February on the Amalfi Coast suits walkers and sightseers. Afternoons reach 59°F (15°C), enough for the Path of the Gods, the lemon terraces and the villas of Ravello, with a coat for the evening.
Much of the coast’s calendar sits outside the month. The Ravello Festival runs from June to September, the main lemon harvest from March to May, and the Christmas and New Year program in Amalfi wraps up in early January. February is a month of scenery and walking.

February is cool and mild at once. Amalfi reaches 59°F (15°C) in the afternoon and drops to 48°F (9°C) at night. Positano runs about a degree or two cooler, with 58°F (14°C) by day and 47°F (8°C) at night. A light coat is enough in the afternoon sun, and a warmer layer is needed after dark.
Rain falls on about 7 days in the month, so most days are dry. The sea sits at 58°F (14°C). Daylight lasts 10 hours 37 minutes by mid-month, so plan walks and viewpoints for the middle of the day and keep the late afternoon for a village square and dinner. On a wet morning, the Arsenale and the paper museum in Amalfi are good indoor choices.
January is about the same in the afternoon at 58°F (15°C), but it brings 9 rainy days and just 9 hours 32 minutes of daylight. March warms to 64°F (18°C), with 7 rainy days and nearly 12 hours of daylight. The sea stays near 58°F in both February and March. February gains an hour of light on January and is a few degrees cooler than March.
Where to go on the Amalfi Coast in February
Amalfi
The coast’s namesake town is a former maritime republic. In February its main sights are indoors or in short walking range: the Duomo, which dates from the 9th century, the Arsenale della Repubblica, and the Museo della Carta at the start of the road to the Valle delle Ferriere. Afternoons of 59°F (15°C) make the stroll between them pleasant.
Ravello
Ravello sits on a rocky spur at about 350 to 365 meters (roughly 1,150 to 1,200 feet) above the sea, in the center of the coast. It has no beach, which does not matter in February. The gardens of Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone, with its Terrace of Infinity, are the reason to come.
Positano
Positano is known for its colorful little houses and its domed, majolica-roofed churches. February afternoons reach 58°F (14°C) there. The Path of the Gods ends here, so the town makes a natural finish for a hike.
Atrani
Atrani is Italy’s smallest town, about 0.4 mile (700 meters) from Amalfi. A short walk from Amalfi gets you there, and it keeps the feel of a southern Italian fishing village.
Cetara
Cetara is a small fishing village at the foot of Monte Falerio. Fresh anchovies are at their best from spring to autumn, so February is a time for the colatura di alici, the anchovy sauce used mainly to dress spaghetti, and for a walk along the harbor.
What to do on the Amalfi Coast in February
The Path of the Gods from Agerola to Positano
The classic walk runs from Bomerano in Agerola, at about 2,030 feet (618 meters), to Nocelle and down to Positano. The walk takes between 3 and 4 hours, with a total elevation gain and loss of about 2,100 feet (638 meters). February’s 10 hours of daylight leave room if you start in the morning.
To reach the start, take the Travelmar ferry to Amalfi, then a shuttle bus to Bomerano. There is a drinking fountain at Nocelle and a spring at Grotta Biscotto. Other walkers on the path are mostly foreigners, so expect company.
The Lemon Path from Maiori to Minori
The Sentiero dei Limoni starts near Maiori and Minori. The walk from Maiori to Minori takes about 4 hours and is simple, a mix of town streets with stairs and natural trail.
Minori has the ruins of a Roman villa, the Villa Romana Marittima, a good stop to end the day. Wear shoes with grip for the stairs.
The Arsenale and the Paper Museum in Amalfi
The Arsenale della Repubblica is a medieval shipyard cut into the rock, the only one of its kind still standing. The Arsenal Experience offers multilingual guided tours of about 30 minutes, included in the entrance ticket. It is a good plan for a wet hour.
