November is cool and damp. In La Spezia, the southern end of the train line, afternoons reach 60°F (16°C) and nights fall to 48°F (9°C). A light coat is enough for the middle of the day. After dark you’ll want a warm layer.

Rain falls on 9 days of the month, and 6 inches (142 mm) comes down in total. Plan the outdoor sights, the trails and the walk between villages for the morning, and keep a museum or a long lunch for the rainy hours. The sun is down early, since daylight lasts 9 hours 43 minutes in mid-November.

December drops another 6°F in the afternoon, to 54°F (12°C), with nights at 41°F (5°C). The rain count in December is the same as November’s, so the shift mostly changes how cold you feel and how short the day is.

Where to go in Cinque Terre in November

Monterosso al Mare

Monterosso has the largest choice of rooms among the villages and a promenade lined with aperitivo bars and seafood restaurants. In a month of short days, that makes it an easy base for a first stay. It’s also where the Blue Trail begins on the way to Vernazza.

Vernazza

Vernazza is crowded by day, but the atmosphere changes in the evening when the day-trippers leave. With few hotels and mostly B&Bs and apartments, a night here is the way to see that. In November, with the sun setting early, the evening comes soon after the last afternoon walk.

Corniglia

Corniglia is the quietest village and the one with the fewest tourists. It sits on a cliff 328 feet (100 meters) above the sea. You reach it by a staircase of 377 to 382 steps or by shuttle bus. After rain, the shuttle is the sensible way up with bags.

Riomaggiore and Manarola

Riomaggiore is where the Via dell’Amore starts, and the walk ends in Manarola. Riomaggiore also has companies offering boat and kayak rentals and boat tours. The Park Authority’s headquarters is at Manarola station.

La Spezia

La Spezia has a proper Trenitalia station with lifts and luggage storage. That makes it an easy base for the rainy days of November. The CAMeC modern art center and the civic museums are here.

What to do in Cinque Terre in November

The Via dell’Amore from Riomaggiore to Manarola

The path is 0.6 mile (1 km) long, walked one way from Riomaggiore to Manarola. It was carved into the rock between 1926 and 1928. It’s short enough to fit between November showers.

Booking is required, and the visit is included in the Trekking Card. Access to the first stretch with a booked guided tour costs 5 euros.

The Blue Trail from Monterosso to Vernazza and Corniglia

The Blue Trail (SVA) links Monterosso, Vernazza and Corniglia, and the trails stay open all year. A Cinque Terre Card is needed here. The Trekking Card costs 10 euros for one day, and 15 euros on high-attendance days.

On busy dates, a one-way system applies between Monterosso and Vernazza. Start early to finish in daylight.

Podere Case Lovara on the Levanto to Monterosso trail

Podere Case Lovara is a FAI property on the trail between Levanto and Monterosso. Entry is free with the Trekking Card or the Treno Card. It makes a good stop on a walk that begins in Levanto, one train stop from Monterosso.

The card also covers the village buses. Check the sky before you set out, since the trail is outdoors for its whole length.

Museums in La Spezia on a rainy day

The same cards give reduced admission to the civic museums: Amedeo Lia, San Giorgio Castle Archaeological Museum, Museum of the Seal, Palazzina delle Arti, Ethnographic Museum and Diocesan Museum.

With rain on 9 days, keep one of these for a wet day. La Spezia is on the same train line as the villages.

Trains and boats between the villages

Express trains run every 20 minutes between the five villages, and the regional train is the recommended way to travel between them. A single ride costs from 2.50 to 3.80 euros depending on the route. Boats serve every village except Corniglia.

From November 2 to December 31, the one-day Treno Card for adults costs 17.30 euros. It covers unlimited second-class regional trains between Levanto and La Spezia, plus the village buses. If you’ll ride the train more than a few times in a day, it pays to compare it with single tickets.

Is Cinque Terre busy in November?

The park’s attendance calendar sets its prices by band. Band A, the lowest, covers March and the weekdays of May and October. Band B covers April, June, September and the weekdays of July and August. Band C is for national holidays and the weekends of July and August. In peak months, June through August, trains arrive every 20 minutes and each one empties a crowd into a tunnel.

A one-day Treno Card costs 22 to 35 euros under those bands. From November 2 it drops to 17.30 euros, a low-season price. The Cinque Terre has no large hotels, only B&Bs, affittacamere and apartments in historic buildings, almost always run by local families. These are small places, so reserve a room before you buy train tickets.

Each night of a stay carries a tourist tax. The Cinque Terre municipalities raised it from 2 to 3 euros per night starting in 2025, and Monterosso’s already stood at 2.50 euros.

What to pack for Cinque Terre in November

November asks for layers and for shoes that hold on wet stone. The list below follows the weather and the trails.

  • A warm layer for evenings, with nights at 48°F (9°C).
  • Shoes with a good grip for trails and for the 377 to 382 steps up to Corniglia.
  • A small day pack for a rain jacket and a water bottle on trails that run all day.
  • A few coins, since the toilets in the railway stations cost 1 euro for anyone without a card.

What to know before visiting Cinque Terre in November

The low-season Treno Card price starts on November 2. The Via dell’Amore requires booking. Trails between Monterosso, Vernazza and Corniglia need a Cinque Terre Card, while other trails are free.

Is November a good time to visit Cinque Terre?

Yes, for travelers who want to walk the trails and ride the trains in cool, mild weather, and who accept rain on about 9 days. It suits people who plan around daylight and keep a museum day in reserve.

Shifting to December brings afternoons down to 54°F (12°C), and daylight down to 8 hours 57 minutes in mid-month. November sits between the two, with a one-day Treno Card at its low-season price from November 2.

For hikers, the trails are open all year, and the Blue Trail needs only a card. For rainy hours, La Spezia has the CAMeC and the civic museums. For a quiet evening, Vernazza empties out after the day-trippers leave, and Corniglia stays the quietest of the five villages.
