What are the best things to do in Verona?

The Arena Amphitheatre

The Arena Amphitheatre sits in Piazza Bra, 37121 Verona.

Piazza Bra is also home to the Museo Lapidario Maffeiano, at number 28, so you can fit a museum stop into the same visit.

Juliet’s House

Juliet’s House is reached from the Teatro Nuovo in Piazzetta Navona. The exit is at Via Cappello 23, so you walk through the house rather than doubling back.

Juliet’s tomb is a separate stop. It’s at via Luigi da Porto 5 and houses the Museo degli Affreschi ‘G.B. Cavalcaselle’. Visit it in the same outing if you want both Juliet sites.

Castelvecchio

The Museo di Castelvecchio is at corso Castelvecchio 2, 37121 Verona. Beside it, across the Ponte Scaligero, lies the Area Verde Arsenale, a green area for a break after the museum.

Castelvecchio also sits on the Urban Trekking Parco delle Mura route, so you can combine the museum with a walk along the Adige.

Piazza Erbe

Piazza Erbe stands on the area of the Roman forum and is the oldest square in Verona. A market sells souvenirs and clothing, and the north side is lined with bars and restaurants.

It’s a good place to stop between sights. Come when you’re ready for a coffee or a meal rather than as a destination on its own.

The Roman Theater and the Archaeological Museum

The Museo Archeologico al Teatro Romano is at Regaste Redentore 2.

The Giardino Giusti

The Giardino Giusti is a late-Renaissance garden with a parterre, a labyrinth and the remains of a small temple.

Skip it if you only have a few hours. It’s a quiet extra for a longer stay, best when you’re done with the main sights.

The Parco delle Mura and the city walls

The Parco delle Mura wall circuit runs about 5.6 miles (9 km). The Urban Trekking route is shorter: 2.5 miles (4 km) and easy, about 2 hours.

It starts at the IAT office in Piazza Bra and passes Castelvecchio, then follows the Adige. Wear comfortable shoes, since you’ll be on your feet for the full two hours.

When is the best time to visit Verona for sightseeing?

Winter is cold: January highs reach 45°F (7°C), lows hover near freezing, and you’ll want a warm coat for the museums and streets. Spring warms quickly, with April highs of 66°F (19°C) and nine rainy days, so bring a rain layer. May is warmer at 75°F (24°C) with about eight hours of sun a day, which suits long walks on the walls. By June highs reach 83°F (28°C), so plan outdoor sights for the cooler hours.

Day trips from Verona

A boat itinerary links Desenzano, Sirmione and Bardolino, and the lake also has a biking itinerary. Garda is the town that gives the whole lake its name. The Vittoriale degli Italiani, in Gardone Riviera on the lake’s shore, is reached by line LN005, which stops right in front of the entrance.

  • Lake Garda boat itinerary: Desenzano, Sirmione and Bardolino · by boat · for anyone who wants the lake from the water
  • Lake Garda by bike: among the lake’s most beautiful sights · by bike · for active travelers
  • Vittoriale degli Italiani, Gardone Riviera: by bus, line LN005 · no car needed
  • Valpolicella: the land of Amarone, Recioto and Valpolicella wines · for wine lovers

If you don’t have a car, the Vittoriale by bus or a boat day on the lake are the easiest picks. For a shorter outing, the city offers a half-day itinerary and walks that follow Juliet’s footsteps, explore Veronetta or pass among the city’s statues.

Things to do in Verona at night

Il Grande Teatro is staged at the Teatro Nuovo in Verona, the same theater you pass through to reach Juliet’s House. Check the program for dates.

In autumn, the Hostaria wine festival runs from October 16 to 18. The Bollito Fair is held at Isola della Scala, Pala Riso.

Things to do in Verona with kids

Kids tend to do best outdoors. The Urban Trekking Parco delle Mura is easy and about 2 hours, while the path along the walls of Cangrande is about 2 miles (3 km) and easy to medium. The Parco delle Colombare offers a panorama of Verona from above, and Piazza Erbe has a market with souvenirs and clothing.

The VeronaCard covers free travel on city buses and some attractions in Trentino, including the Mart and the Muse. It doesn’t include the Aerobus, and it’s valid for 1 year from purchase.
