MANATEE SPRINGS · FLORIDA · JUNE
Two numbers frame a June trip to Manatee Springs, and 16.6°F separates them. The air around the park averages a high of 89.5°F. The spring itself was reading 72.9°F when the USGS gauge at the vent was last checked, and it reads close to that in every month of the year. June does not warm the water. It widens the distance between the water and everything above it.
June costs you dry ground. The nearest official station logs 7.00 inches of rain in an average June and 9.1 days with measurable rain, against 2.74 inches and 4.7 wet days in May. What it hands back is light: 14 hours and 4 minutes of it on June 15, with the sun still up at 8:34 PM. Build the weekend around those two facts and the drive pays off.

THE MONTH AT A GLANCE · JUNE
June gives you the longest days of the year over a spring that holds 72.9°F whatever the air does, and charges 7.00 inches of rain for the privilege.
AVG HIGH 89.5°F · AVG LOW 70.6°F · 9.1 WET DAYS · 14H 04M OF DAYLIGHT ON JUNE 15
Go for: evenings that run to 8:34 PM, water at 72.9°F on the hottest afternoon of the year, and 128 cubic feet per second of clear flow leaving the vent.
Think twice before: planning a swim day here. Florida DEP’s 2024 facilities inventory lists no designated swimming area at this park, and no canoe, kayak or tube launch.

Manatee Springs sits in the wet half of the Florida year, and June is where statewide timing advice and the spring’s own behavior stop agreeing. The year-round park page is here, the statewide calendar lives in when to visit Florida, and the normals below belong to June alone.

Every air figure here comes from one thermometer: NOAA NCEI’s 1991-2020 monthly normals for station USW00012833 at Cross City AP, roughly 27 miles from the spring. June averages a high of 89.5°F and a low of 70.6°F, with 7.00 inches of rain. That station stands on an airfield, not under the cypress along the run, and it measures air only. The water below it has no season at all.
9.1 days in an average June record at least 0.10 inch, so about one day in three turns wet. Two of those days, on the long-run average, drop an inch or more, meaning a good share of the month’s 7.00 inches arrives in a handful of sittings rather than as all-day drizzle. A four-night trip can expect one drowned afternoon and still keep every morning it planned.
Nights barely back off. At 70.6°F the June normal low sits nearly 8°F above May’s 62.7°F, so nothing in the bag needs to be warm. The consequence is drying time: air that holds 70°F overnight will not dry a shirt left on a car seat. Pack two, plus a rain shell light enough to carry on the 9.1 days that will ask for one.
June 15 runs 14 hours and 4 minutes, from a 6:30 AM sunrise to an 8:34 PM sunset in Eastern Daylight Time, converted from the sunrise-sunset.org calculation. The longest days of the year fall in this month, and they change the shape of a visit: you can drive in for an evening on the water after work, or push the outdoor half of the day past 6 PM and let the 89.5°F afternoon happen somewhere with air conditioning.
How warm is Manatee Springs in June?
The month’s own spread is 18.9°F: 89.5°F by mid-afternoon, 70.6°F before dawn. Line the spring up against that and the ranking turns odd. At 72.9°F the vent runs 2.3°F warmer than the average June night and 16.6°F cooler than the average June afternoon. That is one instantaneous reading taken at the gauge on a single day, not a monthly mean of daily maxima, and the USGS record shows it barely moving across the year.
At 6:30 AM you are in the low 70s with wet-season humidity, so a light long sleeve is worth an hour and then goes in the bag. By 3 PM the air is near 89.5°F and shade is the only cool thing above the waterline. Hat, water, and the knowledge that 72.9°F takes your breath for ten seconds or so when the air standing over it is 16.6°F warmer.
Freezing nights: we have no daily-minimum series to count them with, so we publish no count. The monthly normal low is 70.6°F, and the coldest thing anyone meets here in June is the water itself. Travelers hoping the dark hours will take the edge off should look at May instead, where the normal low drops to 62.7°F.
How busy is Manatee Springs in June? Crowds, prices and the demand peak
We found no occupancy series and no monthly room-rate figures for this stretch of north Florida, so we crown no month cheap and no month expensive. The calendar says what it says: American schools are out in June, the wet season is running, and summer demand in Florida is a statewide pattern rather than a spring-by-spring one. Budget at state level with our Florida trip cost guide.
Booking lead time is the same story told twice. Our reads of the park’s official site returned a 403, so we hold no reservation calendar, no campsite inventory and no figure in weeks to quote you. Florida’s hurricane season opens on June 1 (our Florida timing guide carries the season dates), which is reason enough to keep a June booking refundable and to check the tropics before you load the car.
On lodging tax, we could not verify the local tourist development rate, so we give no percentage. A Florida room bill carries state sales tax plus a county add-on, and that add-on varies from county to county. Publishing a rate we have not read would be worse than leaving the gap, so ask the property for the all-in nightly figure at the moment you book.
Spending more changes exactly one thing in June, and it is the bed. Sleep within a short drive of the gate and you are at the water by 7 AM with the air still in the low 70s, then indoors when the 89.5°F afternoon lands. Sleep two hours out and you arrive in the heat, twice over. The car question for this corner of the state sits in our getting-around guide.
Things to do in Manatee Springs in June

