That is one real thermometer, not a reanalysis grid cell averaged over miles of land and water. It stands at the airport, about three miles inland, so every figure here describes the airfield and not the sand itself.

October pairs sea water near 84.5°F with fewer rain days than September, 7.9 against 10.8. November brings drier air, but its sea averages 82.1°F. Long morning swims followed by a trail walk before the midday heat fit this month better than either neighbor.
The state’s 2024 facilities inventory gives the numbers. Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park holds 2.2 miles of beach, 4,531 feet of boardwalk, 2.6 miles of hiking trail and 1,410 parking spaces. Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is smaller, with 0.1 mile of beach, a canoe, kayak and tube launch and 275 spaces. Oleta River State Park, on the bay side and not the ocean, has two launches, 925 spaces and 14 cabins.
The water changes less than the air. Between September and October the sea drops from 87.7°F to 84.5°F, while the average low falls from 77.1°F to 74.4°F. The 2.6 miles of trail at Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson are easier on an October morning than in September, and the swim afterward is still warm.
We could not read entrance fees or opening hours for the three state parks, so we name none of them as free. Broward County also runs more than 50 regional parks, nature centers, neighborhood parks and natural areas. Check each operator’s site on the morning you go, since hours can shift after heavy rain.
Fort Lauderdale in October: a two-day itinerary
Day one. Be at Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park for the 7:18 a.m. sunrise and swim in the designated area while the air is near 74°F. Walk the boardwalk and part of the 2.6-mile trail before 10 a.m. Spend the hottest hours, when the high reaches 85.4°F, over lunch and a siesta. Around 4 p.m. head to Hugh Taylor Birch State Park and use the paddle launch if you have a boat arranged. Watch the 6:53 p.m. sunset, then eat outside.
Day two. Drive south to Oleta River State Park for a calm bay paddle from one of its two launches, and return by early afternoon. In Broward, a Broward County Transit ride costs $2.00 and an All Day Pass is $5.00, bought on the bus. Is October a good time to visit Fort Lauderdale?
Yes, for swimmers, couples and families with flexible dates who want warm water and warm nights. Plan for a refundable room and a spare day. Travelers tied to one fixed week, such as a wedding or a cruise departure, carry real storm risk through mid-October, and they should weigh it before booking.
If fixed dates matter most, pick November. Its 4.8 rain days and 3.69 inches are the lightest of the three months, afternoons settle at 80.8°F, and the sea at 82.1°F still suits most swimmers. The hurricane season remains open until November 30.
