BLUE SPRING · FLORIDA · NOVEMBER
A gauge in the spring run read 74.3°F on September 11, 2026, and it reads close to that on almost any day you care to pick. Blue Spring has no summer and no winter. The air above it does, and that is the whole of what a November trip changes: the water you get into is the same water, and the morning you walk to it runs 8.2 degrees cooler than October’s.
NOAA’s 1991-2020 normals put a November afternoon at 77.8°F and a November night at 60.1°F, with 1.73 inches of rain spread across the month. That is the opening of Florida’s dry season, November through April, and at a spring it has one specific consequence: the afternoon air finally sits within a few degrees of the water instead of towering over it. Our statewide calendar handles the rest of the year.

NOVEMBER AT A GLANCE · BLUE SPRING
Swim in 74.3°F water under a 77.8°F afternoon, expect about three days of measurable rain in the whole month, and plan around a 5:32 pm sunset and 187 parking spaces.
AVERAGE HIGH 77.8°F · WATER NEAR 74°F · 3 RAIN DAYS · 187 PARKING SPACES
Go for: swimming in 74.3°F water when the air above it is only 3.5 degrees warmer, 3,050 feet of boardwalk at a temperature that lets you walk it at noon, and 1.73 inches of rain across four weeks.
Think twice before: driving up late on a weekend morning. The park has 187 parking spaces, and when the lot fills the gate closes.

Every air figure here comes from one thermometer, and it is not at the spring: NOAA’s normals are measured at Orlando Executive Airport, about 27 miles (44 km) away. The water figure comes from a USGS gauge in the spring itself. Fees and opening hours are the gap in our knowledge, since the state park’s own site returned a 403 to our automated reads, so we print neither. The main Blue Spring guide carries what does not change with the month.

The normals below are NOAA NCEI monthly normals for 1991-2020, read from station USW00012841 at Orlando Executive Airport, about 27 miles from the spring. They describe the air: 77.8°F by day, 60.1°F at night, 1.73 inches of rain across the month. No official thermometer sits at the boardwalk, so take those figures as the weather of the drive and the parking lot at least as much as of the swim area.
Three days in an average November record at least 0.10 inch of rain, roughly one day in ten. Only 0.3 of a day reaches a full inch, so a genuine soaking turns up about one November in three. In practice that means a wet hour rather than a wet weekend, and two dry days out of two is the normal outcome for a Saturday and a Sunday.
Between 77.8°F and 60.1°F there are 17.7 degrees, and you will feel all of them. Pack a fleece for the first hour after sunrise and shorts for the middle of the afternoon, in the same bag, on the same day. A second towel matters more in November than in July: 60-degree air on wet skin is cold, and the sun goes down too early to fix it.
November 15 gives 10 hours 44 minutes of daylight, with sunrise at 6:47 am and sunset at 5:32 pm local time. The consequence lands at the far end of the day. By 4:30 pm the light is going, and a swim started at 4 pm finishes with wet skin and an air temperature already heading for 60.1°F. Do the water at midday and the boardwalk after.
How warm is the water at Blue Spring in November?
The USGS gauge in the spring, station 02235500, read 74.3°F (23.5°C) on September 11, 2026. That is a single instantaneous reading, not an average of daily maxima and not a monthly mean, so read it as the neighborhood rather than a promise to the decimal. It holds steady because 168 cubic feet of water per second leave the vent. Around it, November air swings from 60.1°F to 77.8°F: the spring sits 14.2 degrees above the average night and 3.5 degrees below the average afternoon.
That arithmetic decides what you wear. Long sleeves at the gate, because 60-degree air before 9 am is not the Florida of the brochure. By one o’clock the gap between water and air is down to 3.5 degrees, and the park’s single designated swimming area is at its friendliest: you get in, you catch your breath once, and the air you climb out into is warmer than the water you left.
NOAA’s monthly normals carry no count of nights at or below freezing, and we found no such count elsewhere, so we publish no frost figure for November. What we can give is the direction of travel. December’s average low is 54.5°F, a further 5.6 degrees under November’s, and the water does not follow it down.
How busy is Blue Spring in November? Parking, prices and when the gate closes
November opens Florida’s dry season, November through April, the half of the year when the state’s warm-weather visitors arrive. We found no occupancy series and no monthly room-rate series for this part of central Florida, so we crown no month cheap and no month expensive. What the calendar does carry is Thanksgiving week, and a national holiday week behaves like one wherever you spend it.
The state’s 2024 inventory counts six cabins at the park. Six, in total. We could not verify the reservation window for Florida state park cabins, so we name no number of days in advance, and the practical advice does not need one: if a November weekend matters to you, look the moment your dates are fixed. Everything else means sleeping outside the park and driving in, and our where-to-stay guide covers the region.
We could not verify the county lodging-tax rate, so we give no percentage. The gate price sits in the same position: floridastateparks.org returned a 403 to our automated reads, so we print no entrance fee and no opening hour. Check both on the park’s own page the night before you drive, and budget the surrounding trip with our Florida cost guide.
One expense changes November more than any other, and it is the cabin. A guest already inside the gate is on the boardwalk at 7 am, while everyone else is competing for a share of 187 spaces on a bright Saturday. A paddle rental at the single canoe, kayak and tube launch would be the other candidate, but no rental price appears in our sources, so we quote none.
Things to do in Blue Spring in November: the boardwalk, the swim area and the paddle launch

