July and August afternoons reach 90°F (32°C), so a morning visit keeps the walk to the door cooler. In January the afternoon high is 52°F (11°C), and with 7 or 8 rainy days in the month an indoor museum is an easy choice.
How to get to the Accademia Gallery
The gallery sits in the heart of Florence, and walking is the best way to get around the historic center. Santa Maria Novella train station is 15 minutes away on foot. Bus lines D, 6, 11, 13, 14 and 17 stop close to the museum, and a bus ticket costs €1.70 and stays valid for 90 minutes after validation. A single taxi ride costs from €6 to €8.
The Uffizi is 1 to 1.6 miles (1.5 to 2.5 kilometers) away, by bus or on foot. The whole historic center is a limited traffic zone (ZTL), which makes driving difficult.
What to see at the Accademia Gallery
The Accademia houses Michelangelo’s David. Tactile maps are available in the Sala del Colosso on the ground floor and in Sala 1 on the first floor. Audio guides cost €6 at the bookshop.
A separate ticket at €32 gives access to Michelangelo’s Secret Room, and booking is mandatory.
