four for the platforms, and save the last stretch for the water, since the light holds to 8:30 p.m.
Day two keeps the same shape with a shorter middle: an early walk, a long run at the 6.3-mile paddling trail, an evening that needs no plan at all. If the sky builds, and 10.7 wet days a month say it may, move indoors between two and four rather than writing off the day. Inch-plus rain falls on 2.4 days in an average June, and those are the ones to spend under a roof with a menu in front of you.
Silver Springs in June vs May and July
| 1991-2020 normal | May | June | July |
|---|---|---|---|
| Average high | 88.1°F | 90.7°F | 91.1°F |
| Average low | 67.7°F | 73.1°F | 74.9°F |
| Precipitation | 2.68 in | 6.98 in | 5.88 in |
| Days with 0.10 in or more | 4.1 | 10.7 | 10.7 |
On air temperature the three months sit within three degrees of each other: 88.1°F, 90.7°F, 91.1°F. On rain they part company. May takes 2.68 inches over 4.1 wet days, June takes 6.98 inches over 10.7, and July takes 5.88 inches over the same 10.7 days. June is the wettest of the three, by 1.10 inches on July and by 4.30 on May. The spring runs the same through all three, and we hold no temperature reading for any of them.
Move four weeks back to May and you buy dry weather: a little over a third of June’s wet days, and nights averaging 67.7°F, 5.4 degrees cooler. It costs you evening light and 2.6°F of afternoon warmth. Move forward to July and the rain barely shifts, 1.1 inches lighter across an identical 10.7 wet days, for 0.4°F more heat.
Is June a good time to visit Silver Springs?
Yes, if you can start early and you came for the water. Paddlers, cabin bookers and families get the most out of the month, and the kid logistics loosen up when the light holds to 8:30 p.m. No, if you pictured a swimming beach, because the state lists no designated swimming area here. No again if planning a day around a 90.7°F afternoon and rain on one day in three sounds like work.
When the answer is no, take May. Same park, same 264 cubic feet per second, with 2.68 inches of rain instead of 6.98 and 4.1 wet days instead of 10.7, and nights that average 67.7°F. You give up a little evening light and 2.6°F of afternoon heat, and most visitors count that trade as a win.
June alone hands you the combination: a sunset at 8:30 p.m. over water that keeps moving at 264 cubic feet per second, and no reason to carry a jacket at any hour of the day or night.
The last word
Book one of the ten cabins if you can get one, and if you cannot, set an alarm: the distance between a June morning and a June afternoon at Silver Springs is wider than the distance between June and July. One more thing worth carrying in: the statute that protects this water names six springs by hand and covers every historic first-magnitude spring besides, so the clarity you are looking at is a legal category as much as a geological one.
