Four car rental companies have desks in the arrivals hall: Avis, Bílaleiga Akureyrar (Europcar), Budget and Hertz. Drivers can be charged with driving under the influence at a blood alcohol level as low as .05%. For F-roads and the highlands, check road conditions and use a 4-wheel-drive vehicle. Tell someone your plans, and bring a phone, fuel, water and food. The first five minutes in the drop-off lane are free, and P3 is the general long-term parking area and the most affordable.
