JAMAICA · NOVEMBER · 18.4° N
By November the north coast has stopped sweating. Ocho Rios averages 83.4°F by day, the rain gauge falls to 4.44 inches from October’s 6.19, and the water off the bay is still running at 85.1°F, which is bath temperature by any northern standard. The falls keep flowing, the cruise pier keeps working, and the light goes early.
What the month asks in return is tolerance for two things: the Atlantic hurricane season stays formally open until November 30, and measurable rain still lands on 11.4 days. Every figure here is a November figure, sourced and dated. Where a question belongs to the town rather than to the calendar, we hand it to the page that covers it.

THE MONTH AT A GLANCE · OCHO RIOS · NOVEMBER
November hands you almost October’s water, 85.1°F against 87.3°F, with a third fewer wet days, provided you accept that hurricane season stays open until November 30.
DRIER THAN OCTOBER · WARMER SEA THAN DECEMBER · STORM SEASON OPEN TO NOV 30
Go for: warm-water swimming and snorkeling without October’s 16.2 wet days, and a coast that has not yet filled with the mid-December holiday calendar.
Think twice before: booking prepaid, non-refundable nights in a month that sits inside the official storm window until the last day.

Ocho Rios weather in November: average highs, lows and rain days
| November in Ocho Rios | Figure |
|---|---|
| Average high | 83.4°F |
| Average low | 74.7°F |
| Precipitation | 4.44 inches |
| Days with 0.10 inch or more | 11.4 |
| Days with 1 inch or more | 0.4 |
| Sea surface (mean of daily maxima) | 85.1°F |
| Daylight on November 15 | 11h 18m |
The normals above come from ERA5, the ECMWF reanalysis served through Open-Meteo, averaged over 1991-2020 for the grid cell at 18.4074° N, 77.103° W. That distinction is worth carrying: a reanalysis reconstructs a square of coast and hillside with a model, and it is not a thermometer read at an airport, so a station record can sit a degree or two either side. On that basis, November in Ocho Rios averages a high of 83.4°F, a low of 74.7°F and 4.44 inches of rain.
Rain reaches 0.10 inch or more on 11.4 days, close to one day in three. Only 0.4 day in an average November delivers a full inch, which works out to one real soaking in roughly two Novembers out of five. Most of what falls comes down as a heavy twenty minutes rather than a gray afternoon, so the cost is usually a rearranged hour. Book the boat and the falls for mornings and keep the market, the craft shops or a long lunch in reserve after 3 pm.
Day to night, the spread is 8.7°F, which means nothing woolly goes in the bag. The layer you will want is thin and for two specific moments: a 74.7°F dawn on an open catamaran deck, and a dining room cooled to an indoor winter at 8 pm. Reef-safe sunscreen, a dry bag and a second pair of shoes for wet rock matter more here than any jacket, and our packing list runs the full kit.
On November 15 the town gets 11 hours 18 minutes of daylight, sunrise at 6:14 am and sunset at 5:32 pm local time. Jamaica stays on UTC-5 all year, so no clock change interrupts the month. Light effectively ends at dinner time, which pulls everything forward: be off the water by 5, and plan any inland drive toward Kingston or the Blue Mountains to finish before dark, for the reasons set out in our driving guide.
Can you swim in Ocho Rios in November? Average sea temperature
Open-Meteo’s marine model puts the sea surface off Ocho Rios at 85.1°F in November, averaged across 2015-2024. One caveat travels with that number: it is the mean of daily maxima, the warmest reading of each day, so it runs a shade above a true 24-hour average. Read it as the temperature of the top of the water in the afternoon, not at 7 am.
Water in the mid-80s asks nothing of you. No wetsuit, no bracing at the edge, no five-minute negotiation with your shoulders before you get your chest wet. An hour of snorkeling is comfortable, small children stay in until somebody makes them come out, and swimming before breakfast is pleasant rather than brave. On a full day afloat the sun does the damage, not the sea: 83.4°F air with no shade will beat you long before the water does.
We found no wind or swell series for the north coast, so we publish no figure for either. What is dated is the storm calendar. NOAA runs the Atlantic hurricane season from June 1 to November 30 and puts most activity between mid-August and mid-October, with the peak on September 10, which leaves November inside the window but past the busiest stretch of it. The monthly detail sits in our hurricane season page, and we keep a separate page on Hurricane Melissa.
How busy is Ocho Rios in November? Crowds and prices
We could not verify an occupancy series or a monthly room-rate series for Ocho Rios, so we call no month cheap and no month expensive. What we can date is the calendar around it: storm season closes on November 30, the month runs drier than October at 4.44 inches against 6.19, and the island’s holiday travel period begins after it. The ranges we have been able to price sit in our Jamaica trip cost page.
No booking-window benchmark for the north coast turned up in our sources either, so we give no number of weeks. Two dated facts should still shape the reservation. Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday, putting a block of American travel in the last third of the month, and the season stays formally open until the thirtieth. A rate you can cancel covers both, and it covers them better than an insurance policy bought after a storm is named.
On lodging tax, we could not verify Jamaica’s accommodation levy or any local rate, so no percentage appears here. Any figure you see quoted elsewhere deserves a check against the property’s own written confirmation before it goes into a budget, since the line is sometimes folded into an all-inclusive price and sometimes added at checkout.
If one line on the invoice is worth paying up for in November, it is the cancellation term rather than the room category. A flexible rate rather than a prepaid one is the difference that the November 30 end date justifies. Ask for the cancellation deadline in writing, with its local cut-off hour, when you book.
Things to do in Ocho Rios in November

