Those normals come from NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information, 1991–2020 monthly normals, station USW00012815 at Orlando International Airport: high 84.7°F, low 66.2°F, 3.46 inches of precipitation. That is a real instrument with an identifier, not a reanalysis grid cell averaged across a few hundred square miles, and the two do not always agree. Every air figure here comes from that station, standing on airport ground beside the runways where most visitors land.

A normal is a thirty-year mean, not a forecast for the third Tuesday, and a single October afternoon can land well above or below its own average.
In practice you dress twice. A 66°F dawn takes a light layer in the queue or on the trail, and the 84.7°F middle of the day takes shade, water and a swim. Orlando has no coast of its own, so an October swim means a hotel pool or the spring runs north of town, listed below with their gauge readings.

The calendar does carry one hard marker: March fills the theme parks with family school holidays, while college spring break weighs on the beach towns instead, and no single spring-break week exists because university calendars spread across the month. October, in what we verified, carries no school-holiday peak of its own.
Book refundable rather than early. The hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30 and peaks on September 10, with most activity between mid-August and mid-October (NOAA National Hurricane Center), which puts the whole month inside the window. Two commercial airports serve the city and they are not the same place: MCO boarded 27,859,783 passengers in 2024, the busiest in Florida ahead of Miami, while Sanford SFB boarded 1.4 million. SFB’s distance from the parks we could not verify, because the airport’s own site blocks our connection, so no drive time appears here.
Orange County, where Orlando and the parks sit, levies a 6.0% transient rental tax, filed and paid with the 6% state sales tax (Florida Department of Revenue, form DR-15TDT). On a room or a vacation rental quoted before tax, that is 12% arriving at checkout, in October exactly as in March. Add it to the nightly figure before comparing two hotels.
Rent the car if the springs are on the list. SunRail’s own schedule page names no airport and no theme-park station, and the tubing run at Kelly Park sits north of the city. LYNX, the bus network of Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties, charges $2.00 a ride with free transfers, and its All-Day Pass at $4.50 has to be requested before you feed the farebox, then runs from 4 a.m. until 3 a.m. the next morning. Park tickets we deliberately do not price: Disney and Universal move them by date, so take the amount from the operator.
Things to do in Orlando in October: Wekiwa Springs, Rock Springs and Blue Spring
October drops the afternoon 4.9°F below September’s 89.6°F and cuts the rain from 6.37 inches to 3.46, which makes it a swimming and walking month rather than a month spent waiting out water. The manatee crowd at Blue Spring belongs to winter: the animals gather in and around the spring run when the river cools, and with 84.7°F afternoons that cooling has not happened yet (Southwest Florida Water Management District).
Wekiwa Springs State Park is the nearest of them, and Florida’s 2024 facilities inventory counts 325 parking spaces, one designated swimming area, one canoe and tube launch, 15.9 miles of paddling trail, 13.7 miles of hiking trail and 1,435 feet of boardwalk. Kelly Park holds the Rock Springs tubing run. Blue Spring State Park counts 187 parking spaces, 3,050 feet of boardwalk, three observation platforms and six cabins. Silver Springs, the glass-bottom-boat park, dwarfs all of them with 1,686 spaces and three launches.
USGS gauges read Wekiwa at 75.6°F, Rock Springs at 75.0°F and Blue Spring at 74.3°F with 168 cubic feet per second on September 11, 2026. Those are single instantaneous readings, not monthly averages, and they barely move through the year. The air does: the air-to-water gap runs about 9.1°F in October against 14.0°F in September, and closes to roughly 2.7°F by November, which is when the swim stops being a relief.
We could not read an entrance fee or an opening hour for any of these parks, since floridastateparks.org answers 403 to our requests and fees vary by park and season, so nothing here is presented as free. No per-spring manatee count was verified either. What the parking counts do tell you is why the gates turn cars away: 325 spaces at Wekiwa and 187 at Blue Spring go first to whoever arrives first.
Orlando in October: a two-day itinerary
Day one starts at the 7:25 a.m. sunrise and heads for Wekiwa, because 325 spaces fill in the order people arrive. Swim from mid-morning in 75.6°F water, eat somewhere with a roof while the 84.7°F peak passes, then take a slice of the 13.7 miles of hiking trail or the 1,435 feet of boardwalk once the shadows lengthen. Be off the trail before the 6:56 p.m. sunset and give the dark hours to dinner or a park evening.
Day two goes north to the Rock Springs tubing run at 75.0°F, or through a theme-park gate if that is why you flew in. On one of the 5.3 measurable rain days, swap to Blue Spring’s 3,050 feet of boardwalk and its three platforms, which work under a poncho. Arriving by Brightline from Miami, about 235 miles and three and a half hours with departures roughly every two hours, leaves you carless: check the LYNX route before committing the day.

No, if the dates are locked and non-refundable, because the month sits inside the season that runs to November 30.
If dry pavement outranks warm water, take November: 1.79 inches, three measurable rain days, 78.3°F days, and the storm season shut on the 30th. The cost is an 8.0°F drop in the overnight low, down to 58.2°F, and spring runs that feel chilly once the air no longer beats the water by nine degrees. No other month puts 84.7°F afternoons, an 18.5°F day-to-night spread and half of September’s rainfall over water that still reads in the mid-70s.
