Travelers who land at Rome Fiumicino can take an Italo train to Naples in 2 hours. Rome to Capri takes 4 hours 45 minutes by Italo with connections. Italo connects with SNAV ferries, and a single ticket purchase online covers the train and the boat.
How do you get from the airport to the ferry port for Capri?
From Naples airport, the Alibus goes to Piazza Garibaldi, then Calata di Massa, then the maritime station near Molo Beverello. The ticket costs €5, paid to the driver. A taxi from the airport to the port has a fixed fare of about €20. A shuttle bus also runs between the airport and Molo Beverello in both directions.
Naples has two ports for Capri. Molo Beverello handles the hydrofoils, and Calata di Massa handles the fast ships and ferries, so check which port your ticket names before choosing a stop. From Naples train station, a taxi to Molo Beverello has a fixed fare of around €12. The alternative is metro line 1 to Piazza Municipio, then a walk of about 330 feet (100 meters) to the port.
Which ferry goes to Capri, and how long does it take?
Hydrofoils and ferries to Capri leave from Naples and Sorrento. In summer there are also crossings from Positano, Amalfi, Salerno and Ischia. Caremar, Snav and NLG run the Naples routes, and Gescab operates some Snav departures.
Crossings from Naples take 50 minutes by hydrofoil, 60 by fast ship and 85 by ferry. From Sorrento’s Marina Piccola port, both hydrofoils and ferries leave for Capri, about one every half hour in summer, and the trip lasts 25 minutes. Hydrofoils from Positano, Amalfi and Salerno run only from April to the end of October. Seven ports around Naples are linked every day of the year.
The Caremar ferry from Capri to Naples starts at €14.00. Children aged 2 to 12 pay €17.00 one way on NLG from Naples. A landing contribution is added to the fare: €2.50 from November 1 to March 30 and €5.00 from April 1 to October 31, per person. Ferry or flight to Capri: which is better?
Capri is reached by sea from several ports, so the boat is the last step of every trip, and the choice that remains is which port to leave from.
- With lots of luggage → NLG charges €5.00 per piece, so count the bags before you pick a boat.
- With a car → cars cannot be landed for most of the year except residents’ cars, so leave it on the mainland.
- In summer → Sorrento has a boat about every half hour for a 25-minute crossing, and Positano, Amalfi and Salerno add hydrofoils from April to October.
How do you get around Capri once you arrive?
Boats from Naples, Sorrento and Ischia arrive at Marina Grande. The main tourist information office is there too, and the boats to the Faraglioni and the Blue Grotto leave from the same harbor. From Marina Grande you can take a bus to Capri town centre or to Anacapri. The funicular climbs in a few minutes to the square in Capri town.
Open-top taxis run from one locality of the island to another. With cars kept off the island most of the year, buses, the funicular and taxis cover the ground.
What documents do you need to board a flight to Italy?
