On the Amalfi Coast, SITA Sud buses and Travelmar ferries link the towns, and between them they reach Amalfi, Atrani, Praiano, Positano, Maiori, Minori and Cetara. Driving is the harder choice. Amalfi’s historic center is a limited traffic zone, and rural roads in Italy are generally narrow and often have no guardrails.

Renting a car on the Amalfi Coast: what to know
Cars face limits in the towns. Amalfi’s historic center is a limited traffic zone, and a new access control system for it started on January 1, 2026. The old permits were revoked by December 31, 2025.
The State Department says seat belt use is mandatory in Italy, and outside cities you must always use headlights. It also warns that authorities fine drivers without the proper permits in historic downtown areas. Cameras photograph license plates, and the fines are sent to the driver’s home in the United States.
How much is a taxi on the Amalfi Coast?
Taxi fares and routes are not given in the available facts, so check the price with the driver before you set off. Between Positano and Amalfi, the ferry costs €13.00 one way for adults. In Amalfi’s historic center, vehicles face the zone restrictions described above.
Can you get around the Amalfi Coast by boat?
Travelmar ferries leave from the tourist ports of Positano, Praiano, Amalfi, Atrani, Minori, Maiori, Cetara, Vietri sul Mare and Salerno. Ferries connect Positano, Amalfi and Salerno in season. The Positano to Amalfi crossing costs €13.00 one way for adults.
Tickets are sold at the company’s ticket offices near the boarding points in each town. Combined ferry and Salerno Airlink bus tickets, round trip between the coast and Salerno airport, can be bought through Travelmar sales channels. You can choose one combined ticket or separate tickets for each service.
What are the driving rules in Italy?
Rural roads are generally narrow and often have no guardrails and inconsistent speed limits. Drivers often pass on superhighways (autostrada) at high speeds. If authorities stop you driving a car registered abroad, you may have to pay the ticket immediately. Be prepared to pay in cash in local currency.