June does something the dry months cannot: it makes the spring feel cold. The water is 72.9°F in January too. The difference is that in June you walk out of 89.5°F air to reach it, and you can still be standing on the run at 8 PM with light to spare. Long evenings plus a wet-season air mass is a combination that belongs to this half of the year.
The vent is the attraction, and USGS station 02323566 measured 128 cubic feet per second leaving it. That volume is why the water stays clear: it is replaced faster than it can cloud. Before anyone plans a swim day, one thing to know. Florida DEP’s 2024 Recreational Facilities Inventory lists no designated swimming area at Manatee Springs State Park, and no canoe, kayak or tube launch. That is the state’s own facilities list, and the park’s page was unreadable to us.
Set that same 72.9°F water against three months of air and the whole season shows up in the gap: 13.8°F in May, 16.6°F in June, 17.2°F in July. The spring does not move an inch. Manatees are a cold-weather event at Florida springs, so June is not their month here, and we hold no count for this park in any month. Our manatee guide covers where and when that happens.
No entrance fee, no opening hour and no free-entry day survived our checks. Floridastateparks.org returns a 403 to automated reads, and we will not carry a price over from another park, because fees in Florida vary by park and by season. Call before you budget the day. What June adds at no charge is the usable light between 6:30 PM and the 8:34 PM sunset.
Manatee Springs in June: a two-day itinerary
Day one runs on the light. Be at the water by 7 AM, half an hour after the 6:30 sunrise, with the air near 70.6°F and the 72.9°F spring feeling almost mild by comparison. Be out by 11, ahead of the climb toward 89.5°F. Take the middle of the day under a roof with cold air, then come back around 5 PM for three and a half hours of usable evening.
Day two keeps the clock and changes the bet. With 9.1 wet days in the month, roughly one June day in three records measurable rain, and two days stacked together stand about even odds of catching one. If the sky turns, invert the order: take the morning gap on the water and give the afternoon to the drive. Two days in an average June deliver an inch or more. A spring day fits into a longer loop in our seven-day Florida itinerary.
Manatee Springs in June vs May and July
| May | June | July | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Average high | 86.7°F | 89.5°F | 90.1°F |
| Average low | 62.7°F | 70.6°F | 72.5°F |
| Precipitation | 2.74 in | 7.00 in | 7.77 in |
| Days with 0.10 in or more | 4.7 | 9.1 | 11.6 |
| Gap from the 72.9°F spring to the average high | 13.8°F | 16.6°F | 17.2°F |
May is the dry one: 2.74 inches over 4.7 wet days, against June’s 7.00 inches over 9.1 days and July’s 7.77 inches over 11.6. Heat climbs more slowly than rain. The average high rises 2.8°F from May to June, then only 0.6°F from June to July. Nights do the real moving, from 62.7°F to 70.6°F to 72.5°F. Through all three months the gauge holds at 72.9°F.
Move the trip four weeks earlier and you buy dry ground: 4.26 inches less rain and 4.4 fewer wet days than June. You pay in shorter evenings and nights at 62.7°F. Move it four weeks later and July adds 0.6°F of heat, 2.5 more wet days, and the widest air-to-water gap of the three at 17.2°F. Both neighbors are written up in full: May and July.
Is June a good time to visit Manatee Springs?
Yes, for travelers whose plan rides on water that ignores the air above it and on evenings that run to 8:34 PM. No, for a family driving in with a swim day and nothing else on the list: the state’s own facilities inventory records no designated swimming area at this park, and learning that at the gate wastes the whole trip.
If the answer is no, May is the month to slide to. It takes 2.8°F off the afternoon high, a difference few visitors will register, and it cuts 4.26 inches of rain and 4.4 wet days out of the month. Nights fall to 62.7°F in exchange, so an evening on the water wants a dry shirt waiting in the car.
What only June offers: the longest days of the year over a spring running 72.9°F, with 2.5 fewer wet days than July and light on the water until 8:34 PM.
The last word
Book the bed near the park, set the alarm for 6:15, and let the 89.5°F afternoon happen indoors. One more thing worth carrying north with you: Florida law keeps a protected category called Outstanding Florida Springs for the state’s historic first-magnitude springs, as the Florida Geological Survey determines them, plus six written into the statute by name. Whether this vent belongs on that list is the Survey’s call, not ours. What our gauge shows is 128 cubic feet per second of 72.9°F water leaving the ground, in June as in every other month.
