Homosassa Springs in November: Weather, Crowds and Spring Water at 74°F

Florida’s dry season opens in November, and at Homosassa the change reads best against the water. A USGS gauge in the spring measured 74.3°F on September 11, 2026, and it reads close to that every day of the year: a spring has no seasons, the air above it does. November air averages a high of 77.9°F and a low of 52.3°F. Afternoons land within four degrees of the vent, mornings twenty-two degrees under it.

October brings 2.79 inches of rain, November 1.59, December 2.56, so this is the driest of the three by a clear margin. The Atlantic hurricane season closes on November 30. What the month takes back sits at the edges of the day: one night at or below freezing on average, and daylight down to 10 hours 45 minutes by the 15th.

Two subjects sit outside a month guide. Florida’s two seasons and the hurricane calendar belong to our Florida orientation, and in-water manatee trips, which run from the river rather than from the park, are covered in our manatee guide. Everything below is dated to November.

These normals come from NOAA NCEI’s 1991 to 2020 monthly series, station USW00012818, and that thermometer stands at Brooksville Hernando County Airport, about 27 miles inland from the spring. It is a real instrument rather than a reanalysis grid cell, and the distance cuts both ways: an inland airfield runs cooler on clear nights than a riverside town. Every figure here describes the air, never the water. November averages 77.9°F by day, 52.3°F at night and 1.59 inches of rain.

Three days in an average November collect at least a tenth of an inch, so measurable rain turns up roughly one day in ten, and 27 days never reach that tenth. A full inch falls on 0.4 day, which works out to a genuine soaking in about two Novembers out of five. A packable jacket covers the whole month, and no indoor fallback needs booking in advance.

The day-to-night spread is 25.6°F, the widest thing about November here. That single figure sets the bag: a fleece or light jacket for the first two hours, short sleeves for the middle of the day, and something with a hood for the three wet days. Nobody needs a coat at 2 pm, and nearly everybody wants one at 7 am.

Light is the other constraint. On November 15 the sun rises at 6:52 am and sets at 5:37 pm local time, 10 hours 45 minutes between them, per sunrise-sunset.org. Dinner plans that start at seven leave the whole afternoon free, and any wildlife hour you want at the end of the day has to happen before 5:30.

How warm is Homosassa Springs in November?

The month averages 77.9°F at its daily peak and 52.3°F at its daily low, a gap of 25.6°F. For comparison, October’s averages are 84.5°F and 61.7°F: November shaves 6.6°F off the afternoon and 9.4°F off the night, and the night loses more than the day does.

In practice you dress twice. At the 6:52 am sunrise you want long sleeves and a layer over them, and the spring run at 74.3°F is warmer than the air standing beside it. By early afternoon the air has climbed past the water and a t-shirt is enough for 3,000 feet of boardwalk. Take the layer anyway, because you will want it again once the sun goes at 5:37 pm.

One night in an average November falls to 32°F or below, according to the same NOAA series. That is a single frost on a thirty-night month, usually gone by mid-morning, and it matters mostly if you are sleeping in a tent or a van rather than a room.

How busy is Homosassa Springs in November? Crowds, prices and the demand peak

The dry season opens in November and runs through April, and the Atlantic hurricane season ends on the 30th. Those are calendar facts and they explain why the state fills up from here. We found no occupancy series and no monthly room-rate series for this coast, so we crown no month cheap and none expensive, whatever the season implies.

The Florida DEP inventory counts 197 parking spaces at Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. When the lot fills, the gate closes, and that number decides a busy day more than any opening hour does. We could not read the park’s hours, so call before you build a morning around the gate, then aim for the first hour after it opens: in mid-November that costs you no warmth you would have had anyway.

We could not verify a lodging-tax rate for this county, so we give no percentage. When you compare two nights on a November weekend, read the total on the confirmation rather than the nightly headline, because the tax line is where the two quotes stop matching.

One spend changes November more than any other: a guided outfitter trip on the Homosassa River. The state inventory lists no designated swimming area at the park and no canoe, kayak or tube launch, so getting into the water happens off-site, from a boat, with a guide. We could not verify what those trips cost, and our manatee guide explains how they run.

