What are the opening hours of Pitti Palace?

Last entry is at 5:30 p.m., and the ticket office closes one hour before the museum closes. The palace is open Tuesday to Sunday from 8:15 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. It is closed on Mondays, on January 1 and on December 25.

Visits to the mezzanine floor of the Treasury of the Grand Dukes are suspended until further notice.

When is the best time to visit Pitti Palace?

The palace opens at 8:15 a.m., and that is the best moment to arrive. It gives the most hours inside before last entry at 5:30 p.m. and before the 6:30 p.m. closing.

The palace holds five museums, so a late-afternoon arrival leaves little time for more than one or two of them. Monday is a closed day, so plan Florence days around that. A combined ticket with Boboli suits a morning in the palace and an afternoon in the gardens.

How to get to Pitti Palace

Pitti Palace is at Piazza Pitti 1, and the entrance is from Pitti Square. The approach has a 20% slope. Walking is the easiest way to get around Florence, and the historic center is largely pedestrian-friendly.

For longer hops, Autolinee Toscane runs the buses in Florence and across Tuscany. A ticket costs 1.70 euros and is valid for 90 minutes from validation. Drivers should know that the whole historic center is a limited traffic zone (ZTL) with five sectors. In sectors A, B and O it is active Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

What to see at Pitti Palace

The palace is divided into five museums. The ground floor holds the Treasury of the Grand Dukes and the Museum of Russian Icons. On the first floor are the Palatine Gallery and the Imperial and Royal Apartments. The second floor has the Gallery of Modern Art and the Museum of Costume and Fashion.

One ticket covers all the collections. The Royal Apartments need a reservation, so book them with the ticket. Lifts reach the museums on the first and second floors, which spares the stairs.

The rest of the Treasury is on the ground floor. The Boboli Gardens lie directly behind the palace and continue the visit.

Is Pitti Palace wheelchair accessible?

A WC for people with reduced mobility is in the courtyard. The entrance from Pitti Square has a 20% slope.

What else to see near Pitti Palace

The Boboli Gardens are directly behind the palace, and the combined ticket covers both. It combines three former properties: a baroque staircase leading to the Belvedere, an English wood and an agricultural part. Villa Bardini, at the top, is the most panoramic point and often hosts important exhibitions. The wisteria pergola is worth seeing in flower.

Piazza del Duomo gathers the Cathedral, Brunelleschi’s Dome, Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Baptistery, the Crypt of Santa Reparata and the Opera del Duomo Museum. The Uffizi Gallery occupies a large building designed by Giorgio Vasari and built between 1560 and 1580. Palazzo Vecchio, also called Palazzo della Signoria, is another stop in the city.