November lets you do both halves of the park in one day without choosing. The afternoon reaches 77.8°F, warm enough to dry off and keep walking, while October’s 84.4°F arrives with 3.24 inches of rain and 4.7 wet days. December turns the relationship the other way: a 73.1°F afternoon sits below the water, and getting out becomes the cold part of the outing.
The state counted the park in its 2024 facilities inventory: 3,050 feet of boardwalk, one designated swimming area, one launch for canoes, kayaks and tubes, three observation platforms, six cabins and 187 parking spaces. The spring is protected under Florida Statutes 373.802(5) as an Outstanding Florida Spring, the class the law reserves for historic first-magnitude springs.
None of those counts move with the calendar, and neither does 74.3°F. The air is the only variable. At 8 am the three observation platforms stand in 60-degree air and nobody hunts for shade; at 2 pm the same platforms are the warm spot in the park. A boardwalk that Florida’s summer turns into a shade-hunting exercise becomes, in November, the easiest 3,050 feet of your trip.
Nothing costs less in November than getting up early. Sunrise at 6:47 am gives you two quiet hours before a normal Saturday builds, and it is late enough that you are not driving in the dark for long.
Blue Spring in November: a two-day itinerary
Day one runs on the sunrise. Be at the gate around 7 am with a fleece on, air near 60.1°F, and take the 3,050 feet of boardwalk first, while the platforms are quiet and parking is not yet a question. Swim from about 11 am, once the air has climbed toward 77.8°F. Give noon to 3 pm to the water and the swim area. Launch a kayak by 3:30 pm at the latest, since the sun sets at 5:32 pm and the last 40 minutes of light go quickly.
Move day two around the weather. Start later, swim earlier, and keep the afternoon for whatever you drove past the day before. If rain lands, the odds say an hour rather than a day: three days in an average November record 0.10 inch and only 0.3 of a day reaches an inch. Sit it out and then swim, because 74.3°F water takes no notice of a shower. If the whole day goes gray, our statewide list has the alternatives.
Blue Spring in November vs October and December
| Measure | October | November | December |
|---|---|---|---|
| Average high | 84.4°F | 77.8°F | 73.1°F |
| Average low | 68.3°F | 60.1°F | 54.5°F |
| Precipitation | 3.24 in | 1.73 in | 2.28 in |
| Days with 0.10 in or more | 4.7 | 3.0 | 3.4 |
| Spring water | about 74°F | about 74°F | about 74°F |
November runs 6.6 degrees below October by day and 8.2 degrees below it at night, and it is the driest of the three: 1.73 inches against October’s 3.24 and December’s 2.28. Rain days follow the same order, 3.0 against 4.7 and 3.4. December then takes another 4.7 degrees off the afternoon and 5.6 off the night. Through all three months the spring holds near 74.3°F, and that is the number that never moves.
Shift four weeks back and you buy an 84.4°F afternoon, paid for with nearly twice the rain and 1.7 more wet days. Shift four weeks forward and the relationship flips: December’s 73.1°F average afternoon is 1.2 degrees below the water, so the spring becomes the warm place and the towel becomes urgent. We found no attendance series for the park, so we rank the three months on temperature and rain only.
Is November a good time to visit Blue Spring?
Yes, if the swim is the point. Water at 74.3°F under a 77.8°F afternoon, with 1.73 inches of rain for the whole month, asks very little of your luck. No, if the same trip also has to carry a beach day on the coast, because 60.1°F dawns and a 5:32 pm sunset make short work of a long afternoon by the sea.
If the answer is no, October is the month to take instead: 84.4°F afternoons and 68.3°F nights, at the price of 3.24 inches of rain and 4.7 days with measurable rain. That trade is laid out in our October guide. December is the alternative in the other direction, drier than October but with afternoons sitting below the temperature of the water.
Of these three months, November is the only one that gives you an afternoon warmer than the spring and the lowest rainfall of the three at the same time.
The last word
Decide this one at the gate, not on the forecast. Three wet days in thirty means the sky is rarely the problem in November, while 187 parking spaces on a bright Saturday can be. Arrive with the 6:47 am sunrise, walk the boardwalk cold, swim at eleven. And the reason the water looks the way it does is measurable: the USGS gauge recorded 168 cubic feet per second leaving the vent, replacing the spring run faster than it can cloud.