Things to do in Homosassa Springs in November

November gives you 3,000 feet of boardwalk at an average 77.9°F, where October gives you the same boardwalk at 84.5°F and 2.79 inches of rain. Walking is the whole activity here, and the month makes it comfortable rather than sticky, at a cost of 9.4°F off the average night.

Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park holds that boardwalk, two observation platforms and 197 parking spaces, all counted by the Florida DEP in its 2024 recreational facilities inventory. In the spring itself, USGS gauge 02310678 read 74.3°F on September 11, 2026, a single instantaneous reading rather than a monthly mean. Florida’s own springs page puts the case simply: of all the state’s springs offering the chance to observe native wildlife up close, few are more famous.

What the month changes is the contrast, not the water. In October the average afternoon stands 10.2°F above the spring. In November the gap narrows to 3.6°F, and by December the air finishes 1.3°F below it. Florida law keeps a protected category called Outstanding Florida Springs, covering every historic first-magnitude spring as the Florida Geological Survey determines them plus six named by hand in statute 373.802(5).

We carry no entrance fee and no opening hour for the park: floridastateparks.org returned a 403 to our reads on September 11, 2026. So we quote no price and we claim no free day, in November or in any other month. Phone the park, and treat the fee as a line in the budget rather than a rounding error.

Homosassa Springs in November: a two-day itinerary

Day one starts at the gate, whenever it opens, with sunrise at 6:52 am and the air near 52°F. Wear the fleece you intend to take off. Walk the 3,000 feet of boardwalk before the 197 spaces start to matter, work the two observation platforms while the light is low, and eat late. The average afternoon reaches 77.9°F around 2 pm. Light goes at 5:37 pm in mid-month, so put the last loop at 4:30.

Day two goes on the water with a river outfitter, since the park has neither a swim area nor a launch. If the sky turns, the arithmetic stays mild: three days in an average November reach a tenth of an inch, and only 0.4 day reaches a full one. Put the boardwalk under a jacket on the wetter morning and keep the boat for the drier of the two.

Homosassa Springs in November vs October and December

October November December
Average high 84.5°F 77.9°F 73.0°F
Average low 61.7°F 52.3°F 47.6°F
Precipitation 2.79 in 1.59 in 2.56 in
Days with 0.10 in or more 4.0 3.0 3.4
Afternoon air vs the 74.3°F spring 10.2°F above 3.6°F above 1.3°F below

All three columns come from the same NOAA station and the same 1991 to 2020 period. November sits 6.6°F under October by day and 4.9°F over December, and it is the driest of the three at 1.59 inches against 2.79 and 2.56. The wet-day counts barely separate them, 4.0 then 3.0 then 3.4, so the real difference is how much falls when it does fall.

Shift four weeks earlier and you buy back 9.4°F on the average night, which makes a 6 am start pleasant, and you pay for it with an extra 1.20 inches of rain and afternoons ten degrees above the water. Shift four weeks later and December hands you air that finishes below the spring for the first time, colder nights at 47.6°F, and nearly an inch more rain than November.

Is November a good time to visit Homosassa Springs?

Yes, if your day is spent walking and looking: 3,000 feet of boardwalk at 77.9°F, two platforms over water that never leaves 74°F, and the lightest rain total of the fall. No, if you arrived with a swimsuit and an expectation, because the state lists no designated swimming area here and mornings average 52.3°F. And no, if you need a guaranteed count of animals: we could not verify any manatee figure for this spring, in November or otherwise.

If the animals are the reason for the drive, December is the month to prefer. Its air finishes 1.3°F below the spring instead of 3.6°F above, its nights run 47.6°F, and cooler water in the Gulf is what sends manatees toward warm springs at all. Take the how from our manatee guide, and take no numbers from us.

What November alone offers is the crossover: the only one of these three months where the afternoon air still sits above the spring while the rain has already dropped to 1.59 inches and hurricane season runs out on the 30th.

The last word

Decide one thing before you book the weekend: whether you want to watch the spring or get into water with a guide, because the park answers only the first of those. The same USGS gauge measured about 74 cubic feet per second leaving the vent, replaced faster than it can cloud, and that clarity is what the two platforms exist for. In November you lean on the rail in a t-shirt at two in the afternoon and in a fleece at seven in the morning, over water that has not noticed either.
