Where is Cinque Terre on the map?

The Cinque Terre are a National Park, a Marine Protected Area and a UNESCO site. The Park covers the municipalities of Riomaggiore, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare, plus parts of La Spezia and Levanto. Its boundaries aren’t fenced, and the territory can be visited freely at any time of year.

La Spezia is the gateway on the eastern side. Riomaggiore is the first village you meet when arriving from La Spezia, and the Park Authority has its offices at the Manarola station.

Which airport should you fly into for each part of Cinque Terre?

The nearest airports listed for the Cinque Terre are Milan, Genoa and Pisa.

To base yourself, pick the village by what you want to do. Stay in Riomaggiore if you want to arrive from La Spezia and be in the first village at once. Stay in Monterosso if you want the Levanto end of the line.

What are the main towns in Cinque Terre?

Monterosso al Mare

Monterosso al Mare is the westernmost of the five villages, and the Blue Trail starts here toward Vernazza and Corniglia. Both the train and the ferry stop here, and the trail toward Levanto passes Podere Case Lovara, a FAI property. It works as a base for the Levanto side of the coast.

Vernazza

Vernazza is the second village from the west, between Monterosso and Corniglia. It has a train station and a ferry stop, and the Blue Trail runs from here both ways, to Monterosso and to Corniglia. It suits a stay in the middle of the coast with both options open.

Corniglia

The train stops here, while the ferry stops listed are the other four villages.

Manarola

Manarola is the fourth village from the west and the seat of the Park Authority. Trains and ferries both stop here.

Riomaggiore

Riomaggiore is the eastern end of the coast and the first village reached from La Spezia. Train and ferry both stop here, and the Via dell’Amore starts here toward Manarola.

How far is Vernazza from the rest of Cinque Terre?

The five villages sit along 11 miles (18 km) of coast, in a line from Monterosso to Riomaggiore. Paths and rails follow the cliffs and run longer than the straight line, and the full trail network passes 75 miles (120 km).

A regional train ticket for the Cinque Terre is valid for 75 minutes for one direct trip. The Treno Card adds unlimited second-class regional trains on the La Spezia, Cinque Terre and Levanto line, and use of the bus inside the villages.

2026 prices:

  • Band A, one way: €5.00
  • Band B, one way: €8.00
  • Band C, one way: €10.00

Line 02 ferry connects the Gulf of La Spezia, the Cinque Terre villages and Levanto, and a daily ticket allows unlimited boarding and disembarking at all its stops. The service is seasonal and resumes on March 1.

Where are the main sights and beaches in Cinque Terre?

The Via dell’Amore runs from Riomaggiore to Manarola, at the eastern end, and needs a booking. The Blue Trail covers Monterosso, Vernazza and Corniglia in the west and center.

The coast has cliffs dropping to the sea with bays and small beaches, and dry stone walls mark the vine terraces above. The beaches aren’t named individually here, so pick them by village once you’re there.

The Cinque Terre Trekking Card covers the Via dell’Amore, the Blue Trail sections, Podere Case Lovara and CAMeC, which makes it a fit for a walking day. The Treno MS Card adds second-class regional trains between Levanto and La Spezia Migliarina.