November is the point where the rain drops but the sea has not yet followed. Against October: 4.44 inches instead of 6.19, and 11.4 wet days instead of 16.2, on water only 2.2°F cooler. That comes out at roughly one extra dry day a week compared with the month before, and the swimming has barely changed. December will be drier still, but the sea will have given up another 2.0°F by then.
The named targets are within an hour. Dunn’s River Falls is the terraced river climb that ends on the beach at its foot, the Blue Hole and Island Gully Falls sit inland above the town, and Fern Gully is the green tunnel of road on the way south. West along the coast at Falmouth, the Luminous Lagoon runs boats after dark. Check the operators’ own pages for November hours and admission prices.
The month changes the air around those places more than the places themselves. A river climb at 83.4°F is a different afternoon from the same climb at 86.2°F in October, and the difference shows at the top of the stairs. October also delivers the heaviest rain of the three months, 6.19 inches, draining through the same hills into early November. We found no river-flow series for the Dunn’s River watershed, so treat that as context rather than measurement.
On free admission, we could not verify a single free-entry day at any Ocho Rios attraction in November, so we name none. What costs nothing is dated anyway: sunset at 5:32 pm on the fifteenth is early enough to be watched from the sand before dinner rather than after it, and the bay walk at 6:14 am comes with 74.7°F air and an empty beach.
Ocho Rios in November: a two-day itinerary
Day one runs early. Swim at 6:30 am, when the air is near its 74.7°F low and the water is already warm. Breakfast by 8, at Dunn’s River Falls for opening, and off the rock before the heat of the day settles in. Lunch under shade, then a flat afternoon: the bay, the craft market, a boat if the sea is behaving. Be back on land by 5 and take the 5:32 pm sunset with a drink rather than a plan.
Day two goes inland while the morning is still cool, to the Blue Hole and Island Gully Falls, then back down through Fern Gully. With rain landing on 11.4 days, expect one morning in three to open gray. That is the day to drive west to Falmouth instead, because the Luminous Lagoon boats run after dark and a cloudy sky does the glow no harm. Rain rarely lasts: only 0.4 day a month reaches a full inch.
Ocho Rios in November vs October and December
| October | November | December | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Average high | 86.2°F | 83.4°F | 81.9°F |
| Average low | 76.2°F | 74.7°F | 73.2°F |
| Precipitation | 6.19 in | 4.44 in | 3.43 in |
| Days with 0.10 in or more | 16.2 | 11.4 | 8.2 |
| Sea surface (daily maxima) | 87.3°F | 85.1°F | 83.1°F |
| Hurricane season | Open | Open to Nov 30 | Closed |
Across the three months the air loses 4.3°F from October to December and the sea loses 4.2°F, both in near-straight lines. Rain moves faster: 6.19 inches, then 4.44, then 3.43, with wet days falling from 16.2 to 11.4 to 8.2. November sits closer to December on rain and closer to October on water, which is the whole reason it gets booked. All three columns come from the same ERA5 reanalysis and the same marine record, so the comparison is like for like.
Shift four weeks earlier and you gain 2.8°F of daytime warmth and 2.2°F of sea, at the cost of 1.75 more inches of rain, 4.8 more wet days and the tail of the season’s most active stretch. Shift four weeks later and you drop 3.2 wet days and get a storm calendar that has closed, but the water is down to 83.1°F and the holiday period arrives mid-month. Those are the terms, in both directions.
Is November a good time to visit Ocho Rios?
For swimmers, snorkelers and families, yes. An 85.1°F sea with 11.4 wet days is a better trade than October’s 87.3°F with 16.2, and the difference in air temperature, 2.8°F, is not something you notice at a beach bar. For anyone who needs a guaranteed storm-free window, no: the season runs to the last day of the month, and booking non-refundable inside it is a choice, not an oversight.
If the guarantee matters more than the water, December is the month to move to. It brings 3.43 inches across 8.2 wet days, a closed storm calendar, and highs of 81.9°F that still work for swimming at 83.1°F. What you give up is 2.0°F of sea and the quiet: the holiday travel period lands in the second half of the month, and our island-wide calendar spells out how it spreads.
No other month pairs water within 2.2°F of the annual warm peak with a third fewer wet days than October and a holiday calendar that has not started.
The last word
Book November for the water and treat the cancellation policy as part of the price, not a detail at checkout. One number to take with you: between October’s 87.3°F sea and December’s 83.1°F, the midpoint would be 85.2°F, and November comes in at 85.1°F, a tenth of a degree below dead center. That is the month in a single figure, half of October’s swimming season and half of December’s dry one, with a 5:32 pm sunset to plan the day around. Compare it against October in Ocho Rios before you pick.
