Lake Garda is a lake of many towns, from Riva del Garda and Torbole in Garda Trentino to Garda and Torri del Benaco on the eastern shore and Limone sul Garda and Tremosine on the western side. It suits travelers who like to change scenery: a cliffside cycle path, a canyon road, village museums and, in autumn, a long run of local food festivals. Garda Trentino alone has over 500 verified accommodations.
The coastal road is the main link between towns. The LN027 bus line runs along the cliffside road from Salò to Riva del Garda. Driving into the center of Riva del Garda has its own rule: the limited traffic zone bans transit and parking. November brings highs of 55°F (13°C) and about eight and a half rainy days, so pack for damp weather.

Where is Lake Garda and what is it like?
Lake Garda is ringed by towns that each have their own character. Riva del Garda, Torbole and Nago sit in Garda Trentino. Garda, Torri del Benaco and Bardolino lie on the eastern shore. Limone sul Garda and Tremosine are on the western side, with Valvestino in the hills behind. Castelnuovo di Garda, with its holiday village directly on the lake, is another base. The LN027 bus line connects Salò with Riva del Garda along the coast.
The landscape is cliffs, canyon and open water. The Strada della Forra is a narrow driveway running inside a canyon carved by the Brasa brook. The Lake Garda cycle path hangs along the cliff above the lake, and the LN027 takes you to beaches loved by kitesurfers. Campione del Garda is a wind surfing spot.
Limone shows how the lake changed. After the Gardesana road was built (1929 to 1931), Limone became one of the most frequented tourist centers of Lake Garda in the second half of the twentieth century. Tourism is practically its only economic activity today. Saint Daniele Comboni was born there.
Where to go on Lake Garda
Limone sul Garda
Limone is a tourist town with a small set of museums and sights. It has a Tourist Museum in the former Municipal Office at Via Comboni 3, a Fishing Museum and the Limonaia del Castèl. Villa Boghi and the Centro Comboniano are also here.
Bicycles can be rented at Limone. That makes it a natural start for the cliffside cycle path, which begins at Reamol.
Garda
Garda is a town for a slow walk between historic buildings. Its list includes the Chiesa di S. Stefano, Palazzo dei Capitani, Palazzo Fregoso Boccali, Palazzo Carlotti and the Parco degli Albertini.
The Museo Territoriale del Lago di Garda is the place to learn about the lake itself. Canoe tours leave from Garda toward Punta San Vigilio, and rock climbing half days are offered nearby.
Torri del Benaco
Torri del Benaco has the Scaligero Museum and a guided tour of its historic center. It suits travelers who like a compact old town with a museum.
Book the guided tour ahead and plan the visit as a half day on the eastern shore, close to Garda.
Tremosine
Tremosine is for drivers and walkers who like the hills above the lake. The Strada della Forra runs through the canyon here. The area also has the Church of San Zenone in Prabione, the Sanctuary of Madonna di Montecastello and the St Michael Hermitage.
The road is a narrow driveway, so go slowly and choose daylight for the drive. Valvestino, nearby, has the Church of San Rocco.
Riva del Garda
Riva del Garda is the hub of Garda Trentino and the end of the LN027 line.
Driving in the center needs care. The limited traffic zone is divided into several areas, with eleven vehicle access points. Park outside it and walk in.
Bardolino
Bardolino is wine country on the eastern shore. A route between the lake and the wineries starts here, and the Grape and Wine Festival enlivens the center in the last days of the summer season.
The town suits travelers who want a day mixing lakeside walking with tastings.
What is there to do on Lake Garda?
Cycling the cliffside path
At Reamol begins the Lake Garda cycle path, suspended along the cliff above the lake.
Rent in Limone and ride the path from Reamol. Look at the weather first, since the path is exposed on the cliff.
The path suits confident cyclists and anyone who wants the lake view from above.
Water, wind and rock
Garda offers a canoeing tour to Punta San Vigilio, stand-up paddling at sunset and a half day of rock climbing. Bird watching on the lake is another option.
Most of these are guided or organized, so reserve in advance. The sunset paddle is the one to pick for a calm evening.
Autumn food festivals and olive mills
Garda Trentino runs a Month of Taste with 13 dates from September 25 to November 8, 2026. Upcoming events include Open Olive Mills in Alto Garda on November 7 and 8. A Walnut Festival in Cavrasto runs the same weekend.
Riva del Garda hosts From Taste to Taste in Piazza Garibaldi and Piazza Battisti on November 13 and 14, from 10:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. DiVin Ottobre runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until October 31. The Olio Viola mill offers a guided tour and tasting.
For a food trip, plan around these weekends. Travelers who want beach weather will find November a quieter month, with a high of 55°F (13°C).
Where to stay on Lake Garda
Garda Trentino, around Riva del Garda, has over 500 verified accommodations, a deep choice for a first stay. Castelnuovo di Garda has Gasparina Village, a holiday village directly on the lake. Limone, Garda and Torri del Benaco work as quieter bases for a stay built around walking and cycling.
Lodging types around the lake include hotels, residences, apartments, bed and breakfasts, rooms to let, campsites, tourist villages, agriturismi and hostels. In Garda Trentino, rooms can be booked online with no commissions.
When should you go to Lake Garda?
Summer is the warm window. July is the warmest month, with a high of 87°F (30°C), and August is close behind. May and June, at 75°F (24°C) and 83°F (28°C), are milder and fit the cycle path and water activities.
Autumn is the food season. September and October bring the festivals, and September’s high is 78°F (25°C). November is the wettest month at 3 inches (85 mm) of precipitation, and January is the coldest, with a high of 45°F (7°C).
Travelers who come for the markets and tastings should bring a rain layer, and those who want swimming weather should look at summer.