The Museo della Carta sits in one of the area’s old paper mills. A guided tour follows the making of the ancient Bambagina paper of Amalfi. Holders of a Travelmar ticket get a discount on admission.
The villas of Ravello
Villa Rufolo, built in the 13th century, has gardens that cross terraces, cloisters and panoramic areas. It stands at Piazza Duomo in Ravello. The Ravello Festival, held here, runs from June to September, so in February the gardens are for walking.
Villa Cimbrone costs ten euros to enter. Its Terrace of Infinity is a viewpoint over the coast. Choose a clear afternoon for the view.
The Emerald Grotto at Conca dei Marini
The Grotta dello Smeraldo is reached by lift or by small boat. Entry costs ten euros and includes the boat tour inside. It is a short outing from the road.
It is worth confirming that the boats are running on the day you plan to go. Pair it with the Fiordo di Furore nearby.
Is the Amalfi Coast busy in February?
The coast is crowded in summer: from June to August the SS163 becomes congested, and in July and August SITA buses travel packed, with ZTL restrictions active in Amalfi, Positano and Ravello. Amalfi draws visitors in every period of the year, especially the warm season. February is outside that crush, and also after the Christmas markets and the New Year program, which wrapped up in early January.
Where you sleep sets the price. Salerno is the cheapest base, with a regional railway station and ferry and bus links to Amalfi. Praiano is the quietest and most residential alternative. Sorrento is a practical base with a train to Naples, and no coastal village has a railway station.
Transport links add to the budget. Maiori to Sorrento costs 29.50 euros one way for adults and 59 euros return. Children from 2 to 12 pay 19 euros one way and 38 euros return. A skip-the-line ticket for the Pompeii excavations costs 22 euros, or 20 euros bought on site.
Can you swim on the Amalfi Coast in February?
The sea near Amalfi averages 58°F (14°C) in February, and near Positano the figure is the same. That is a monthly average, and it is cold for a swim. It is only a little cooler than January, at 59°F, and the same as March.
The small beach at the bottom of the Fiordo di Furore is open to swimmers. Marina Grande in Amalfi is very convenient and often crowded in peak season. For most February visitors, the water is a view to enjoy from a terrace.
What to pack for the Amalfi Coast in February
February asks for layers, a rain plan and shoes that grip on stone steps and trails.
- A warm layer for the evening: nights fall to 48°F (9°C) in Amalfi and 47°F (8°C) in Positano.
- A rain jacket or small umbrella: about 7 days of rain fall in the month.
- Sturdy walking shoes with grip for the Path of the Gods, which has about 2,100 feet (638 meters) of elevation gain and loss.
- Shoes that handle stairs: the walk from Nocelle down to Arienzo is 1,700 steps, and the Lemon Path has stairs too.
What to know before visiting the Amalfi Coast in February
The U.S. State Department rates Italy Level 2, Exercise increased caution, due to terrorism, in an advisory issued September 10, 2026. It recommends enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to get updates and alerts from the U.S. embassy or consulate. It also highly recommends buying travel insurance before you travel.
On the road, Amalfi’s historic center is a limited traffic zone. A new access control system started there on January 1, 2026, and the green zone allows access and parking only to residents with a permit. The SITA Sud Costiera lines that connect Amalfi with Positano, Sorrento, Maiori, Salerno, Agerola and Ravello are listed for summer 2026, so check the timetable for February before you plan a day by bus. Travelmar advises exploring the coast by sea to avoid long car queues and parking problems.
Is February a good time to visit the Amalfi Coast?
Yes, February is a good time for walkers and sightseers who want to see the coast away from the summer crowds. Afternoons of 59°F (15°C) work for the Path of the Gods, the Ravello villas and the Arsenale. It is not a swimming month.
If you want swimming, the sea is the same 58°F in February and March, so neither month will do it and summer is the answer. If you want fewer crowds, February sits well outside the June to August congestion on the SS163. If you want to walk, the lemon terraces and the Path of the Gods are open in February, and March adds more light.
