Best Time to Visit Capri: Weather by Month, Sea Temperature, Crowds and Summer Events

Capri is at its best from late May through June, when the island is warm enough for long walks and the sea is close to swimming temperature. September and early October are the second beach window, with the water still above 70°F (21°C).

Timing matters because July highs reach 89°F (32°C), while January highs stay near 57°F (14°C). The central hours of the day can coincide with greater crowds, so early mornings and late afternoons are easier.

When is the best time to visit Capri?

For most travelers, May and June are the answer. Highs climb from 76°F (24°C) in May to 84°F (29°C) in June, and rain falls on only about four days in May and about two in June. That is warm weather for a full day outdoors, before the heat of July.

The beach window starts in June. The sea averages 72°F (22°C) that month, while May is still near 66°F (19°C). July and August are the warmest water, at 77°F (25°C) and 79°F (26°C), and September holds at 76°F (24°C).

For sightseeing and walking, April through June works well. April highs reach 68°F (20°C), with fewer than six rainy days. Even in these months, the central hours of the day can coincide with greater crowds. Start early, and leave the harbor and the main squares for the evening.

The year runs from cool and damp winters to a hot, dry summer, with spring warming quickly.

January and February keep highs near 57°F (14°C), and rain falls on seven to nine days each month. By May the high is 76°F (24°C), and by July it reaches 89°F (32°C) with almost no rain.

When can you swim in Capri?

The sea passes 68°F (20°C) in June, at 72°F (22°C), and stays above it through October, at 71°F (22°C). May, at 66°F (19°C), and November, at 67°F (19°C), fall just short. From December on, it drops to 62°F (17°C) and below.

August and September are the safest bet for comfortable swimming, at 79°F (26°C) and 76°F (24°C).

When is Capri least crowded?

Going in May or June puts you between the cool season and the July heat. You get warm days and lighter rain, and the sea is warm enough by June.

Before June the sea is below 68°F (20°C), so swimming is cool, and the summer events program does not run.

July is hard for walkers, with highs of 89°F (32°C). The sea is at 77°F (25°C).
